Is there anything Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes can’t do with the ball? From deep throws to shovel passes and no looks, Mahomes seems to be able to make any and every play on the football field.

Even with only five full seasons as a starter in NFL, Mahomes has produced enough spectacular plays to make it hard for a casual fan to pick their favorite one. For Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid, on the other hand, the answer is quite obvious.

Reid recently made an appearance on Pro Football Talk and was asked to pick out his favorite play by Mahomes. The two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach didn’t think much before picking out a left-handed throw from the Week 4 game against the Denver Broncos in the 2018 season.

Mahomes was making just his fifth start as a pro and faced 3rd&5 with the game on the line and the clock winding down. He lost his protection moments after the ball was snapped and was scrambling to make a play with Denver’s pass rushers breathing down his neck.

As the pressure increased and he was about to be sacked by Von Miller, Mahomes managed to get the ball to wideout Tyreek Hill at the last moment with his non-throwing left hand. The drive was kept alive, and the Chiefs would go on to win the game 27-23.

“I think probably the left-handed throw,” Reid told hosts Mike Florio and Chris Simms. “I mean, it’s one thing to do it and mess around with it in practice. It’s another thing (to) make it a legitimate throw. I mean, with the game on the line.”

Just six years into his NFL career, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is already a two-time NFL MVP. Mahomes won his second MVP award at the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday, receiving 48 out of 50 possible first-place votes.

Mahomes finished with 490 points, edging out rivals like Philadelphia Eagles’ signal-caller Jalen Hurts and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Hurts finished second in the voting with 193 points, while Allen came in second with 151 votes.

Making an appearance on NFL Honors via video, Mahomes thanked his family, the Chiefs organization, and the fans for supporting him on his journey.

“I would never be standing here today without you all,” Mahomes said. “Every day, giving everything we have together to go for the ultimate goal: the Super Bowl. Let’s continue to go for that dream this weekend.”

With the MVP award already locked in, Mahomes will now focus on ending his season on an even bigger note. His Chiefs are facing the Eagles in the Super Bowl, and the 27-year-old player is hoping to pair up his two MVP trophies with two Super Bowl rings. He already won one championship in 2019.

Patrick Mahomes is just the 10th player in the history of the NFL to win the MVP award two times. The only two players that got two MVPs in a shorter amount of time than Mahomes are Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown and Hall of Fame QB Kurt Warner.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Friday that quarterback Patrick Mahomes will start in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Mahomes suffered a high right ankle sprain during the Chiefs’ divisional-round playoff win over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Saturday. Although he sat out a series, the quarterback returned to the field to finish the game.

“He’s moving around [well],” Reid said. “He can go out and play.” Mahomes was able to participate in all three practice sessions with the team this week, thereby proving to be recovering well from his injury.

Although Mahomes’ mobility after the injury was limited, he and the team were able to alter their playing style to accommodate him and come away with the win.

Reid is confident that the Chiefs are prepared to use a variety of tactics to ensure that they are able to overcome any shortfalls resulting from Mahomes’ injury.

“We have enough in the game plan where you can kind of pick and choose where you want to go with it,” Reid confirmed.  “You have a variety of things that you can go to. Obviously, you don’t use all the plays in the game plan, but they’re available and so if you have to go a certain direction, you can go that direction with the calls.”

Despite turning 45 in August, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady is still playing at a high level. He moved the longevity limits for the position and inspired other signal-callers to start thinking about prolonging their careers.

One of the quarterbacks who might follow Brady’s path is the Kansas City Chiefs’ signal caller Patrick Mahomes.

“I want to play as long as I can play, and I can still have a chance to help the team get better,” Mahomes said recently when asked whether he would like to play until 45 like Brady. “Obviously, it’s hard to play until you’re 45 years old, and I don’t want to be out there just hanging on. You see what Tom is—he’s still playing at a very high level. I think that’s why it’s hard for him to kind of give it up—when you’re playing at a high level, you don’t want to leave it.”

Mahomes and Brady, who have an 18-year age difference, will meet on the field this Sunday when the Chiefs face the Bucs. It will be the sixth time these two meet and a chance for Mahomes to pull level with the greatest of all time.

Brady currently holds the head-to-head advantage, beating Mahomes three times in five games. This included the 31-9 win in Super Bowl LV, which gave Brady his seventh Super Bowl ring.

Kansas City Chiefs will be Patrick Mahomes’ team for the next decade. Chiefs announced on Monday that Mahomes inked a massive 10-year extension that will keep him with the franchise through the 2031 season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the extension has a base value of $450 million but could end up bringing Mahomes up to $503 million over the course of 10 years. Also, the 24-year-old signal-caller will get $150 million in guarantees and a no-trade clause.

Mahomes has two more years on his rookie deal that pays him $2.8 million in 2020 and $24.8 million next year.

“This is a significant moment for our franchise and for the Chiefs Kingdom,” said Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt in a statement, while general manager Brett Veach added that “getting this deal done has been a priority” for the franchise.

In just two years as a starting quarterback, Mahomes managed to win an MVP award and then lead the Chiefs to their second Super Bowl.

“I’ve had the privilege of coaching a lot of incredible athletes and special people in my career, and Patrick is without question on that list of players,” said Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid. “He makes us all better as an organization and we are blessed he’s going to be our quarterback for years to come.”

After the news was made official, Mahomes acknowledged the deal on social media, writing: “Here to stay” on Twitter.

Patrick Mahomes was drafted 10th overall by the Chiefs in 2017 but had to wait until 2018 to be named the team’s starting quarterback. In his first season under center, Mahomes immediately showed that he’s a special talent, throwing for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns en route to an MVP award.

Last season, Mahomes struggled with injuries but managed to make up for it in the playoffs. He led the Chiefs to a 10-points comeback in Super Bowl and became the youngest Super Bowl MVP in the history of the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs and their head coach, Andy Reid, can finally smile. 50 years after the team had won its first Super Bowl, the Chiefs are champions once again, winning Super Bowl LIV in epic fashion at Hard Rock Stadium.

Kansas City, led by 24-year-old Patrick Mahomes, overcame a 10-point deficit to stun the San Francisco 49ers 31-20, making the Chiefs the first team in NFL history to win three games after trailing by 10 or more points in a single postseason.

Mahomes is now a Super Bowl MVP. He joins Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to hoist a Lombardi Trophy before their 25th birthday. “We kept believing,” Mahomes said. “That’s what we did all postseason. I felt like if we were down by 10, we weren’t playing our best football. The guys really stepped up. They believed in me. I was making a lot of mistakes out there early. We found a way to win it in the end.”

It was a huge win for Andy Reid as well, who coached 365 games without a Super Bowl victory!

“The guys were jumping on top of me, I got an ice bath and everything,” Reid said of the celebration that followed the game-clinching touchdown run by Damien Williams, putting Kansas City up by 11. “I didn’t have a lot of time to reflect on anything, other than try to keep guys off the field. We still had a minute and some left to go, so anything can happen. It was awesome. Just to be able to celebrate with guys that worked so hard just to get you to this spot. To get themselves and the team to this spot.”

The National Football League held its annual NFL Honors Show on Saturday night in Atlanta, and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went home the big winner.

The 23-year-old was named NFL MVP in only his second professional season. Mahomes dominated the league all season long and took home awards as the league’s most valuable player.

Mahomes is the youngest player to win the award since the Miami Dolphins’ Dan Marino won back in 1984.

The 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft threw for an impressive total of 5,097 yards with a 66.0% completion rate for Kansas City this season.

He also threw for 50 touchdown passes, versus only 12 interceptions. This combination of 5,000 passing yards and 50 touchdown passes had only been done once before by Peyton Manning before Mahomes reached the mark this season.

Patrick Mahomes garnered 41 of the total 50 votes for the award. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees received the other 9 votes.

The NFL MVP award is voted on by 50 members of the NFL media annually.

Mahomes will look to continue to lead the Chiefs to new heights next season, as he has undoubtedly established himself of one of the league’s top stars.

Kansas City Chiefs have bounced back from last week’s loss to the New England Patriots, and have continued with their usual routine of scoring at will in Sunday night’s 45-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes looked like an MVP candidate once again, throwing for 358 yards and four touchdown passes, while breaking some NFL records in the process.

After this game, Mahomes got to 22 TD passes in the first eight games of his NFL career, which means he broke the record previously owned by legendary Rams’ QB Kurt Warner who had 21 TD passes during the same stretch.

“You think you’re going to have success, but I didn’t expect this much,” – Mahomes told reporters after the game. “But at the same time, I knew the weapons we had, and I knew if I just ran [the offense] and did what Coach [Andy] Reid wanted me to do that there was a chance we could be really, really good.”

If he continues to play like this, Patrick Mahomes could soon have some more records under his belts. The 23-year-old needs nine more TD passes to break the franchise record for most in a single season and has nine games to do it. The current record holder is Len Dawson who threw 30 touchdowns in 1964 regular season.

Since taking the starting QB position from Alex Smith in Week 17 of 2017 season, Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 7-1 record. In the first seven games of the 2018 season, Mahomes completed 64.9 percent of his passes and threw for 2,223 yards, 22 touchdowns, and five interceptions.
