]]>George still hasn’t made his debut for the Clippers, recovering from offseason shoulder surgeries, but it seems like that moment is getting closer.
According to The Athletic‘s Sam Amick, George is scheduled to have his season debut next week. The 29-year-old All-Star will most likely play one of Clippers’ back-to-back games which include traveling to Houston Rockets and hosting New Orleans Clippers.
Paul George joined the Clippers in the offseason in a blockbuster trade from Oklahoma City Thunder, forming one of the league’s best duos with Kawhi Leonard. George is coming off an All-NBA season with OKC in which he had career highs across the board, averaging 28.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
George struggled with shoulder issues towards the end of the last season and decided to undergo procedures on both left and right shoulders in the offseason. The initial prognosis was that he will be out until November, so his return next week would mean the recovery went as expected.
In George’s absence, Leonard has been leading the Clippers, averaging 29.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.

]]>“It was 50-50 on deciding whether I wanted to come back home or if it was smarter to be in the situation I am in now,” – George told The Undefeated. “But it wasn’t overstated. I wanted to play in L.A. That is where I wanted to go. Had that trade never went down, had I played one more year in Indy, I would have been in a Lakers uniform.“
In the summer of 2017, Paul George informed Indiana Pacers that he won’t resign with the team when his contract expires in 2018 and that his preferred destination are Los Angeles Lakers. But since Lakers didn’t want to give up assets to acquire George via trade, knowing they can get him for free in a year, Pacers instead traded the player to the Thunder in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis.
Arriving in Oklahoma City, George fell in love with the city and the organization and eventually decided not to follow his dream of playing in Lakers uniform.
“Going toward the summer and going toward free agency, I kind of had my mind made up talking with the team, talking with Russ and talking with the front office,” – he explained. “I kind of felt good where we were at. Last [season], I didn’t get a chance to start with this team fresh. I got traded late. So, I picked up things late with the team. I wanted to get to it right away this time and start creating early.”
It looks like Paul George did get it right this time, since he opened the 2018-19 season with an impressive performance in a 100-108 loss against the Golden State Warriors, ending the game with 27 points, two rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

]]>George informed the OKC that he will decline his player option for 2018-19, and become an unrestricted free agent. According to ESPN, Philadelphia 76ers are ready to make their pitch to the 28-year-old in case they miss out on James.
Basketball-wise, Paul George to 76ers would make sense. He wouldn’t need the ball in his hand, giving Simmons room to operate, and would probably be the team’s first scoring option. Also, 76ers are a great defensive team and George would only make them better.
Still, the problem for Philadelphia will be the fact that Paul George is a highly sought-after player this summer. Besides Thunder, who are determined to keep him in Oklahoma, it looks like Houston Rockets are also trying to figure a way to pair him with newly crowned MVP James Harden and Chris Paul. There is also George’s publicly stated wish that he wants to play in his hometown for Los Angeles Lakers.
In the past season, Paul George averaged 21.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.
