]]>Embiid suffered the injury during the 76ers’ 112-109 loss to the Timberwolves on Saturday when teammate Georges Niang fell on top of him during the fourth quarter, colliding into Embiid’s leg and causing him to collapse in pain.
Although Embiid continued the game, he spent a long time on the ground in pain before managing to rise to his feet. So much so, that 76ers coach Doc Rivers walked across the court to see how Embiid was doing.
“Honestly, whenever a big guy goes, my eyes go to his knees first,” Rivers stated. “When I saw him grabbing his foot, I was already a little relieved, because I thought maybe his ankle. But you just don’t know. Everybody is going down right now around here, so if somebody goes down, you get really scared.”
In addition to Embiid, the 76ers are still without James Harden, who is still recovering from a foot injury that has kept him sidelined throughout November. The 76ers injury list seems to be continually growing, with Tyrese Maxey also out with a left foot sprain that he suffered during Friday’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

]]>Harden suffered the strain during the 76ers’ 121-111 loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night and underwent a medical assessment on Thursday when the extent of the injury was determined.
A 10-time NBA All-Star, Harden’s absence will be felt by the 76ers as they go into Friday’s home game against the New York Knicks. Harden has produced a strong performance so far this season, averaging 22 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists in nine games.
Filling the void left behind by Harden is third-year guard Tyrese Maxey, who has emerged as a rising star by racking up a career-high scoring average of 24.2 points per game this season, which includes shooting 51% from the field and 46.8% from three-pointers attempts.
Currently, Philadelphia sits in eighth place on the Eastern Conference standings, with a record of 4-5. Following the Knicks game, the 76ers are set to face the Phoenix Suns, the Atlanta Hawks, the Utah Jazz, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Minnesota Timberwolves while Harden remains sidelined.

]]>The 19-year-old rookie, coming out of Texas Tech, suffered the injury during the 76ers camp in Las Vegas. The team didn’t share a timeline for Smith’s return, but he is expected to miss the start of the season if his foot is in fact broken.
Before Zhaire Smith, there were plenty of Philadelphia 76ers’ rookies who failed to see much of NBA action in their first year. Center Joel Embiid, drafted in 2014, missed two full seasons with an injury before being ready to play. Guard/forward Ben Simmons, who was selected first overall in 2016, also lost an entire NBA season. Finally, the 76ers took guard Markelle Fultz No.1 overall in 2017, but he also didn’t play much in his rookie year due to a shoulder injury. We frankly hope that Smith will have a better introduction to the NBA.
In his lone year at Texas Tech, Zhaire Smith played 37 games and averaged 11.3 points, 1.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting .450 percent from threes. He was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 16th overall pick in 2018 NBA Draft and traded on the draft night to 76ers along with the Miami Heat’s 2021 first round pick for Mikal Bridges.
