The Philadelphia 76ers will consider it a big success if their star center, Joel Embiid, manages to return from his knee injury by the time playoffs begin. However, Embiid has an even more ambitious plan.

Speaking with reporters earlier this week, Embiid said that he hopes he will be back on the court before the regular season wraps up.

“Obviously everything has to go right, as far as getting healthy and being as close as I’m supposed to be. But yeah, that’s the plan,” Embiid said.

Embiid later added that his decision whether to play or sit out the regular season won’t be affected by the 76ers’ position in the standings.

“Any chances that I get, I wanna be on the floor. So it doesn’t matter where we are [in the standings]. I just want to play as much as I can and try to help us,” he added.

Embiid averaged 35.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game this season before suffering a knee injury in late January in a game against the Golden State Warriors. He was diagnosed with a lateral meniscus tear and was forced to undergo surgery.

Philly has been in a free fall ever since Embiid got hurt and has lost six out of their last 10 games. They are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 34-25 record, being just one game ahead of the eighth-seeded Indiana Pacers.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid will reportedly have surgery to repair a meniscus injury on his left knee. The surgery is expected to cause Embiid to miss significant time and possibly be out for the season.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers expect to have a clearer idea of Embiid’s timeline once the surgery takes place. However, the team hopes that the reigning NBA MVP could recover in time to return to court before the 2023-24 campaign wraps up.

Embiid suffered the injury in last week’s 119-105 loss to the Golden State Warriors when Warriors’ forward Jonathan Kuminga fell on his knee during a chase for a loose ball. Embiid, who dealt with knee soreness at various points this season, underwent an MRI test after the game, and the results showed a torn meniscus.

The development represents a huge blow to both the 76ers and Embiid. Philly hoped that it could finally make a deep playoff run under new head coach Nick Nurse but will now have to figure out a way to remain competitive in a loaded East.

Embiid, on the other hand, sees his promising campaign to repeat as NBA MVP come to an end. The 29-year-old player was arguably playing his best season, averaging a career-high 35.3 points and 5.7 assists to go with 11.3 rebounds per game.

Reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid continues to enter his name in the Philadelphia 76ers’ history books. Embiid scored 70 points in Monday night’s 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs and set a new franchise record.

The 76ers’ single-game points record was previously held by late Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain for more than 56 years. Chamberlain scored 68 points in 143-123 win over the Chicago Bulls in December 1967.

Embiid finished the night with 70 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists. According to ESPN, no player has ever had this type of statline in the history of the league.

“Obviously, Wilt accomplished … everything [in] the history of this league, and basketball in general,” Embiid said after the game. “So to be in the same conversation, that’s pretty cool.”

“It was just a great night,” he added. “I had it going. I mentioned a few times, a lot of teammates are extremely unselfish and they just kept giving me the ball, and I just finished it.”

Joel Embiid is once again one of the favorites for the NBA MVP award. Embiid is currently averaging league-leading 36.1 points per game while adding 11.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.2 steals.

Thanks to Embiid, the 76ers are currently third in Eastern Conference with 29-13 record and 4.0 games behind the leaders, Boston Celtics.

James Harden might want to leave the Philadelphia 76ers, but it appears he won’t go to extreme lengths in order to get what he wants. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Harden is expected to participate in the 76ers’ training camp ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season.

Harden hasn’t been there for the opening of the camp but is on his way to rejoin the team, which is currently practicing at the campus of Colorado State University Tuesday.

When asked about Harden after Tuesday’s practice, the 76ers’ new head coach Nick Nurse didn’t want to go into details.

“I do know that he wasn’t here today,” Nurse said. “If he’s here tomorrow, like we’ve said on everything, we will get ready to make some adjustments on everything.”

After the 76ers didn’t offer him a satisfying contract extension this offseason, James Harden picked up his player option for the 2023-24 season and asked the front office to trade him. While Philly engaged in trade talks with several teams since then, nothing materialized.

Harden made it clear to the 76ers that the Los Angeles Clippers are his preferred destination. The Los Angeles team is also interested in acquiring the former NBA MVP, but their offers so far have been described as “underwhelming.”

Harden played 58 games with Philly last season, averaging 21.0 points and 6.1 rebounds while leading the league with 10.7 assists.

The Philadelphia 76ers and veteran shooting guard Danny Green have staged a reunion for the 2023-24 NBA season. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Green will sign a one-year deal with the 76ers.

Green is expected to play an important role in the 76ers’ quest to embark on a deep playoff run this upcoming season. He has been known as a great locker room presence and has familiarity with Philly’s new head coach Nick Nurse, as the two won an NBA title together with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

Green joined the 76ers for the first time ahead of 2020–21 season. He spent two years in Philadelphia, averaging 7.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 131 games. His first stint with the franchise ended after he tore his ACL in the 2022 Eastern Conference semifinals against the Miami Heat and was subsequently traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 36-year-old split the last season between the Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He suited up for a total of 11 games, averaging 5.5 points.

Green became notable for his postseason success throughout his NBA career. He played at least one game in every playoffs since 2011, being only one of three players alongside James Harden and Chris Paul to do that. The North Babylon native has three NBA titles on his resume, winning rings with the San Antonio Spurs, the Raptors, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

After winning his first career NBA Most Valuable Player award in 2022-23, Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid is focused on his next goal: winning an NBA championship. And as it turns out, he is willing to do whatever it takes to do it, even if that means leaving Philadelphia and joining another team.

During a recent appearance during Los Angeles’ Uninterrupted Sports Film Festival, Embiid spoke about his commitment to get an NBA title on his resume.

“I just wanna win a championship, whatever it takes,” Embiid said. “I don’t know where that’s gonna be, whether that’s in Philly or anywhere else. I just wanna have a chance to accomplish — I wanna see what it feels like to win that first one, and then you can think about the next one.”

Since entering the league as the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Embiid has accomplished almost everything there is to accomplish from the individual standpoint. However, he hasn’t come even close to winning an NBA title with the 76ers.

During Embiid’s time with the franchise, the 76ers are yet to reach the conference finals. They made the playoffs in each of the past six seasons but lost five times in the second round, alongside a first-round exit in 2019–20.

It remains to be seen whether a recent coaching change will move the needle for the 76ers. The franchise parted ways with Doc Rivers in May and later hired Nick Nurse as his replacement. Nurse has an NBA championship on his resume, having won it with the Toronto Raptors in 2018–19.

Star guard James Harden reportedly picked up his $35.6 million option for the 2023-24 season with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, Harden didn’t do it to continue playing in Philly.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Harden opted into his 76ers contract with the intention to get traded. His representatives and the 76ers’ front office are now expected to work on a trade that would get the former MVP in his preferred destination and allow Philly to get some assets in return.

Harden took a pay cut last summer in order to allow Philly more flexibility in building a contending team around him and reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid. After the 76ers flamed out in the playoffs again, Harden was expected to opt out of the deal and get a more lucrative contract.

The expectations were that the 76ers would be the team that gives him that kind of deal, but sources close say that the franchise didn’t show any urgency in making that happen. They were reportedly willing to wait it out and see what the market was, which rubbed the 33-year-old the wrong way.

The reason why Harden opted into his contract instead just hitting free agency is that none of his preferred teams has the cap space to sign him outright. He has more options as a trade asset, with teams like Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers being rumored to have interest in him.

Harden joined the 76ers midway through the 2021-22 NBA campaign in a trade that sent Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets. He played 58 games last season, averaging 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists.

The Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum put up a spectacular performance in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers to lead his team to a 88-112 win. Tatum finished the game with 51 points and helped the Celtics to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics are back in the conference finals for the third time in four seasons. There, they will face the Miami Heat, who previously beat the New York Knicks in six games in the other East semifinals matchup.

Tatum previously struggled in must-win Game 6, shooting 5-of-21, but had his teammates step up to extend the series against the 76ers. On Sunday night, however, it was Tatum who took charge, with his 51 points being the most in Game 7 in NBA Playoffs history. He also added 13 rebounds and five assists without committing a single turnover.

“I was really excited just for the moment, to be able to come out and play today,” Tatum said after the game. “It definitely was on my mind that I had played as bad as it could get for 42, 43 minutes. We have a saying, ‘It’s only up from here.'”

The Boston Celtics also had Jaylen Brown score 25 points, and Malcolm Brogdon add 12 points off the bench. No other Celtics player was in double digits.

The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, saw their star players struggle to make an impact. Joel Embiid, who was named NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season, finished the night with 15 points and eight rebounds. His fellow All-Star James Harden managed just nine points and shot the ball 3-out-of-11.

The Celtics play their next game on Wednesday night, welcoming the Heat in their TD Garden.

The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t allow any surprises in the opening game of their first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets. The 76ers easily dispatched the Nets to cruise to a 121-101 win and confirmed they are a serious candidate to reach the NBA Finals.

The 76ers outscored the Nets in each of the four quarters, being led by their All-Star duo James Harden and Joel Embiid. Harden, playing against his old team, scored 23 points and dished 13 assists, while Embiid added 26 points. Forward Tobias Harris also did his part with 21 points on 9-14 shooting.

The Nets’ game plan focused on limiting Emiid, the favorite for this year’s NBA MVP award, and challenging other Philly players to beat them. But it turned out the 76ers were ready for this.

“We worked on it all week,” said 76ers’ head coach Doc Rivers after the game. “I give Joel credit, because I thought especially early he was patient and we sold that to him. You are going to wind up with whatever amount of points no matter what happens. And that happened.”

Brooklyn saw the biggest contribution for Mikal Bridges, who scored game-high 30 points. Bridges was actually drafted by the 76ers out of Villanova in 2018 but ended up being traded to the Phoenix Suns on draft night.

The 76ers and the Nets will square off again on Monday night in Game 2 at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid failed to extend his underrated winning streak against the Chicago Bulls. While Embiid put together another big performance with 37 points and 16 rebounds versus the Bulls on Monday night, it was still not enough for the 76ers to avoid a 109-105 double-overtime loss.

Embiid entered the game having never lost to the Bulls in his NBA career. He faced the famed franchise 12 times before and got a win each time. However, his supporting cast had an off-night, with fellow superstar James Harden shooting 2-14 and managing only five points. Embiid, who has now scored 30+ points in 10 straight games, fouled out in the second overtime.

The Bulls, on the other hand, were carried by their star trio of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic. They became the first trio of teammates in the 2022-23 season to have 20+ points and 3+ steals apiece, and the first trio to do it for Chicago since 1977-78.

The loss has ended the 76ers’ eight-game winning streak and prevented them from jumping over the Boston Celtics on the Eastern Conference standings. Philly remained the third seed, trailing the Celtics by half a game and the leading Milwaukee Bucks by three games.

The Bulls, on the other hand, solidified their spot in the Play-In tournament. They remain at No. 10 but now have two games in hand over the Washington Wizards at No. 11.
