]]>The Knicks will receive guard Denzel Valentine from the Cavs and cash considerations and draft rights to Wang Zhelin and Brad Newley from the Lakers as part of the trade. On the other hand, the LA team will get the draft rights to Louis Labeyrie.
Rondo returned to the Lakers in the offseason after splitting 2020-21 between the Atlanta Hawks and the LA Clippers. However, the 35-year-old saw limited action in Los Angeles, playing in just 18 games and 3.1 points and 3.7 assists per contest.
The Cavaliers were highly motivated to do this deal, especially since the loss of Rubio left them without a veteran presence on the bench. Cleveland has exceeded expectations in 2021-22 and is currently fifth in Eastern Conference with a 21-16 record. Rondo is expected to play a significant role for the team moving forward, and the Cavs believe he will help them continue to push for the playoffs.
On the other hand, the Lakers did the deal as Rondo dropped out of rotation, and it was unlikely he would crack it again anytime soon. His departure opens up a roster spot for the team, which they will most likely use to sign forward Stanley Johnson.
Finally, the Knicks probably wanted to see whether they could get something out of Valentine, who averaged 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds with Cleveland this season. If not, they can move away from him at no cost considering he is on the partially-guaranteed deal.

]]>Rondo appeared in a combined 45 games for the Hawks and the Clippers last season, averaging 5.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 17.1 minutes. What’s more, he achieved 40.4 percent shooting accuracy from a three-point range.
During his previous tenure with the Lakers, Rondo achieved in more impressive results, averaging 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He made 94 appearances for the Lakers over two seasons, helping them lift the 2020 NBA Championship trophy.
Rondo believes that the LA Lakers have a strong chance of recapturing their 2020 glory this season, explaining: ‘Wisdom is definitely key to winning a championship. We have a lot of that, obviously, with the age and experience on the court.”
While previously the most experienced player on the team, Rondo is now the fifth oldest on the roster behind Carmelo Anthony (37), LeBron James (36), Marc Gasol (36), Trevor Ariza (36) and Dwight Howard (35).

]]>The post Clippers Trade Patrick Beverley and Others for Grizzlies’ Eric Bledsoe appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The teams haven’t yet confirmed the deal, but some of the players involved in the trade, including Beverley, already acknowledged it on social media.
The deal gives the Clippers a starting-caliber point guard who can shoulder a significant portion of the playmaking load for the team. Bledsoe played 71 games with the New Orleans Pelicans last season, averaging 12.2 points and 3.8 assists per game. He was sent to Grizzlies earlier this month as part of the trade that helped New Orleans land center Jonas Valanciunas.
But the trade made even more sense for LA from a financial standpoint. By acquiring Bledsoe, the Clippers saved themselves $30 million in luxury tax while also getting an $8.3 million trade exception.
The Grizzlies, on the other hand, get financial flexibility with the deal as Beverley and Rondo are both on expiring contracts. The team could let their contracts run out and use them as part of the rotation or flip them before the trade deadline and get more assets in return.
Beverley, considered one of the league’s most energetic defenders, spent the previous four years in Los Angeles and picked up three NBA All-Defensive nods. He finished the 2020-21 season averaging 7.5 points per game.
Rondo, on the other hand, started the season with the Atlanta Hawks but ended up being shipped to the Clippers in exchange for Lou Williams and two second-round draft picks. The Clippers hoped Rondo would help them in the postseason with his experience and playmaking skills, but the 35-year-old veteran struggled in the playoffs and fell completely out of the rotation towards the end of the team’s run.
Finally, Daniel Oturu is a 2020 second-round pick who had an encouraging NBA Summer League performance this year. It is unclear whether the Grizzlies plan to keep him.

]]>Rondo will sit out the double-header against the Charlotte Hornets and matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. The team is expected to re-evaluate him in seven days ahead of their three road games against teams from the Western Conference (The Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, and Portland Trail Blazers).
Rondo missed the first two games of the season before making his Hawks’ debut in a 128-120 win over the Detroit Pistons on December 28th. He also played in a 145-141 loss to the Brooklyn Nets two days later but spent only 16 minutes on the court and failed to score any points.
The 34-year-old veteran went on to miss the next three games, including Monday’s loss to the New York Knicks. He was given a green light to play the Knicks but ended up sitting out the game.
Rajon Rondo inked a two-year, $15 million contract with Atlanta Hawks with the organization hoping he would add experience and veteran leadership to their young squad. Rondo spent the 2019-20 season with the LA Lakers, playing a significant part in their NBA title run.

]]>Rondo suffered the injury during practice on Sunday night. He is scheduled to have surgery at some point this week.
Rondo spent the majority of the 2019/20 season as Lakers’ back-up point guard. In 48 games, he averaged 7.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game.
It’s unclear who’ll step in for Rajon Rondo for the Lakers, considering that they have already lost starting point guard Avery Bradley for the rest of the season. Bradley opted to sit out the NBA restart due to family reasons and concerns over coronavirus pandemic and was later replaced by free agent JR Smith.
Lakers will probably have to now rely on bench warmers Alex Caruso and Quinn Cook, who didn’t play a prominent role this season. Caruso, who is a fan favorite, played 17.8 minutes per game this season and averaged 5.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. Quinn, on the other hand, only spent 10.8 minutes on the court and had 4.8 points to show for.

]]>Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo will miss all of January with a finger injury that he sustained in the third quarter of the Lakers’ win over Golden State.
This is the second significant hand injury that Rondo has suffered this season, as the former Kentucky Wildcat missed 17 games earlier in the season after breaking a metacarpal bone in his right hand.
Now, Rondo will have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right ring finger that he sustained in a battle for the ball with Warriors forward Draymond Green.
Rondo has only appeared for the Lakers in 14 games this season, making two starts, but has contributed 9 points and 7 assists per game in limited playing time.
The Lakers are now feeling an injury crunch as 2019 begins, as Rondo joins injured forward LeBron James on the injury report. James was also hurt in the Los Angeles victory over Golden State, suffering a groin strain that is expected to keep him out of action for a couple of weeks.
