Houston Rockets’ superstar Russell Westbrook has tested positive for coronavirus. The 31-year-old All-Star announced the news on social media, adding that he’s “currently feeling well.”

According to Westbrook, despite testing positive, he intends to rejoin his teammates in Orlando once he gets cleared.

Rockets traveled to Orlando last week, but Westbrook, James Harden, and Luc Mbah a Moute were not with the rest of the team for unspecified reasons. The trio was initially expected to join their teammates in “three to four days,” but it remains unclear whether that will happen now.

Russell Westbrook was expected to be Rockets’ driving force Orlando, as the team was getting ready to challenge for NBA title. Westbrook, who joined Rockets in the offseason from Oklahoma City Thunder, was averaging 27.5 points per game before the season was suspended. He also had 8.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.9 steals on average.

Westbrook’s positive coronavirus test reportedly wasn’t the only headache for Houston Rockets since the team came to Orlando. According to sources, Rockets’ forward Bruno Caboclo broke the quarantine upon arrival and will now have to spend eight days in isolation in his room. He will be allowed to rejoin team practices after that.

After sending Paul George to the LA Clippers for a monster haul of draft picks, Oklahoma City Thunder is reportedly ready to completely hit the reset button on their team. OKC is now exploring the market for their All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook, and a trade might happen any moment now.

There are several teams who are interested in acquiring Westbrook, who won NBA MVP Award in 2017, but the Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, and Miami Heat are expected to be the most aggressive in trying to get the deal done with the Thunder.

The Pistons want to get back to being a contender in the Eastern Conference and think that pairing Westbrook with Blake Griffin would propel them into the East elite. They are also the team that can offer the most enticing package to Thunder in trade talks.

Rockets’ general Daryl Morey is known to be hunting for deals all year long, so Houston’s interest in Russell Westbrook isn’t surprising. The issue here is that the Rockets don’t have much to work with given the fact that they still have Chris Paul’s $125 million contract on the books. Sources close to the team described the trade as “a long shot.”

Finally, Heat are facing a similar problem to the Rockets as they previously spent some of their assets on acquiring Jimmy Butler in a sign-and-trade deal. Their only chance is that Thunder is valuing Goran Dragic’s expiring deal and would be willing to have some salary relief next summer.

Point guard-needy teams like Chicago Bulls and Orlando Magic are believed to be exploring the possibility of adding Westbrook as well, but they are still to formally engage in talks with OKC.

Although Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell Westbrook is making progress towards recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the All-Star point guard has still ways to go until he returns to the basketball court. According to OKC’s coach Billy Donovan, Westbrook is still not cleared for full contact practice at the moment and remains doubtful for the season opener against Golden State Warriors next Tuesday.

“Every day for him, he feels better and better,” – said Donovan on Thursday. “I don’t want to say [if he’ll be ready]. I know you guys want to know that, but that’s too far out, and there will be a lot of things that will go into that decision.”

“There’s certain things he’ll have to go through to get himself fully cleared to play, but he’s certainly moving in the right direction and he’s worked really hard at his rehab to get himself back.” – he added.

Russell Westbrook underwent surgery, described as a pre-emptive measure, in early September after feeling “stiffness” in his right knee. While this was the same knee that Westbrook had three surgeries on earlier, the sources close to OKC organization said that the issue wasn’t alarming.

It is most likely that Thunder won’t risk getting Westbrook back to the court earlier since backup point guard Dennis Schroder showed during the preseason that he can step in and be a capable playmaker.
