There has been a lot of talk lately about veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick retiring after the 2020 NFL season, but it appears that Fitzmagic could continue to grace NFL stadiums this year as well.

Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Fitzpatrick downplayed the possibility of ending his career and said that he still “wants to play.”

“For me personally, I have to take every offseason now and just reassess. I know these last two years have really re-lit that fire under me,” said Fitzpatrick. “I still want to play. I enjoy being out there playing.”

Fitzpatrick, who turned 38 in November, explained that he was open to returning to the Miami Dolphins or playing somewhere else.

“So, there’s a lot of thought that has to go into this thing, but I still love playing the game,” he added.

Ryan Fitzpatrick split the starting duties with rookie Tua Tagovailoa last season in Miami despite playing some of his best football in years. In seven starts, Fitzpatrick went 4-3 while throwing for 1792 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

If he decides to return in 2021, Fitzpatrick will undoubtedly have a lot of interest around the league. This will especially be the case with teams that have young QBs or those looking for a bridge signal-caller.

After contemplating retirement following the end of the regular season, Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick decided he still wants to play football in 2020. Fitzpatrick recently made an appearance on ESPN’s Golic and Wingo on Friday and confirmed he’ll return next season and remain with the Dolphins.

Fitzpatrick, who turned 37 in November, played with eight different teams in the past 15 years he spent in the NFL. He was Dolphins’ starting QB for the better part of the last season, finishing 2019 with 3,529 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.

“It was a crazy roller coaster at the beginning of the year,” Fitzpatrick told Golic and Wingo. “There were a lot more dips on the down than up. It showed a lot for Brian Flores as a first-time head coach to keep the team, keep us interested, keep the intensity and practices at a high level, and even attention level of the guys.”

There is a chance that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain Miami Dolphins’ starting QB as the team is going through a rebuilding phase. Miami also has Josh Rosen, 10th overall pick in 2018, on their roster but the 22-year-old isn’t expected to be part of the team’s long term plans.

Instead, the Dolphins are expected to take a franchise quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft, where they hold the fifth overall pick. The most probable choice is Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, but Oregon’s Justin Herbert also represents an intriguing option.
