]]>Schenn will succeed Ryan O’Reilly, who served in the role before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs midway through the 2022-23 season.
Schenn receiving the captaincy doesn’t come as a surprise. The 32-year-old player has been considered one of the leaders in the Blues locker room and served as an alternate captain. He was also one of the candidates for captaincy in 2020 before the team went with O’Reilly.
It also helps that Schenn is one of the few players remaining on the Blues from a roster that won the Stanley Cup in 2019. His experience and winning mentality will likely play an important role in the franchise’s rebuild and efforts to return to contention.
Brayden Schenn made his NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings in 2009-10 but played only nine games with the franchise before being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011. After six seasons in Philly, Schenn landed with the Blues on the eve of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
Schenn has one All-Star appearance from 2018 on his resume. He scored 240 goals and dished 349 assists for a total of 589 points in 858 regular season games.

]]>The post Blues’ Vladimir Tarasenko Reportedly Still Desires a Trade appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Tarasenko asked the Blues to trade him back in the summer after becoming unhappy with how the franchise handled the shoulder surgeries that limited him to just 34 games in the past two seasons. This led St. Louis to leave the 29-year-old star exposed in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft, but Seattle Kraken opted against taking him on.
The Blues don’t seem too opposed to letting Tarasenko leave but found that the market for him has been scarce. The teams are cautious due to the three-time All-Star’s health, while his large contract, which pays him $9.5 million in 2021-22 alone, also proved to be a hard sell.
So far, the best option for the two sides seems to have Tarasenko back on ice despite their differences. If he starts playing well and shows he’s healthy once again, other NHL teams might start making phone calls, and both the player and the Blues might get what they want.
Tarasenko played 531 games and contributed 442 points since joining the Blues in 2012. He also helped the franchise win a Stanley Cup in 2019.

]]>The post Mike Hoffman Joins St. Louis Blues On a Tryout Agreement appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The St. Louis Blues announced on Monday that the team signed Hoffman to a professional tryout agreement. This will enable the 30-year-old player to enter training camp with the Blues but it doesn’t guarantee him a contract for the 2020-21 NHL season.
Despite the nature of the deal, it is highly likely that Hoffman will spend the next season in St. Louis. The team has around $4 million in cap space that will likely be enough to sign the veteran to a deal before opening night.
Mike Hoffman entered free agency after delivering a solid 2019-20 campaign with the Florida Panthers. In 69 games throughout the regular season, he scored 29 goals and dished 30 assists for a total of 59 points.
Players with this kind of production usually don’t have a problem landing a long-term deal, but the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic made teams hesitant towards making a big commitment to Hoffman. The player himself admitted early in the offseason that he was receiving less than satisfactory offers.
This is why the tryout with the Blues, although surprising, makes sense.
If Hoffman ends up signing a deal for 2020-21, he will get a chance to play a prominent role on a playoff contender. With another good campaign, he can increase his value even further and then enter the free agency again when the landscape is expected to be more beneficial towards free agents.

]]>According to reports, the star scorer is going to have to undergo a third should surgery. The surgery is expected to take place next week and Tarsenko will not be reevaluated again until five months after the surgery.
This means that the Blues really have no idea whether they will have him back in the lineup at the start of next season. The 28-year-old forward missed almost the entirety of the 2019-2020 season because of his shoulder injury.
The injury occurred after just 10 games. After surgery, Tarasenko came back to play four games in the bubble, during which he didn’t score a single goal and didn’t look like himself.
With a third shoulder surgery coming, it’s hard to predict what his future with the team and in the NHL in general will look like.
When he was healthy, Tarsenko was one of the best scorers in the league. In the five seasons before this one, he scored 182 goals in 395 games. Only Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and current Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares netted more goals in that same time period.

]]>“They’re hungry,” Berube said in a recent chat with reporters. “They want to get back. We got the good motivation, I believe, coming back and playing and trying to repeat. Our guys are in a pretty good spot now.”
Recently, NHL confirmed that they’re terminating the regular season and that they’ll resume with a playoff of 24 games. The Blues will be returning to training over the next few days and competitive games will start up again in late July.
The Blues surprised everyone last season when they went from last place in January to earning a playoff spot and going on to win the Stanley Cup. During their season this year, the Blues had a better regular season and they were at the top of the Western Conference with a 42-19-10 record. Hopefully, this will give them an advantage in the playoff format.
But, Berube knows better than anyone that one team can always come from nowhere and take home the trophy. “It’s all an even playing field when we come back,” Berube said. “The team that wants to get out there and plays the hardest and plays at their pace is going to have the best chance.”
The Blues will begin the playoffs as part of the Western Conference Seeding Round Robin and they’re set to play Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars. There has yet to be an exact schedule announced.
