The Buffalo Bills wideout Stefon Diggs is about to join the group of several star wide receivers who landed big contracts this offseason. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Wednesday that Diggs and Bills are in agreement to a massive four-year, $104 million extension that comes with $70 million guaranteed.

The Bills decided to reward Diggs for his contributions in the past two seasons, during which he established himself as one of the best WRs in the game. The 28-year-old player made 230 catches for 2,760 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2020 and 2021 while earning two Pro Bowl nods and one First-Team All-Pro selection.

Diggs now has the salary to match his performances and is joining fellow Pro Bowlers Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams, who also inked huge extensions earlier in the year. The difference is that Diggs is getting paid by his own team, while both Hill and Adams had to force trades to new teams to get their money.

The new deal that Diggs signed will now keep him under contract with the Bills through 2027, setting the stage for the Maryland product to retire with the franchise. This is something that reportedly both sides would like to happen.

While the Bills are yet to make the official announcement, Diggs himself already confirmed the deal on social media.

“There was so much work put in to get to this point, but I am beyond happy to know that I will be playing the rest of my career with BILLS MAFIA. Words cannot describe how I’m feeling right now,” Diggs wrote on Instagram.

Stefon Diggs spent the first five years of his pro career with the Minnesota Vikings. Despite emerging as the team’s No. 1 option at the wide receiver position during that time, the Vikings decided to move on from him after the 2019 NFL season. The Bills, looking for a new weapon for their talented quarterback Josh Allen, jumped on the opportunity and traded four draft picks to Minnesota to get Diggs in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills were determined to get a No.1 option on wide receiver position this offseason, and it appears that they finally have their man. According to multiple reports from around the league, Bills have acquired wideout Stefon Diggs from Minnesota Vikings.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissiero reports that Bills sent to Minnesota their first-round pick, a fifth-round pick, and a sixth-round pick in 2020 as well as a fourth-round pick in 2021. On the other side, besides Diggs, Buffalo also got a seventh-rounder in 2020.

Diggs is coming off another productive season in 2019, finishing the year with 63 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns.

While it comes as a surprise that Stefon Diggs landed in Buffalo, the fact that he was traded didn’t catch anyone off guard. Diggs’ name was mentioned in trade talks during the past season, and it wasn’t a secret that he was unhappy in Minnesota.

Diggs showed evident signs of frustration early in the 2019 season, as Vikings’ struggled and were more focused on the running game. Several teams tried to jump on the opportunity and trade for the talented WR, but Minnesota was not keen on letting him go.

Vikings’ gradually changed their stance over the course of the past few weeks, when it became clear that Diggs is still unhappy with the organization. Rather than trying to force an unhappy player to remain on the team, the front office decided to accept Bills’ generous offer and use this capital in addressing some of the team’s other needs.

Thanks to a stockpile of picks, Minnesota now can choose Diggs’ replacement in the first or second round of WR-rich 2020 NFL Draft, while using the remaining assets to strengthen other positions.

Bills, on the other hand, now have a legitimate star on the offense and a great weapon for their young QB Josh Allen. Also, the 26-year-old is on a team-friendly contract and allows Buffalo more leeway in further deals.
