We’ll check him out [on Sunday], but we’re hopeful he’ll be OK.” The Tampa Bay coach was unable to offer any further details.
Stamkos has continued to prove himself as a key player in the Lightning’s lineup, currently second among the team’s scorers with 27 goals and third with 66 points in total.
Drafted by Tampa Bay as the number one pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Stamkos is the team leader with 508 goals and 1,038 points. He has lifted the Lightning to two Stanley Cup championships and has guided the team to third place in the Atlantic Division this season.

]]>This marks the third Stanley Cup win for Avalanche, but making a comeback wasn’t an easy task. They previously lifted the trophy in 1996 and 2001, and it took over two decades to get back in the top form and easily cruise past one of the NHL’s leading teams to win the title again.
The Stanley Cup Finals brought several easy wins to Colorado, but Game 6 wasn’t one of them. Tampa Bay took the lead in the first period thanks to Steven Stamkos’ amazing opener, but Colorado made a comeback thanks to two goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen.
Cale Makar was also one of the game’s shiniest stars. The 23-year-old defenseman walked away with the Conn Smythe Trophy for the MVP of the playoffs after netting 29 points in 20 games. He said it feels “so surreal” to come this far, adding that “there’s nothing better than this”.
Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog echoed his statement, saying the team’s Stanley Cup win comes after “20-plus years of just dreaming and wanting and working for it and just finally coming to fruition after a lot of crazy years and a lot of hard work.”

]]>Wednesday night’s game gives Colorado a 3-1 series lead in the best-of-seven finals. The next game could determine the winner, but it’s still not too late for Tampa Bay to make a comeback – it’s just highly unlikely given the amazing state Colorado is in right now.
Nathan MacKinnon and Andrew Cogliano scored goals for the Avalanche, but all eventually came down to Nazem Kadri’s epic overtime goal. He returned to the ice after undergoing thumb surgery to take part in his very first Stanley Cup Finals.
“I’d been waiting for this (for) my whole life, so I figured I’d stop waiting and just try to join the party. I’m just grateful I’m able to be in this position, and with this group of guys, (you) couldn’t have written a better story,” Kadri told ESPN.
Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog said he’s not surprised by Kadri’s amazing performance because he’s the kind of guy who’ll do everything to win. Game 5 is set to take place on Friday, and Colorado will have the chance to lift the Cup trophy on home ice.

]]>The post Lightning Coach Says Nikita Kucherov is “Definitely Out” appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The Lightning’s head coach Jon Cooper told the media on Monday that the team doesn’t have a timetable regarding Kucherov, but did describe the injury as “definitely not a day-to-day thing.”
“We’ll wait until we get official word. He’s definitely going to be out for a little while here, but I’m not going to put a timetable on it until we get official word,” Cooper added. “In the short term here, he’s definitely out.”
This is bad news not just for Tampa Bay but also for Kucherov, who just got back from a major injury. The 28-year-old star was forced to miss all of 2020-21 after undergoing hip surgery and seemed on a great path to bounce back successfully. He had one goal and three assists for a total of four points this season.
In Kutcherov’s absence, Tampa Bay is expected to lean on veteran Corey Perry in their first line. Perry, who has 818 points in 1097 NHL career games, signed with the Lightning during the offseason and has no points through the first three games of the 2021-22 season.

]]>On Wednesday, Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois made the following announcement regarding Kucherov’s injury: “Our hope, and it’s a realistic hope, based on the expected timeline of recovery for this type of surgery, is that he would be ready for the playoffs. I know how much it pains him that he will be missing the regular season. I also know how hard he’s going to work to get back as soon as possible.”
The Russian player has been the Lightning’s leading scorer in each of the past five seasons. He scored 85 points (33 goals, 52 assists) in 68 games last season. He also led the NHL scorers’ charts in the postseason, with 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) in 25 games, proving himself to be instrumental in his team’s Stanley Cup success.
During the 2018-19 season, Kucherov won the Hart Trophy for being the NHL MVP. Since the start of his tenure with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Kucherov has scored 529 points (212 goals, 317 points) in 463 games.

]]>The Stars have signed him to a two-year deal, according to sources.
Bowness was named the team’s interim head coach in December 2019 when then-coach Jim Montgomery was fired. Bowness had a very successful season, to say the least.
He took the Stars all of the way to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they ended up losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games. As the interim coach, Bowness had a 20-13-5 record in 38 regular-season games as well.
Bowness worked with the Lightning for five seasons before joining the Stars. He has also been a head coach for five other franchises: the Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, and Phoenix Coyotes.
As a head coach, he has a career record of 142-302-48-8.
In his recent work with the Stars, Bowness showed great understanding of the team’s strengths and weaknesses, fine-tuning the roster and the schemes and significantly boosting offensive play while making a run at the Stanley Cup.
Last season’s finals appearance was the first time that Dallas has been to the Stanley Cup Finals since 2000.

Having played for both the Lightning and the Buffalo Sabers last season, Bogosian scored seven points (one goal, six assists) in 27 games. This included four points in 20 post-season games as he helped the Lightning in their quest for Stanley Cup victory.
The other major trade that caused some media buzz was the Leafs’ decision to part ways with forward Andreas Johnsson, who was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. In exchange, the Leafs received restricted free agent Joey Anderson.
“Andreas is a hardworking, competitive forward who can slot up and down the lineup,” New Jersey Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald declared. “The overall versatility of his game will be a great complement to our centremen, with his skating, quickness, and scoring touch.”

The winning goal was scored by Anthony Cirelli 13:18 into overtime. Interestingly enough, every single series that the Lightning won in the playoffs this year was capped off with a win in overtime. The Islanders were the only team that the Lightning needed more than five games to defeat.
Tampa Bay has a very deep roster of talented players. They were able to make it to the cup without their injured captain Steven Stamkos, who has been out for the duration of the post-season. They were also able to defeat the Islanders with their best center Brayden Point having to take two games off.
The first goal of the game for the Lightning was scored by Victor Hedman, who has a total of nine goals in the playoffs now. Right winger Nikita Kucherov assisted on the goal, bring his points total for the playoffs up to an impressive 26.
However, the star of the game for Tampa Bay was goalkeeper Andrei Vasilveskiy, who never wavered and stopped 26 shots on goal.
Tampa Bay has been resilient and strong-minded all series, with the Islanders scoring first not just in this game, but in five of the six games they played against each other.
The last time the Lightning won a Stanley Cup Final was 2004. They will face the Dallas Stars in this year’s Stanley Cup Finals, who are making their first finals appearance since 2000.
