The Miami Dolphins will be without their starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for Week 5 game against the New York Jets. With Tagovailoa still being out due to a concussion suffered in a 27-15 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Dolphins are forced to turn to veteran Teddy Bridgewater.

According to Miami’s head coach Mike McDaniel, Tagovailoa still hasn’t cleared the concussion protocol and won’t join the team for a trip to New York. However, McDaniel added that Alabama product is “diligently going through the process” and is getting better each day.

Tagovailoa got hurt after taking a hard sack in the second quarter of the Bengals’ game and hitting his head on the ground. He was sent to the hospital shortly after but ended up being discharged the same night.

The Dolphins, who started the season 3-1, are now hoping that Bridgewater can help them stay afloat before Tagovailoa returns. The 29-year-old looked solid coming for Tagovailoa in the Bengals game, throwing for 193 yards and one touchdown in two-quarters of action.

“I can’t be Tua, “said Bridgewater when asked how he feels about replacing Tagovailoa. “I had to learn a lesson when I was in New Orleans. I couldn’t be Drew Brees. So it’s like, as long as I continue to be myself, the guys realize, man, this guy isn’t fake.”

The Denver Broncos became the latest NFL team to decide on their starting quarterback for Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. Broncos opted for veteran Teddy Bridgewater, who got the coach Vic Fangio’s confidence ahead of 2019’s second-round pick Drew Lock.

Fangio informed the team about his decision on Wednesday, with the Broncos confirming the news on their social media shortly after.

Lock started 13 games for the Broncos last season, throwing for 2,933 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, he threw 15 interceptions, tied for most in the league in 2020, while ranking last among starters in completion percentage with 57.3 percent.

Lock’s struggles prompted Denver’s front office to start searching competition for the young signal-caller. They ended up settling for Bridgewater, sending Carolina Panthers a sixth-round pick to acquire him.

Both Bridgewater and Lock had a strong postseason, prompting Fangio to label the competition for the starting job an “Even Steven.”

Bridgewater got to play four series in two preseason games, completing 16-of-19 passes and throwing for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Lock, on the other hand, was 14-of-21 with 231 passing yards and two TDs as well.

Still, it looks like Bridgewater showed more than Lock throughout the preseason to get an edge for the Week 1 start. This means that the 28-year-old player will register starts for three different teams in three years after he previously started five games for New Orleans Saints in 2019 and 15 games for the Panthers in 2020.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is heading to yet another team, his third in three seasons. This was confirmed on Wednesday when it was announced by the Carolina Panthers that they had traded him to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick.

After acquiring quarterback Sam Darnold from the New York Jets earlier in the offseason, the Panthers no longer had a heavy need for Bridgewater, which explains why they made the trade. Clearly, they felt that the Broncos’ 191st pick in this year’s NFL Draft was worth more.

To sweeten the pot for Denver, the Panthers are expected to pay a large chunk of Bridgewater’s salary in the upcoming season: $7 million of it, to be exact. Bridgewater’s salary cap hit was $22 million in 2021, and a bit less than $14 million in 2020.

Bridgewater spent the first leg of his career with the Minnesota Vikings, and later with the New Orleans Saints, where he served as a backup for Drew Brees. He was then signed by Carolina last season, getting an opportunity to prove himself as a starter.

However, it appears as though he wasn’t able to make a strong enough impact that Carolina was willing to replace him so easily. Nevertheless, Bridgewater will receive further opportunities to show his worth with the Broncos.
