In one of the most surprising developments in this summer’s transfer window, Valencia CF announced on Tuesday that it had come to an agreement with Leeds United for the transfer of Spanish international forward Rodrigo Moreno.

Leeds, which won promotion to the Premier League after finishing in first place in the SkyBet Championship in the 2019-20 season, have broken their all-time transfer fee record after agreeing to pay a reported sum of $35 million to acquire Rodrigo.

Rodrigo, who has spent the past five seasons playing for Los Che, became one of the best forwards in La Liga after coming over from Benfica.

The Celta Vigo academy graduate, playing in a hybrid striker/winger role, scored a total of 59 goals and provided 41 assists in 220 games with Valencia. His starring role at Valencia also led him to become a regular in the Spanish National Team, as he has had 22 caps since debuting in 2014.

The 29-year-old player is now set to become Leeds’ biggest star as the club embarks upon its first season in the Premier League since the 2003-2004 season.

Head coach Marcelo Biesla will certainly appreciate his club’s willingness to splash big on a player of Rodrigo’s quality as the team looks to compete and stay up in the Premier League in the upcoming season.

Manchester City bagged one of the transfer market’s biggest prizes on Tuesday, officially announcing that they had signed former Valencia CF winger Ferran Torres to a five-year deal.

Torres, who became available on the market after Valencia failed to reach contract terms with him for an extension, is considered one of the continent’s top talents and has a bright future ahead of him at the ripe age of 20.

The Spaniard scored six goals and recorded seven assists across La Liga and Champions League action for Los Che in 2019-20, his first full season playing on the first team. This performance opened the eyes of the biggest clubs all over Europe, many of which then made bids for his signature.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City ended up winning the race after agreeing to personal terms with the young striker and offering a transfer fee of $27 million to Valencia, guaranteeing that the young winger will be a key part of the club’s future.

Torres is known as a technically gifted and quick winger who has both a fantastic set of passing skills as well as a knack for goal.

The new Man City winger is set to begin training soon with his new team for the kickoff of the 2020-21 Premier League season in September.

Valencia has found a new head coach after parting ways with Albert Celades following a disappointing 2019/20 season. La Liga side recently confirmed that Javi Garcia, former Watford and Malaga manager, will take over the club permanently.

According to the club’s official announcement, Garcia inked a two-year deal with Valencia. He was jobless since September when he was fired by Watford after opening the season with just one point in four games.

“I believe that I am in an exceptional place,” said Garcia during his introductory press conference. “I am fortunate to be able to coach at this club. I am here today coaching Valencia CF thanks to all of those clubs and players who I have overseen, who have helped me to be who I am. For me, Valencia CF are my team now, and I am going to defend the club above anything else.”

Garcia will be Valencia’s fourth manager in less than a year. The club entered the 2019/20 with Marcelino at the helm but decided to part ways with the 54-year-old Spaniard after just three games into the season. Celades took over from him, posting a 36.59 winning percentage in 41 games before being fired as well. Finally, Salvador González “Voro” guided the club to the end of the season on an interim basis.

Javi Garcia worked all over Europe during his managerial career, coaching clubs like Pontevedra, Cádiz, Olympiacos Volou, Almeria, Rubin Kazan, and Watford among others. His biggest success was winning Segunda División B with both Pontevedra and Cádiz, as well as being FA Cup runner-up with Watford.

An interesting curiosity about Garcia is that he never spent more than two years with one club.

Manchester City has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Valencia CF winger Ferran Torres, signalling that a deal for the young star could be on the horizon.

Torres, a Valencia youth product who has established himself as a regular starter for Los Che at the age of 20 this season, has only a year left on his contract with his current team and media reports have indicated that he is not interesting in staying there beyond next season.

This means that Valencia has been interested in finding a potential transfer partner in order to make some money off of their young star before he departs. Torres is reportedly uncomfortable with staying at Valencia due to turmoil within the club and the lack of European competitions for the team in the upcoming season.

Torres has played in 42 matches with his team this season between La Liga, the Champions League, and the Copa del Rey. In those matches, he has scored 6 goals and contributed 7 assists, promising numbers for a player that won’t even turn 21 until next February.

Manchester City will now look to agree on a transfer fee with Valencia in order to bring yet another promising talent in for manager Pep Guardiola.

After the final whistle at the Benito Villamarín Stadium in Sevilla blew, Valencia’s players collapsed on the ground. It was partially due to exhaustion on a hot night in southern Spain, and partially because they could hardly believe what they had just done.

Valencia shocked Barcelona by a 2-1 final to claim the Copa del Rey, the club’s first major title in 11 years.

The Chés jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and held on to take home the victory in the cup final despite a second-half Leo Messi goal.

Valencia, which finished 4th in La Liga this season, got on the board first with a stunning Kevin Gameiro strike in the 21st minute that Barça keeper Jasper Cillessen couldn’t get to.

They took a 2-0 advantage when Rodrigo Moreno headed in a cross from Carlos Soler only 12 minutes later.

Barça tried desperately to generate chances in the second half of the game, but Valencia’s back line held solid. The only goal that Barcelona managed to score was after a bar bounced off of the post and to Leo Messi after a corner.

Valencia’s win ends Barcelona’s four-year reign as the champions of Spain’s domestic tournament. It’s their first Copa del Rey trophy since the 2009 edition.
