The post Redskins Give Pro Bowl LT Trent Williams Permission to Seek Trade appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>There were some indications that Williams, who first asked for a trade back in April, might remain in Washington following the arrival of a new head coach Ron Rivera. But despite the reports that Rivera and the 32-year-old a “good talks,” the player didn’t want to change his mind.
“Trent is excited to resume his Pro Bowl career with a team interested in a player of his stature,” Taylor told The Athletic. “We really appreciate and respect [owner] Dan Snyder for the chance to seek another opportunity. This isn’t about a contract, but time for a change of scenery.”
Trent Williams’ trade request came after Redskins’ medical staff misdiagnosed a dangerous growth on his head. Williams opted to remain away from the team, but Redskins mostly refused to take calls from other NFL teams. He ended his holdout after the trade deadline passed but nevertheless hasn’t played a single game in 2019.
While Williams’ claims that he wants to be traded because he lost his faith in the organization, sources close to the situation say that the bigger issue is the new contract. He has one year left on his deal, which will pay him $12.5 million in 2020, and would like to get a big raise. The reports say that Williams is looking to become the highest-paid tackle in the game, and would like to get more than $20 million a year.
So far, there it’s unclear which team might make a move for Williams, but Cleveland Browns emerge as the most intriguing option. Browns tried to trade for the player in the past, and might now rekindle their interest as he’s officially on the market.

]]>The post Redskins Release Veteran CB Josh Norman appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Norman’s release was almost a given after another tumultuous season in Northern Virginia. After signing a big-money contract with the ‘Skins after seasons of dominant play with the Carolina Panthers, the South Carolina native never quite lived up to his billing at Fedex Field.
The five-year, $75 million deal given to Norman was widely considered yet another example of the franchise’s reckless, ill-advised spending.
After spending three seasons as an undisputed starter with the ‘Skins despite mediocre production, Norman was benched at the end of the 2019 season. He only appeared on special teams in the last games of the season despite the team being short at cornerback.
It was a long fall from grace for Norman, who was a first-team All-Pro squad member and a Pro Bowl participant in the 2015 season before joining the Redskins.
Washington will save $12.5 million in salary-cap space after releasing the 32-year-old veteran, space that they intend to use in the free-agent market to improve a team that limped to a 3-13 record in the 2019 season.
Norman is now a free agent and may sign with any team.

]]>In a statement issued after Keenum’s trade was made official, Washington’s head coach Jay Gruden said that while they have two healthy quarterbacks on the roster, the team might still address their QB need in the upcoming draft.
“We still may address it in the draft, who knows? But we have to have two quarterbacks in OTA’s and for someone to come in here and compete with Colt,” – said Gruden. “We all feel great about Colt without a doubt but he’s had his injury history as well, and we anticipate a competitive camp with those two guys. And if we add a third guy via the draft or somewhere else, we’ll roll the ball out there and let them play, but I feel good about Colt and Case’s skillset; they are very similar so it’ll be easy to draw up plays for those two guys.”
After a breakout 2017 season with Minnesota Vikings, Case Keenum signed with the Broncos who hoped he could be a franchise quarterback for them. That didn’t happen as he struggled in his first season with the team, and Denver decided to move on from him by trading for Baltimore Ravens’ Joe Flacco in early February. Keenum finished the 2018 by completing 62.3 percent of his passes for 3,890 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Colt McCoy, on the other side, took over as Redskins’ starting QB last season after Smith’s injury but managed to play only three games before going down with an injury himself. In those three games he threw for 372 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Hearing from several different people over last few days that Alex Smith is having devastating complications from his broken leg surgery battling infection. Supposedly he's had multiple surgeries to try to combat infection. Chances of him playing again in real jeaopardy.

Ian Rapoport, who also confirmed the news, said it was early to speculate about the repercussions the injury could have for Smith, noting he was under the care of doctors.
#Redskins QB Alex Smith is battling an infection related to the surgery he had on his broken fibula and tibia, sources say. It’s premature to say what this means for his playing future. But it is being handled with care and dealt with seriously by doctors.

The Redskins issued a formal statement after the news was broken on Twitter.
“On behalf of Alex Smith, we appreciate all of the concerns and players over the injury he incurred on November 18th against the Houston Texans,” part of the statement read. “Although this is a serious injury, Alex and his family remain strong. We would ask that everyone please honor the Smith family’s request for privacy at this time.”
Before the complications, Smith was estimated to recover within 10 months. Now, the quarterback looks like he will need more time off the field. Smith’s backup Colt McCoy is also on injury reserve, adding woes to the Washington-based team.
