]]> Iga Swiatek came into this year’s Wimbledon as a world no. 1 following her triumph at the French Open, but she didn’t repeat the same kind of success at this tournament. Her 37-match winning streak ended after she lost to the French player Alize Cornet in round three.

Swiatek came into the game as a clear favorite, but she couldn’t stand her ground to the 37th-ranked Cornet. She easily defeated her in two sets, 6-4 6-2, and is set to face Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in her next match.

Despite the fact it ended her long winning streak, the loss at Wimbledon wasn’t a huge shocker for Swiatek because she never felt as comfortable on the grass as the clay and hard surfaces.

“I tried many things to feel better on court, on grass court, but it didn’t really work out… I know I didn’t play good tennis. I was pretty confused about my tactics. As a solid player, she used that pretty well. For sure, it wasn’t a good performance for me,” said the 21-year-old Polish player after the match.

It also didn’t help Swiatek’s case that she didn’t play a grass tournament before heading to Wimbledon. She took a break to recover mentally and deal with a shoulder injury following her victory at Roland Garros.

History repeated itself for Williams at Wimbledon because she lost in the first round last year, as well. She took a year-long break to recover from a leg injury and announced she’ll be making a comeback at the All England Club, but she didn’t stick around at Wimbledon for too long.

The 40-year-old tennis legend still showed signs of greatness, but she couldn’t stand her ground against Tan, who defeated her in three intense sets. She already has seven Wimbledon singles titles under her belt, and she’s chasing Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

The loss at Wimbledon didn’t discourage Williams, and she’s not sure if this is the last time that we’ll see her at the All England Club. She’s got her eyes set on the US Open right now, and she’s hoping she’ll be able to play at her home major.

“I mean, when you’re at home, especially in New York, and the US Open, that being the first place I’ve won a Grand Slam [in 1999], is something that’s always super special. There’s definitely lots of motivation to get better and to play at home,” said Williams.

]]> NBA experts spent the last few weeks speculating about Kyrie Irving’s possible exit from the Brooklyn Nets, but he’s not going anywhere. Despite rumors that he’s looking into other teams, Irving is staying where he is after opting into his $37 million player option.

As soon as the season ended, speculations about Irving’s potential transfer started circling around as he reportedly pursued a sign-and-trade deal with other teams. Some reports claim that several teams took notice, while ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Los Angeles Lakers are the only team showing actual interest.

It’s all water under the bridge now, since Irving told The Athletic that he’s sticking around in Brooklyn: “Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt-in. See you in the fall.”

Even after Irving decided to exercise his $37 million player option, the Nets could still trade him this offseason without his formal approval. They also have the option to offer him a long-term extension until June 30, 2023 before he becomes a free agent.

Irving’s last season with the Nets was quite rocky because he played in only 29 regular-season games after refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19, but that didn’t stop him from matching his career-high with 27.4 points per game.

]]> Kemba Walker has been with the Knicks for a single season, but his time in New York wasn’t meant to last. The NY Knicks traded him to the Detroit Pistons as a part of a three-team deal that also involves Walker’s previous team the Charlotte Hornets.

As a part of this deal, Detroit is set to receive both Walker and no. 13 overall pick, Jalen Duren, from Charlotte. The Hornets acquired a future first-round pick and multiple future second-round picks as a part of this deal, including multiple picks from New York.

The Knicks sent Duren and Walker to the Pistons for a 2025 conditional Milwaukee Bucks first-round pick. This shake-up comes shortly after the team sent no. 11 overall pick Ousmane Dieng to Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for three future first-round picks.

Kemba’s exit from the Knicks doesn’t come as a huge shocker since he was sidelined for most of the season. After dealing with knee problems this winter, he reached an agreement with the team to take a break back in February. The Knick’s president of basketball operations Leon Rose said they fully support his “decision to shut it down for the remainder of the season and use this time to prepare for next season.”

Before joining the Knicks in 2021, Kemba spent eight seasons with the Hornets before being traded to the Boston Celtics in 2019.

Williams accepted a wildcard to enter singles at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and decided to warm up in Eastbourne before heading to London. She made it to the semi-finals alongside Jabeur, but the duo announced their withdrawal from the tournament due to Jabeur’s right knee injury.

Even though her time at Eastbourne International was cut short, Williams had a chance to show us her signature intensity, and we’re excited to see what she has in store at Wimbledon.

“I have had some really good training leading up to Wimbledon and up to this tournament, and really hitting the ball well and just working out, and it’s been working. It’s just been connecting… I feel like I have been serving well so that’s been really good. Working really hard on that,” Williams told the reporters in Eastbourne.

The tennis icon hasn’t played a professional tennis match since the last year’s Wimbledon when she withdrew in the first round due to a leg injury. She dropped to no. 1,204 in the singles rankings in the months to come after missing a series of other tournaments so she could recover.

]]> Over the course of the past 11 seasons in the NFL, Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski built a reputation as one of the greatest tight ends in history – but all good things must come to an end. The four-time Super Bowl champion announced his retirement on Tuesday via social media.

This isn’t the first time Gronk announced he’s stepping away from football, but it doesn’t seem he’ll be coming back this time around. He initially retired after ending his run with the New England Patriots in 2018 but was later traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he reunited with Tom Brady and won the final Super Bowl of his career.

Gronk revealed he’s stepping away from football in a lengthy social media statement, where he thanked the Buccaneers for trusting him to come back to play and help build a championship team.

“I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field,” wrote Gronkowski.

During his time with the Patriots, Gronk won three Super Bowl titles and became a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He also set several NFL records, including most receiving touchdowns and most total touchdowns in a season by a tight end.

]]> Wimbledon is coming back to London later this month, but Naomi Osaka isn’t one of the players we’ll get to see on the tennis court. The four-time Grand Slam champion announced she’ll miss the tournament due to an Achilles injury.

Osaka announced her exit from Wimbledon in a social media post, where she reflected on her state of mind and explained that she’s trying to find a silver lining in a negative situation.

“After a storm comes the calm. This is a saying that I’m actively trying to master. II feel like life keeps dealing cards and you’re never gonna be used to them but it’s how you adapt to uncomfortable situations that really says stuff about your character,” wrote Osaka.

The 2022 Wimbledon Championship is set to take place between June 27 and July 10 at the All England Club in London. Osaka’s exit from Wimbledon isn’t a huge shocker since she previously mentioned she might miss the tournament in an interview at the French Open. The 24-year-old player explained she’s not as motivated to compete because Wimbledon feels “like an exhibition” after it was stripped of the ranking points in the face of its polarizing Russian ban.

2022 has been a rocky year for Osaka, who dropped to no. 43 in the WTA rankings after taking several breaks from tennis. She most recently took part in the French Open last month but lost to Amanda Anisimova in the very first round.

Gronk revealed he’s stepping away from football in a lengthy social media statement, where he thanked the Buccaneers for trusting him to come back to play and help build a championship team.

“I will now be going back into my retirement home, walking away from football again with my head held high knowing I gave it everything I had, good or bad, every time I stepped out on the field,” wrote Gronkowski.

During his time with the Patriots, Gronk won three Super Bowl titles and became a five-time Pro Bowl selection. He also set several NFL records, including most receiving touchdowns and most total touchdowns in a season by a tight end.

]]> Wimbledon is coming back to London later this month, but Naomi Osaka isn’t one of the players we’ll get to see on the tennis court. The four-time Grand Slam champion announced she’ll miss the tournament due to an Achilles injury.

Osaka announced her exit from Wimbledon in a social media post, where she reflected on her state of mind and explained that she’s trying to find a silver lining in a negative situation.

“After a storm comes the calm. This is a saying that I’m actively trying to master. II feel like life keeps dealing cards and you’re never gonna be used to them but it’s how you adapt to uncomfortable situations that really says stuff about your character,” wrote Osaka.

The 2022 Wimbledon Championship is set to take place between June 27 and July 10 at the All England Club in London. Osaka’s exit from Wimbledon isn’t a huge shocker since she previously mentioned she might miss the tournament in an interview at the French Open. The 24-year-old player explained she’s not as motivated to compete because Wimbledon feels “like an exhibition” after it was stripped of the ranking points in the face of its polarizing Russian ban.

2022 has been a rocky year for Osaka, who dropped to no. 43 in the WTA rankings after taking several breaks from tennis. She most recently took part in the French Open last month but lost to Amanda Anisimova in the very first round.
