]]>Davis has missed 13 consecutive games following the Lakers’ 122-109 loss to the Nuggets on Monday night due to a bone spur fractured off the navicular bone in his right foot. The Lakers have struggled in Davis’s absence, going 7-6 overall without the star player.
“I’ve already kind of had visions of what that could possibly look like with the frontcourt of myself, AD, and Thomas on the floor together,” LeBron James said following the Lakers’ 136-134 victory over the Sacramento Kings last Saturday night.
During Davis’s absence, Thomas Bryant has emerged as a standout player on the Lakers’ roster. He averaged 21.2 points on 71.9% shooting and 13.6 rebounds during the team’s five-game winning streak leading up to the loss against the Nuggets.
Byrant, who has also had a history of injury concerns including a partially torn ACL in his left knee two years ago, has only been on the court together with Davis for 13 minutes total this season.

]]>With Davis still sidelined due to picking up a stress injury in his right foot a week ago, the Lakers have resorted to playing Patrick Beverley alongside Dennis Schroder in the backcourt.
“Reality is, without AD, we lose a lot of length, which we don’t have already,” James said of the Lakers’ performances without Davis. “So we have to make up in ways that, without AD, is very difficult, very challenging. So, I think at one point we had a lineup of I think [Austin Reaves, at 6-5] was the tallest guy on the court.”
Lakers general manager and vice president of basketball operations Ron Pelinka admitted that the team is in need of bringing in new talent while admitting that finding trades is his responsibility.
James led all scorers during Sunday’s loss, scoring 38 points with 13-for-23 shooting.

]]>Wojnarowski reports that the pain in Davis’ foot “has subsided” lately and that the 29-year-old player is now set to have up to 10 days of rest before being re-evaluated. The Lakers hope he’ll be ready to play shortly after that.
Davis suffered a foot injury in a 126-103 win over the Denver Nuggets last week after colliding with Nikola Jokic. The Lakers initially branded the injury as “foot soreness” but internally feared that the All-Star forward might need a procedure. After putting the player through a number of tests in recent days, the team now feels the surgery won’t be necessary and is referring to Davis’ condition as “a stress injury.”
If Davis manages to get back on the reported timeline, that would be great news for the Lakers. He has been by far their best player, averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. He has also put himself in the conversation for NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
The Lakers are already finding out that life without Davis is quite hard. They are currently on a three-game losing streak that dropped their record to 13-19.

]]>Davis seemed to tweak his right foot after his lower leg collided with Nikola Jokic as the two bumped into each other midair during the first quarter. Davis was unable to return to the game following the halftime break.
A source close to the matter disclosed that Davis is experiencing discomfort in his right foot and is likely to undergo an MRI for further evaluation.
Lakers coach Darvin Ham confirmed that Davis has already received X-rays at the arena and that further information on his condition is expected on Saturday.
“I don’t want to speak on it until I know exactly what’s going on,” Ham told reporters. “I’ll know more tomorrow.”
This is the latest in a series of injury concerns for Davis. Over the past two seasons, the player has missed more than half of the Lakers’ regular-season games. Davis appeared to be in better shape this season, however, playing in 24 of Los Angeles’ 27 games to date.

]]>James’ absence from the Raptors’ game is his seventh of the season, having missed two weeks in November due to a groin strain. He initially tweaked his ankle against the Indiana Pacers last week before aggravating the injury in games against the Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Wizards.
“A lot of players that play at that elite level, a lot of times you just have to save them from themselves,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said of his decision to rest James on Wednesday night.
Davis missed the defeat to the Raptors due to flu symptoms that resulted in his early exit from the Lakers’ loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. According to Ham, Davis felt dehydrated and too drained to continue playing, thereby leading to his second-quarter exit. He was administered fluids and medications after leaving the game.
The Lakers have two games left in their six-game road trip: they face the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday before going head-to-head with the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.

]]>According to the team, Davis had a fever during the afternoon leading up to the game. The player was removed from the game during the first half and was administered fluids and medications by the Lakers’ training staff. The team stated that Davis’s illness is not Covid-related.
“His temperature went over a 100, I believe it was 101 and some change,” Ham revealed. “He said he was going to try and give it a go, which he did. But he just felt too weak, just too drained — dehydrated a little bit. But it’s that time of the season, in terms of wintertime, weather change, change of climate — coming from L.A. going to these different places.”
Davis’s status ahead of the game against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday remains undecided. He joined the team on its flight to Toronto on Tuesday night and is expected to be evaluated during Wednesday’s training in order to determine if he is match fit.

Davis has been a key member of the Lakers’ success this season, averaging 33.4 points on 64.4% shooting, 17.6 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks in his first five games this season. Before injuring his left calf, Davis scored 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 3 blocks during the Lakers’ win on Friday.
The 29-year-old player’s power forward/center has struggled to remain fit over the past two seasons, missing the majority of both seasons’ games due to injury. This is the second time that Davis has been sidelined this season, the first time being on October 28 against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to lower back tightness.

]]>For the Western Conference, the reserves will be the Utah Jazz’s Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, the Los Angeles Clippers’ Paul George, the New Orleans’ Pelicans Zion Williamson, the Phoenix Suns’ Chris Paul, and the Portland Trailblazers’ Damien Lillard.
It should also be noted that the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis was selected to be a reserve as well, but due to an injury will be substituted by the Suns’ Devin Booker.
Over on the Eastern Conference, here’s how the reserves will look. Brooklyn’s James Harden was an obvious choice, along with the Philadelphia 76ers’ Ben Simmons. The Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown also got the nod, with the Chicago Bulls’ Zach Lavine, the Orlando Magic’s Nikola Vucevic, and the New York Knicks’ Julius Randle getting invited as well.
This will be the first All-Star game for some, including the Pelicans’ Zion Williamson and the Knicks’ Julius Randle.
The NBA All-Star game reserves are selected by the head coaches of the NBA teams, so it’s certainly not a popularity contest, rather selections based on merit alone. The game will be played on March 7th.

]]>However, Harden didn’t just lead the Nets to victory. He also broke a new franchise record in the process.
With 23 points and 11 assists on the night, Harden was able to snag his 11th straight double-double, breaking the original Brooklyn Nets’ franchise record for consecutive double-doubles. This feat was also Harden’s 19th overall points-assists double-double of the season, which is the most in the entire league.
Harden has proven that he’s more than just a scorer, helping four other Nets players score in double-digits. Even though he’s only just joined the team, there is obviously some real chemistry at play.
Laker superstar LeBron James shined with 32 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, but couldn’t scrape away with a victory. The other Laker All-Star, Anthony Davis, sat out due to injury. However, to be fair, Nets superstar Kevin Durant also sat out.
Nevertheless, this highly-anticipated battle between these two heavyweights was a great one, and people will certainly be giving the Nets some serious respect after this game.

]]>The defending champions, led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, fought a hard battle but clearly didn’t want the victory as badly as the Clippers did.
The Clippers came out of the gate strong, leading the Lakers at the end of the first quarter 39-19. But their massive lead wasn’t meant to last, with the Lakers clapping back with a dominant quarter of their own. At halftime, the score was neck in neck at 56-54.
Paul George led the Clippers’ second-half dominance, scoring 26 out of the 33 points he scored on the night. Superstar Kawhi Leonard chipped in with 26 points of his own.
The Lakers’ James and Davis chipped in 22 and 18 points, respectively, which isn’t great for their usual standards. However, one silver lining for the Lakers lay in the performance of their new acquisitions this summer. Montrezl Harrell, a former Clipper big man, put up 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Lake Show, while Dennis Schroder added 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists.
Nevertheless, these valiant efforts from the new Laker pickups weren’t enough to overcome the Clippers’ impressive first outing this season.
The final score was 116-109 in favor of the Clippers, which should give them a real confidence boost after their upset elimination in last season’s playoffs.
