Major League Soccer might soon welcome another former Manchester United star. This time, its Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia who could follow the footsteps of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Wayne Rooney.

Ecuador media outlet StudioFutbol reported on Tuesday that Valencia is on his way to MLS with Inter Miami CF, D.C. United and LA Galaxy being among interested teams. Montreal Impact was also mentioned as one of the 35-year-old player’s suitors, but they are now reportedly out of the running.

Valencia would probably be a bargain acquisition for either team, considering that he would come as a free agent. He spent the past two years with Ecuadorian powerhouse LDU Quito, appearing in 32 contests and contributing with one goal and three assists.

Antonio Valencia enjoyed a successful career in Europe, where he played more than 400 games with Villareal, Wigan, and Manchester United. He was most successful with United, winning two Premier Leagues and one Europa League with the club, among other trophies.

Valencia is currently captain of the Ecuador national team, having made his debut in 2004. He has 99 appearances and has scored 11 goals on the international level.

Manchester United has officially kicked off the process of rebuilding their roster after a disappointing 2018/19 Premier League campaign. United announced on Friday that they have released 14 players, including regular starter Ander Herrera and team captain Antonio Valencia.

Herrera leaves Manchester after five years, during which he played a total of 189 games for the club, scoring 20 goals and providing 17 assists. The 29-year-old Spaniard won’t be without a club for long as he previously agreed to a contract with Ligue 1 champions PSG.

Valencia, on the other hand, played 10 seasons on Old Trafford and contributed to Manchester winning two Premier League titles. He played a total of 339 games with the team, and served as a captain in the past season. The list of clubs that are interested in his services include Arsenal, West Ham, and Inter Milan.

Besides Herrera and Valencia, Manchester United also released the following players: James Wilson, Millen Baars, Tyrell Warren, Callum Whelan, Matty Willock, Joshua Bohui, Zachary Dearnley, Callum Gribbin, DJ Buffonge, Regan Poole, Tom Sang, and Matthew Olosunde.

Spanish attacking midfielder Juan Mata is also on an expiring contract but has an extension offer from the team. Mata will reportedly decide on his future in the next few days.

Man United also saw one arrival on Friday, when they officially signed winger Daniel James from Swansea. James joined in a transfer worth around $19 million.
