Ex-Man Utd Star Antonio Valencia On His Way to MLS

Major League Soccer might soon welcome another former Manchester United star. This time, its Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia who could follow the footsteps of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Wayne Rooney.

Ecuador media outlet StudioFutbol reported on Tuesday that Valencia is on his way to MLS with Inter Miami CF, D.C. United and LA Galaxy being among interested teams. Montreal Impact was also mentioned as one of the 35-year-old player’s suitors, but they are now reportedly out of the running.

Valencia would probably be a bargain acquisition for either team, considering that he would come as a free agent. He spent the past two years with Ecuadorian powerhouse LDU Quito, appearing in 32 contests and contributing with one goal and three assists.

Antonio Valencia enjoyed a successful career in Europe, where he played more than 400 games with Villareal, Wigan, and Manchester United. He was most successful with United, winning two Premier Leagues and one Europa League with the club, among other trophies.

Valencia is currently captain of the Ecuador national team, having made his debut in 2004. He has 99 appearances and has scored 11 goals on the international level.
