French star forward Antoine Griezmann is expected to delay his arrival in MLS until 2026. According to Football Espana’s Ruben Ulia, Griezmann decided to play at least one more season with La Liga giants Atletico Madrid before coming to the United States.

Griezmann publicly spoke about his desire to play in MLS on several occasions in the past. This started to look like a real possibility this summer after LAFC reportedly engaged in advanced talks with his representatives at the beginning of 2025 and felt increasingly optimistic about their chances to bring Griezmann.

However, Griezmann, who has one year left on his contract with Atletico after this season, had a change of heart. Remaining a prominent piece in Diego Simeone’s team, he wants to have one more run in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League and then move on.

Still, Griezmann doesn’t want to stay with Atletico at all costs. If he ends up feeling that his playing time will diminish next season or that the club would benefit from shedding his wages in the summer, he will turn once again to MLS.

Despite turning 34 in March, Antoine Griezmann has been a key player for Atletico in their challenge for the La Liga title this season by scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He also added six goals and two assists in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances.
