The post Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger on His Rehab: “It’s Going Really, Really Well” appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>In a recent chat with The Athletic, Roethlisberger said that he and the doctors used this opportunity to “dial back” his rehab process in order to avoid any potential setbacks.
“Now that we don’t have those (practices), we took a step back and backed up a week,” said Roethlisberger. “We said let’s just make sure and slow it down some more and take it even a step slower.”
According to the 38-year-old signal-caller, however, his recovery is going really well.
“It’s going really, really well, though,” he added. “The doctor is very ultra-conservative moving forward. We’re just trying to be smart, and putting the brakes on me a lot because I was kind of ‘Go, go go.’ You know me, trying to get back out there.”
Ben Roethlisberger injured his elbow in the first half of the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. While there were some reports that he might return at some point in the season, Steelers decided to take a conservative approach and sideline Roethlisberger for the rest of the season.
Steelers ended up missing the playoffs last year, with Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges taking turns as starting QB.

]]>Roethlisberger suffered an elbow injury in September, which required him to undergo a season-ending procedure. He was projected to return in time for next season, but in recent weeks, rumors surfaced that the 37-year-old signal-caller might not play football again.
These rumors captured the attention of Roethlisberger himself, who recently went on Twitter to clear any doubts about his future in the NFL.
“Contrary to recent reports out there about my football future and my ‘uncertainty’ about playing again, I am working hard and am more determined than ever to come back stronger and better than ever next year!” Roethlisberger wrote on Twitter.
While Pittsburgh Steelers are still in the playoff hunt, needing a win against Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 to get in, the team obviously misses Ben Roethlisberger. Following Roethlisberger’s injury, Steelers turned to Mason Rudolph, who was the third-round-pick in 2018. However, Rudolph struggled as a starter, so the team ended up benching him for undrafted rookie Devlin Hodges.
Hodges got off to a hot start but ended up throwing two early interceptions in Week 16, which got him benched for Rudolph. He re-entered the game shortly after being benched, however, as Rudolph suffered a season-ending shoulder injury.

]]>After being humiliated in a loss to New England in Week 1, the Steelers got doubly bad news on Sunday after losing to the Seahawks, and, more importantly, losing starting quarterback Ben Roethlsiberger for the rest of the 2019 season.
The veteran starting quarterback was injured in the first half of Sunday’s game and was ultimately unable to play in the second half, being replaced by backup quarterback Mason Rudolph. Roethlisberger clutched his right elbow after throwing a couple of passes in the half before the team decided to not let him play in the second half.
The team performed tests on Roethlisberger’s elbow on Monday and found that their quarterback suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow. The Steelers informed Roethlisberger that the injury can only be treated with surgery, which will cause him to miss the rest of this season.
The injury is brutal for the Steelers, who have relied on the 37-year-old as their first-string quarterback for the better part of the past two decades.
Rudolph, a second-year player out of Oklahoma State with minimal NFL experience, will take over as Roethlisberger’s replacement for the rest of the season and look to surprise as he tries to turn around the team after their slow start to the year.

]]>“Ben Roethlisberger sustained a hit today in practice,” – said Tomlin in a brief statement released through the team. “He is being evaluated by team doctors as part of the concussion protocol.”
According to reports from the scene, Roethlisberger suffered the hit during a seven shots segment of practice when he ran into right tackle Marcus Gilbert and linebacker Keion Adams.
After spending some brief time on the ground, Big Ben got up and talked with teammates and trainers before being walked out of the stadium.
“It happened so fast. I saw his head whip back,” – Gilbert described the event. “I’ve got to see the film to see what happened. That’s my guy. No one wants to see anything happen to him, especially in a practice like this, coming to work and going and not tackling.”
Coach Tomlin ruled out Ben Roethlisberger from the upcoming preseason game against Green Bay Packers even before this hit, so it is expected that he will have enough time to recover from this unfortunate event.
Against the Packers, Steelers’ offense will be run by rookie third-round pick Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs, who was a fourth-round selection in 2017.
