If the NFL offseason was to go on as planned, Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would already be in action. But after the offseason activities were suspended due to an ongoing health crisis, Roethlisberger decided to focus on rehabbing from elbow surgery he underwent last year.

In a recent chat with The Athletic, Roethlisberger said that he and the doctors used this opportunity to “dial back” his rehab process in order to avoid any potential setbacks.

“Now that we don’t have those (practices), we took a step back and backed up a week,” said Roethlisberger. “We said let’s just make sure and slow it down some more and take it even a step slower.”

According to the 38-year-old signal-caller, however, his recovery is going really well.

“It’s going really, really well, though,” he added. “The doctor is very ultra-conservative moving forward. We’re just trying to be smart, and putting the brakes on me a lot because I was kind of ‘Go, go go.’ You know me, trying to get back out there.”

Ben Roethlisberger injured his elbow in the first half of the Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks. While there were some reports that he might return at some point in the season, Steelers decided to take a conservative approach and sideline Roethlisberger for the rest of the season.

Steelers ended up missing the playoffs last year, with Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges taking turns as starting QB.
