The Boston Celtics have reportedly locked their guard Jrue Holiday to a new contract. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Holiday signed a four-year, $135 million extension with the franchise.

Holiday was in the final year of his contract and had a player option for 2024-25 that was worth $37.3 million. He is currently averaging 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists while shooting a career-high 43.1% from behind the arc.

By signing Holiday on a new deal early on, the Celtics got a discount and avoided getting into a bidding war to keep him in the summer. The player, on the other hand, took less money than he would likely command on the open market in exchange for long-term security.

Holiday joined the Celtics in an offseason blockbuster trade from the Portland Trail Blazers, where he spent just several days after being involved in a trade that sent superstar Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks. He has made a big impact in Boston, especially on the defensive end, and is part of the reason why the Celtics have the best record in the NBA this season.

Holiday, who was a first-round pick in 2019, previously also played with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans. He has two All-Star nods and five-time NBA All-Defensive selections while winning the NBA title with the Bucks in 2021.

Boston Celtics’ TD Garden is becoming a place where opposing teams come to lose. The Celtics beat the visiting San Antonio Spurs 117-98 on Wednesday night, extending their home winning streak to 20 games in the 2023-24 NBA season.

The Celtics are yet to lose at TD Garden this season and haven’t suffered a loss at home in 27 consecutive games regular-season games. This is the team’s longest home winning streak since it won 33 straight games between December 1986 and November 1987.

Missing starters Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White, the Celtics saw stars Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Jaylen Brown, each score 21+ points. Role players Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser also stepped up with their contributions from the bench.

Speaking about the home winning streak, Celtics’ head coach Joe Mazzulla said his goal was to build a connection between the team and the home fan base.

“The goal has been to build a connection and identity with the city and with the team, to where they give us this lift and this level of this support that they have when we play a certain type of way, Celtics basketball. We’ve done that for the first 20 games at home. That’s been the goal, “Mazzulla said.

The Celtics will have an opportunity to extend the winning streak on Friday night when they welcome reigning NBA Champions Denver Nuggets.

The Boston Celtics are adding a well-known basketball figure to their front office. According to Brian Robb of the MassLive, the Celtics have hired ex-Houston Rockets head coach and former ESPN color commentator Jeff Van Gundy as a senior consultant for the 2023-24 season.

Robb reports that Van Gundy will be part of the team’s basketball operations and will split his time between the Celtics and their G League affiliate Maine Celtics.

The Celtics haven’t made the hiring official yet, but head coach Joe Mazzulla already confirmed it in a chat with reporters on Saturday.

“Anytime you can add high-character, professional people, I think it’s a no-brainer. Fortunate enough that he’s here, not just for the coaching staff, but everybody,” said Mazzulla of Van Gundy.

Jeff Van Gundy entered the NBA in 1989 as an assistant with the New York Knicks. He spent seven years on the position before being elevated to the head coaching position following the departure of Don Nelson in 1996. Van Gundy spent five full seasons with the Knicks, making the playoffs in each one of them and leading the team to an NBA Finals trip in 1998.

Van Gundy resigned as the Knicks’ head coach 19 games into the 2001-02 season and was away from basketball for a year and a half before being hired by the Houston Rockets. He spent four seasons in Houston, making three playoff appearances but failing to advance past the first round.

After he left the Rockets, Van Gundy started his broadcasting career with ESPN. He went from being a guest analyst to color commentator before being fired this past summer as part of the network’s job cuts.

The Boston Celtics have locked their newly-acquired center Kristaps Porzingis to a new extension. The team made an announcement on Wednesday but didn’t disclose any terms of the agreement.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the extension is worth $60 million and will keep Porzingis for an additional two years in Boston. The 27-year-old player previously opted into his player option for 2023-24, which comes with a $36 million salary. This basically means that Porzingis now has a $96 million deal that runs through the 2025-26 season.

Porzingis joined the Celtics this summer in a trade with the Washington Wizards as part of the three-way deal that saw Marcus Smart go to the Memphis Grizzlies. By locking Porzingis to a long-term deal earlier than later, Boston hopes the Latvian big man continues to build on his stellar 2022-23 campaign and be a bargain down the stretch.

Porzingis had one of his best campaigns as a pro last season, averaging a career-high 23.2 points per game. He also added 8.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Another positive thing for both the Celtics and Porzingis is that he was mostly injury-free. He ended up playing 65 games during the regular season, which is his most since his sophomore season in the league.

The Boston Celtics’ star Jayson Tatum put up a spectacular performance in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers to lead his team to a 88-112 win. Tatum finished the game with 51 points and helped the Celtics to secure a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics are back in the conference finals for the third time in four seasons. There, they will face the Miami Heat, who previously beat the New York Knicks in six games in the other East semifinals matchup.

Tatum previously struggled in must-win Game 6, shooting 5-of-21, but had his teammates step up to extend the series against the 76ers. On Sunday night, however, it was Tatum who took charge, with his 51 points being the most in Game 7 in NBA Playoffs history. He also added 13 rebounds and five assists without committing a single turnover.

“I was really excited just for the moment, to be able to come out and play today,” Tatum said after the game. “It definitely was on my mind that I had played as bad as it could get for 42, 43 minutes. We have a saying, ‘It’s only up from here.'”

The Boston Celtics also had Jaylen Brown score 25 points, and Malcolm Brogdon add 12 points off the bench. No other Celtics player was in double digits.

The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, saw their star players struggle to make an impact. Joel Embiid, who was named NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season, finished the night with 15 points and eight rebounds. His fellow All-Star James Harden managed just nine points and shot the ball 3-out-of-11.

The Celtics play their next game on Wednesday night, welcoming the Heat in their TD Garden.

Watering flowers can be a dangerous activity if you are an NBA player. Just ask Boston Celtics’ All-Star forward Jaylen Brown.

Earlier this week, Brown was watering flowers at his home when he accidentally knocked down a glass vase. While picking up the shards, the 26-year-old suffered a cut on his shooting hand and ended up needing to get five stitches.

The accident will now cost Brown the remainder of the regular season. However, he is expected to be available to start the playoffs and won’t have any lingering issues by then, according to Boston’s head coach Joe Mazzulla.

The Celtics would probably sit Brown for the last game of the regular season either way. They are locked as the number two seed in the Eastern Conference, and the result of their matchup against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday will have no significance for the team in terms of standings.

Jaylen Brown played 67 games in 2022-23 and delivered his best statistical season. His minutes per game (35.9), points (26.6), field goal percentage (49.1), and rebounds (6.9) are all career-high. Brown also earned an All-Star nod in 2023, his second since he entered the NBA as the third overall pick in 2016.

Al Horford has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Boston Celtics, his agent Jason Glushon of Glushon Sports Management confirmed on Thursday. The $20 million extension will begin in the 2023-24 season.

Currently, the Celtics center is in the final year of a four-year, $109 million contract. By approaching Horford with this extension, Boston is preventing a repeat of what happened in 2019, when Horford left the team for a more lucrative free agency offer.

In what is now his second tenure with the Celtics, Horford has revived his career. He contested 437 shots in the NBA playoffs in 2022; the most in the league. He is also one of five players to contest 400 shots or more since tracking began over a decade ago.

A five-time All-Star, Horford is averaging 10.9 points and 6.3 rebounds in 31 minutes a game this season. His importance in the Celtics’ attacking lineup has been amplified following the injury of starting center Robert Williams III. Currently, Horford has the third-highest shooting percentage among centers, with 55.5% from the floor and 48.8% on three-pointers.

The number three overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, Horford spent nine seasons at the Atlanta Hawks before joining Boston in 2016 on free agency. He then joined Philadelphia in 2019 before spending a season at Oklahoma City and then rejoining the Celtics in 2021.

The new NBA season officially tipped off on Tuesday night, but it appears little has changed compared to the last one. The most recent NBA finalists, the Boston Celtics, and the Golden State Warriors, are still good and look like championship contenders once again.

In the first game of the new season, the Celtics faced the Philadelphia 76ers and walked away with a 117-126 win. Then the Warriors celebrated the 2022 NBA title at their Chase Center before blowing out the Lakers 109-123.

The Celtics, playing for the first time under rookie head coach Joe Mazzulla, fell behind in the first quarter before finding their way back before the half. Boston then came out of the locker room with a dominant third quarter, in which they outscored Philly by 10, to set up a comfortable lead that they managed to hold onto in the fourth.

The best player for the Celtics on Tuesday was forward Jayson Tatum, who finished the contest with 35 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow All-Star Jaylen Brown also scored 35.

On the other hand, James Harden had 35 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for the 76ers, while Joel Embiid added 26 points and 15 rebounds.

The Warriors received their NBA title rings on Tuesday and then proceeded to dominate the Lakers throughout the entire game. Golden State entered the fourth quarter with a 20-point lead before getting a bit too comfortable toward the end of the contest and allowing the LA team to make the score more bearable.

Stephen Curry scored 33 points for the Warriors, while Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson added 20 points and 18 points, respectively.

The Lakers saw a near triple-double from LeBron James, who finished the night with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. Anthony Davis added 27 points, while Russell Westbrook had 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Six-time NBA All-Star Blake Griffin will play for the Boston Celtics next season. Griffin reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the franchise on Friday.

Griffin spent the past season with the Brooklyn Nets. He played a limited role in 2021-22, averaging 17.1 minutes on the floor and putting up 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.

According to ESPN’s insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Griffin’s deal with the Celtics is fully guaranteed.

Despite Griffin losing the athleticism that made him one of the best power forwards in the league at one point, his size and experience should prove beneficial for the Celtics. Boston’s frontcourt is riddled with injuries at the moment, with center Robert Williams III set to miss up to two months after knee surgery and forward Danilo Gallinari is out for the season after tearing his ACL.

Blake Griffin was drafted first overall in 2009 by the Los Angeles Clippers. After missing his rookie season due to a knee injury, Griffin went on to get five consecutive All-Star nods between 2011 and 2015 while also making the All-NBA teams four times.

Griffin left LA midway through 2017–18 as part of the Clippers’ rebuild and ended up with the Detroit Pistons. He spent three years in Detroit, earning another All-Star nod, before being bought out by the franchise towards the end of the 2020–21 campaign. He later signed with the Nets.

Throughout his NBA career, Griffin averaged 19.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.1 points per game.

The Boston Celtics center Robert Williams III will be out of action for 8-12 weeks after undergoing surgery on his left knee, the team announced on Friday.

Said to be done in order to “remove loose bodies and address swelling in his left knee,” this is Williams’ second surgery on his left knee this year. The center underwent a partial left knee meniscectomy on March 30 after incurring a torn meniscus. Although he returned to action for the Celtics’ victory against the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA playoffs, recurring soreness and swelling resulted in Williams being ruled out of action yet again.

With Williams’ earliest return date being after Thanksgiving, he could potentially remain unavailable until the Christmas period. This is a major blow for the Celtics, with the team’s league-leading defense being crippled by yet another injury.

Boston also announced that Danilo Gallinari underwent knee surgery as well for an injury setback incurred back in August when he tore his ACL. Having signed a two-year, $13 million contract in July, Gallinari was expected to provide the Celtics with a much-needed boost alongside bench option Malcolm Brogdon.
