Bayern Munich managed to win another Bundesliga title despite all the drama surrounding them through the 2022-23 season. Bayern were crowned Bundesliga champions on Saturday for the 11th consecutive season following a dramatic final day of the campaign.

Bayern entered their last match in second place, trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by a single point. They needed to get a win over FC Köln away and have Dortmund lose or draw against Mainz at home. And both things happened.

Winger Kingsley Coman scored a goal in the eighth minute to give Bayern a lead before Dejan Ljubicic made it 1-1 in the 81st minute from a penalty kick. Talented forward Jamal Musiala made it 1-2 for Munich club in the 89th minute, and it proved to be a title-winning score.

Meanwhile, Borussia was trailing 0-2 at the half and didn’t manage to do enough to turn things around. Raphael Guerreiro scored in the 69th, and Niklas Sule scored a goal for the draw in added time, but it wasn’t enough to give Dortmund its first title since 2011–12.

Bayern Munich had to work hard to keep its dominance in the Bundesliga this season, being uncharacteristically sluggish for the better part of the campaign. Sensing a potential crisis, the club parted ways with manager Julian Nagelsmann and brought in Thomas Tuchel as his replacement.

Tuchel had a rough start, which included an unceremonious exit from UEFA Champions League, prompting many to question Bayern’s decision to change managers. However, the former Chelsea boss ended up doing just enough to keep Bayern’s impressive streak going.

Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastian Haller will undergo further surgery in an effort to eradicate a testicular tumor. Haller first discovered the tumor while away at a training camp in July.

“As planned from the beginning, different possibilities were considered following the chemo. I tell you that the fight is not over for me,” Haller said. “I will have to undergo an operation to permanently end this tumor which keeps me away from the pitch.”

Since discovering his tumor, the 28-year-old striker has been sidelined from football. He has been undergoing chemotherapy in the months following as part of his treatment plan.

Haller arrived at Dortmund during the summer transfer window, with the Bundesliga team paying a fee of €31 million to Eredivisie side Ajax for the Ivory Coast star.

According to Haller, this surgery should assist him to return to the pitch. The striker delivered a stellar performance with Ajax last season, scoring 34 goals in all competitions, including 21 in the Eredivisie and 11 in the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke has announced that the club is open to allowing midfielder Jude Bellingham to leave the club during the next summer transfer window if he wishes. The 19-year-old midfielder is a top transfer target for a range of clubs, among which are Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

Watzke explained that the club cannot compete with other elite clubs when it comes to offering the highest wages to Bellingham and thus understands should the player decide to depart the Bundesliga team.

“We will hold talks now, as soon as [the World Cup in] Qatar is over, and then we’ll have a fundamental talk about what he would like,” Watzke stated. “He just needs to tell us if he’d like to stay or if he’d like to go. In both cases we’ll talk about it very pleasantly and reasonably together. In general we can imagine that he’d stay with us, but we can’t behave as if this topic wasn’t on the table.”

Bellingham’s current contract with Dortmund is valid through 2025. While his going transfer fee is expected to be in the region of €100 million the English midfielder could fetch as much as €150 million depending on how heated the race for his signature becomes.

German Bundesliga might be the first major sports competition that will allow fans to attend games after the coronavirus pandemic outbreak. According to Associated Press, the league is planning to begin opening stadiums next month.

The 36 teams from the first two tiers of German soccer competition had a virtual meeting on Tuesday on which they devised a pathway to letting fans back at the stands. The final decision, however, will depend on the health situation in the country as well as the approval of regional and local authorities.

According to the plan, the fans would not be allowed to drink during games or watch the action on standing sections of the stadium. Also, only home fans would be allowed on games until the end of the year, in order to minimize the health and safety risks that come as a result of traveling and overcrowding. The attendance numbers will be determined provisionally by each club.

Prior to this, Borussia Monchengladbach opened their training ground for fans for the first time since March. The club allowed 300 fans to attend while requiring each of them to wear a mask and hold the proper distance.

Germany is set to kick off the 2020/21 season in early September with Cup games. Bundesliga, on the other hand, will begin on September 18th.

German Bundesliga was the first European soccer league to resume its competition after suspension due to coronavirus pandemic. Over the weekend, it also became the first to officially wrap up its 2019/20 season.

While Bayern Munich secured the title several weeks ago, Bundesliga remained entertaining until the very end. This was thanks to the fact that the final UEFA Champions League participant and teams heading to 2. Bundesliga were still undetermined.

At the top, Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig already secured their Champions League tickets, but Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen were still aiming for the last one. Monchengladbach needed the win against Hertha Berlin in order to get the spot, while Leverkusen could get in with the win of their own and Monchengladbach’s draw or loss.

Leverkusen did their part, defeating Mainz 1-0, but it wasn’t enough at the end. Monchengladbach got the 2-1 win against Hertha and secured the 4th position with 65 points.

At the bottom, it was Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf trying to get to No.16 and secure a chance to stay in the Bundesliga. Fortuna entered the final matchday with an upper leg, needing only to draw in order to secure the position. However, they suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Union Berlin and will receive an automatic relegation since Werder trashed Koln with 6-1.

Werder will now face Heidenheim, third-place team in 2.Bundesliga, in a playoff game that will determine who will play in Germany’s top division next summer.

Among other curiosities, Bundesliga’s final matchday saw Bayern’s Thomas Muller set a new assist record. Muller finished the season with 21 assists, after setting up Kingsley Coman for the opening goal in the 0-4 win against Wolfsburg.

Also, Timo Werner scored twice in his final game with RB Leipzig before leaving for the Premier League side Chelsea. Werner climbed to 95 goals for Leipzig, which made him club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

German soccer powerhouse Bayern Munich claimed its eighth consecutive Bundesliga title on Tuesday night after holding on to defeat Werder Bremen by a 0-1 final score.

Their road to victory widened the gap between Bayern Munich and second-place Borussia Dortmund to ten points, making it impossible for the runners-up to catch up to the champions in what is left of the season.

Robert Lewandowski’s 43rd-minute goal, which came after a sublime pass from Jerome Boateng to the Polish striker in the box, was enough to mark the difference between the Bavarians and Werder Bremen, which is currently in relegation positions.

Bayern Munich got a bit of a scare in the second half when left-back Alphonso Davies was shown a red card in the 79th minute of the match. Legendary keeper Manuel Neuer denied Werder Bremen of an equalizer with a spectacular one-handed save to clinch the title for his team.

The last time that a team other than Bayern Munich won the German league was all the way back in the 2011-12 campaign when Borussia Dortmund took home the title. This Bundesliga crown is the 29th for Bayern Munich since the reunification of the German league in the 1960s.

Now, the team’s focus and attention will turn to the August return of the Champions League, a title that they last won in 2013.

The list of sports competitions canceled due to coronavirus is getting bigger by day. Following several days of playing without an audience, the majority of soccer leagues around Europe now decided to suspend them for an extended period of time.

The wave of suspension first hit the United States, with NBA, NHL, and MLS getting suspended on Wednesday. On Thursday, the trend was carried over to Europe, with English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Seria A, and French League 1 being on the list of the leagues that halted their activities. European competitions like UEFA Champions League and Europa League also won’t be played in the foreseeable future.

There is no clear indication when the activities of the leagues might resume, but it is expected that things will go back in normal once coronavirus pandemic gets under control. English Premier League, where Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea’s winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive on coronavirus, announced that the suspension would last at least until April 3rd.

German Bundesliga, on the other hand, intended to continue with competitive matches at first. The league announced on Thursday that the matches would be played as scheduled, but without the audience. However, the decision was changed the next day, and this competition was also suspended.

The Philippe Coutinho saga at Barcelona has finally come to a (temporary) end.

After a season and a half of disappointing play at the Catalan club after being inked for a club record $160 million, Bayern Munich has secured a loan deal for the young Brazilian superstar for the 2019-20 season.

The German giants have paid Barcelona $9.1 million for the rights to Coutinho for this season, and they hold a $133 million purchase option at the end of the season if they want to make the Brazilian’s move permanent.

Coutinho fell out of favor in Barcelona after a sluggish 2018-19 season which saw him score only 11 goals in 54 matches. The 27-year-old often looked frustrated and lost in Ernesto Valverde’s squad, with a lack of confidence certainly affecting his overall play.

The Rio de Janeiro native was considered one of the most productive attackers in world soccer when he joined Barcelona from Liverpool in January of 2018. Coutinho scored 14 goals in 36 games with the Reds in a breakout 2016-17 campaign, and then got off to a hot start with the club the next season, which saw Barcelona bid for his services.

For now, though, Coutinho isn’t wanted in Barcelona, and he’ll have to use this chance with the reigning Bundesliga champions if he wants to put the shine on what was once a brilliant career.
