Despite an up-and-down regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs showed once again that they are at their best when it matters the most. The Chiefs got a 17-10 win over the favored Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday to clinch their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years.

The Chiefs opened the game by scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions and followed that up with a field goal to end the first half with a 17-7 lead.

The Chiefs’ defense took the driving seat in the second half, making key plays to keep the Ravens in check. Corner L’Jarius Sneed first saved a touchdown by punching out the ball from the hands of Baltimore’s wideout Zay Flowers as he was about to reach the endzone.

Veteran safety Deon Bush followed that up by intercepting Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson in the red zone to keep the Chiefs with a two-possession advantage with less than seven minutes left on the clock.

The Ravens managed to score a field goal late in the game but never got the ball back as the Chiefs ran down the clock and launched a huge celebration.

“You don’t take it for granted,” said Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the game. “You never know how many you’re going to get to or if you’re going to get to any. So it truly is special just to do it with these guys after what we’ve been through all season long. Guys coming together, it really is special. But I told them, ‘The job’s not done.’ Our job now is to prepare ourselves to play a good football team in the Super Bowl and try to get that ring.”

The Kansas City Chiefs will now face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII. It marks the rematch of the Super Bowl LIV, which the Chiefs won 31–20 to claim their first title in five decades.

The Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt stood by his team’s decision to trade Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. This comes as the Chiefs and the Dolphins are set to face each other in Germany on Sunday, the first time that Hill will face his former side.

“I think that was a trade that worked out well for both parties,” Hunt commented. “Obviously, Tyreek is an incredible player and has done very well in his time with the Dolphins.”

Hill has proven to be an impactful player for the Dolphins, fitting in seamlessly with head coach Mike McDaniel’s offense since his arrival. The wide receiver set franchise records of 119 receptions and 1,710 yards for Miami in 2022. Having already surpassed 1,000 yards this season, Hill is on course to break the league’s single-season mark with the Dolphins sitting atop the AFC East and closing in on a playoff berth.

During his absence, the Chiefs are expected to replace Bolton with Drue Tranquill, who filled in for him when he was absent for three games earlier in the season with an ankle injury. Tranquill currently leads the Chiefs with 37 tackles this season and also has 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t wait for too long to find their new offensive coordinator after Eric Bieniemy left to take the same position with the Washington Commanders. The franchise announced on Friday that they filled the OC position with former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Naggy.

Naggy spent the 2022 season as the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach and senior offensive assistant. This will be his second stint as offensive coordinator in Kansas City after holding the same position in 2016 and 2017.

The Chiefs were one of the best offenses in the league in the past five years, with Bieniemy as OC. But despite the success he had with the franchise, including winning two Super Bowl titles, Bieniemy opted to join the Commanders. His decision was motivated by the fact that he would be able to run his own offense and call plays in Washington, something he wasn’t able to do in Kansas City.

Matt Nagy started his coaching career in NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, serving in various roles on head coach Andy Reid’s staff. When Reid left the Eagles in 2013 and took over the Chiefs, Nagy followed him as quarterbacks coach and was later promoted to the OC role.

Ahead of the 2018 NFL season, Nagy was hired as the Chicago Bears’ head coach. He found immediate success with the Bears, leading them to a 12-4 record and an NFC North title in his first season in charge. However, he was unable to maintain this success in the following years and was fired after posting a 6-11 record in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has revealed his intention to continue coaching the team going into the 2023 season. “If they’ll have me, I’ll stick around,” he confirmed after his side lifted the Super Bowl LVII trophy, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35.

Since arriving at the team, Reid has led the team to three Super Bowls in four years, winning Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the next season.

According to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Reid’s decision regarding his future is not a difficult one to make. “He’s done so many great things for so long. But I can tell by how much he enjoys this that that’s not anywhere in the near future.” He furthermore stated that the 64-year-old Reid has “every right to retire”.

The 14th coach in NFL history to win at least two Super Bowls, Reid has ignited a golden era with the Chiefs. Now, Kansas City is listed as the favorite to win next year’s Super Bowl as well. Should the team achieve this feat, then Reid would become just the fourth head coach to win three Super Bowls.

The Kansas City Chiefs veteran quarterback Chad Henne announced his decision to retire from the NFL following his team’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night.

Henne did not appear in the game, however, it seemed as if he may receive an opportunity to come onto the pitch when first-choice quarterback Patrick Mahomes aggravated his right ankle injury late in the first half.

“Calling it a career. Capping it off with @budlight and another ring,” Henne wrote on Instagram, thereby confirming his retirement decision.

The 37-year-old player has been with Kansas City for four seasons, also winning Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. Despite mostly playing backup to Mahomes, Henne did play a major role in the Chiefs’ Divisional Round victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading a 98-yard touchdown drive.

Henne was introduced to the NFL in 2008 when he was selected as a second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins. He played four seasons with the Dolphins and five with the Jaguars before signing for the Chiefs in 2018.

The Kansas City Chiefs punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night by beating the Cincinnati Bengals 20-23 in the AFC Championship game. This will be the third Super Bowl appearance for the Chiefs in four years.

The Chiefs entered the Bengals game banged up, having their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes battling a sprained ankle and All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce dealing with a back injury. On top of that, Cincinnati seemed to have Kansas City’s number, beating them in the previous three matchups, including the AFC Championship showdown last year.

But despite the setbacks, which ended up including multiple injuries to their wide receiver corps, the Chiefs managed to show why they were the No. 1 seed in AFC. Their defense came up strong, intercepting Cincinnati’s QB Joe Burrow two times and sacking him five times.

Playing from a great field position for the better part of the game, Mahomes and co. managed to do just enough to get through. This included a game-winning drive in the final minute that showed how dangerous the Chiefs’ offense could be in crunch time.

With the game tied at 20-20, the Chiefs got the ball back with 0:30 left on the clock at their own 47 yards. Following a short gain on the first two plays of the drive, Mahomes managed to scramble and get the first-down yardage before being pushed by the Bengals’ defensive end Joseph Ossai while out of the bounds. Ossai was flagged for unnecessary roughness, giving Kansas City 15 extra yards.

The penalty set up a 45-yard field goal for kicker Harrison Butker, who drilled the ball between the uprights and sealed the win for the Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs will now face the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl LVII. The Eagles secured the spot earlier on Sunday after beating the San Francisco 49ers in a 7-31 blowout.

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to add depth to their injury-prone offensive line by signing veteran guard Patrick Omameh.

According to reports around the league, Omameh won’t be added to the team’s active roster right away. Instead, he will join the Chiefs’ practice squad.

This is the third stop for Omameh this season after spending time with the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints earlier in 2020. The 31-year-old veteran made six appearances for the Raiders, playing on both the offensive and special teams. He didn’t get to see the field with the Saints.

It isn’t a surprise that the Chiefs picked up Omameh because he can play multiple positions on the O-line. Over the course of his NFL career, he lined up as a right guard and left guard but also saw playing time on tackle.

Patrick Omameh entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Michigan. He suited up for six different organizations since then, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars. As a pro in the NFL, he’s played 87 games and started 57 times.

Kansas City Chiefs have added depth to their secondary on Wednesday by signing veteran safety Tedric Thompson on a one-year deal.

Thompson spent the 2019 season with Seattle Seahawks, starting six games and contributing with 18 tackles and two interceptions. He spent the last two months of the year on an injured reserve with a shoulder injury before being released by Seattle in March.

The deal was confirmed by Thompson’s agency DEC Management although the terms remained undisclosed.

Chiefs are considered relatively deep on the position, having All-Pro Tyrann Mathieu as a projected starting safety with rookie L’Jarius Sneed and veterans Juan Thornhill and Daniel Sorensen backing him up. However, Thornhill’s ACL injury in 2019 and Sneed’s inexperience played a part in the team deciding to add another veteran option as they prepared to defend the Super Bowl title in 2020.

Tedric Thompson was drafted by Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After a limited number of snaps in his rookie year, Thomson received more prominent time in 2018, starting 10 games as a free safety. This led to him having 57 tackles, one interceptions, one forced fumble and three pass deflection.

Kansas City Chiefs and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones reportedly agreed to a long-term deal. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday that Jones inked a four-year contract that could be worth up to $85 million.

Chiefs previously placed a franchise tag on Jones, and it seemed in recent weeks that the two sides are far apart from making an agreement. However, negotiations gained momentum in recent days and resulted in a new deal for the 26-year-old player.

While Chiefs haven’t made the official announcement, Jones confirmed the news on his social media.

According to Schefter, the base value of Chris Jones’ new deal is $80 million and includes $37 million up front and $60 million guaranteed for injury. Also, Jones can bag in an extra $5 million if he meets certain incentives.

Jones emerged as one of the best DTs in the league in recent years, earning Second-team All-Pro honors in 2018 and being selected to Pro Bowl last season. He racked up 136 tackles, 33.0 sacks, 20 pass deflections, two interceptions, and one touchdown since making his NFL debut in 2016.

By signing Jones to this massive extension, Chiefs are now the only NFL team that handed $60 million in guarantees to three of their players. The franchise signed defensive end Frank Clark to an extension with $62.3 million guaranteed last year, while also handing star quarterback Patrick Mahomes a 10-year extension with $140 million guaranteed in early July.
