Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic scored his 10,000th career point on Monday night, scoring a whopping 50 points to lift the Mavs to a 128-114 win over the Phoenix Suns. Doncic achieved his milestone in the first quarter, doing so quicker than any other player since Michael Jordan. He is also one of only four players in NBA history to score 50 points in a Christmas Day game.

“Always, when this kind [of] award comes with a win, it’s even more fun,” Doncic said after the game. “It was a tough road game, and we won. So, outside of the 10K and 50 points, we won the game. So, I’m really happy.” This was the 24-year-old player’s sixth 50-point game, with only Michael Jordan (nine) and LeBron James (eight) racking up more.

In addition to his 50-point haul, Doncic grabbed 15 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks against the Suns. This win sees the Mavs sit in fifth place in the Western Conference at 18-12. Dallas next plays against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night.

The Dallas Mavericks Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban has agreed to sell the majority stake in the franchise. The Mavs’ new owners will be billionaire Miriam Adelson and her casino and resort company, Las Vegas Sands Corporation.

Adelson and Dumont family, her partners at Las Vegas Sands, confirmed the agreement with Cuban in a statement shared on Wednesday.

“The Adelson and Dumont families are honored to have the opportunity to be stewards of this great franchise,” said the statement. “Through our commitment and additional investment in the team, we look forward to partnering with Mark Cuban to build on the team’s success and legacy in Dallas and beyond.”

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the sale values the Mavericks at $3.5 billion. The agreement will see Cuban retain a stake in the franchise while also retaining “full control of basketball operations.”

Mark Cuban bought the majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks in 200 for $285 million. During his tenure as the owner of the team, the Mavs made the playoffs in all but five seasons. They made two NBA Finals trips and won an NBA title during the 2010-11 season.

The deal with the Adelson and Dumont families allows Cuban to cash in on the Mavericks at a time when the valuation of NBA teams is at an all-time high. He does that while still remaining involved in the basketball side of the franchise, which was likely one of the big reasons he accepted the deal.

The Dallas Mavericks’ decision to sit their key players in a 115-112 loss to the Chicago Bulls didn’t sit well with the NBA. According to NBA spokesperson Mike Bass, the league has officially opened an investigation that will look into the details of the Mavs roster and game decisions for Friday night’s game.

The Mavericks needed to get a win against the Bulls in order to remain in the playoff hunt in Western Conference. But instead of getting their best team out there, Dallas opted to sit five of their key players, including star guard Kyrie Irving. The franchise superstar Luka Doncic ended up playing in the first two quarters before being benched for the rest of the game.

The belief around the league is that the Mavericks opted to throw the Bulls game in order to maximize their draft position. Dallas owes this year’s pick to the New York Knicks as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade, but it will only convey if it lands outside the top 10. If the Mavs, currently having 10th-best lottery odds, get a pick that sits in the top 10, they will keep it.

Entering the last game of the regular season, Mavericks is at No. 11 in the West with a 38-43 record. They could slide to No. 12 if they lose against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday and Utah Jazz win their game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“The NBA commenced an investigation today into the facts and circumstances surrounding the Dallas Mavericks’ roster decisions and game conduct with respect to last night’s Chicago Bulls-Mavericks game, including the motivations behind those actions,” Bass told media on Saturday.

The Dallas Mavericks have NBA title aspirations this season, yet they just suffered a shocking 127-105 loss to tanking Charlotte Hornets on Friday night that dropped them out of the Play-In position. This resulted in the Mavs fans treating their team with some loud boos, something that Mavs head coach Jason Kidd says they have the right to do.

Midway through the third quarter of the Hornets game, the Mavs fans booed their team after they fell 18 points behind to one of the worst teams in the league. You would expect boos to help Dallas to put in some extra effort, but it just attributed to a worse loss.

“Probably should have been booed in the first quarter, just the effort in the play,” said Kidd after the game. “They [the fans] have a right [to boo], they paid to see a better show. It wasn’t there until the second half. We can’t come out like that, especially this time of the year…”

The Dallas Mavericks have now lost seven out of their last 10 games and got their playoff chances in danger. They are sitting at No. 11 in the West with a 36-38 record and are out of the Play-In tournament. However, the Mavs can still turn things around, considering they are only one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves at No.8 and No. 7.

The Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving missed his team’s 118-109 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night as he battled issues with back tightness. This was the Mavs’ last outing before the All-Star game, which Irving has been selected to participate in.

Since joining the Mavericks in a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets, Irving has played four games, with Dallas obtaining a 2-2 record. Both games in which he and fellow All-Star Luka Doncic played together ended in single-digit losses. Currently, Irving averages 28.3 points and 7.0 assists in 38.5 minutes for his new team.

Leading up to the game, the 30-year-old Irving had not been an injury concern. He first appeared in the Mavs’ injury report on Wednesday mornings at which point he was listed as probable. He was downgraded to questionable little more than three hours before tipoff.

Wednesday’s game proved to be challenging for the Mavs without their new acquisition in their ranks. In his absence, the Nuggets’ Jeff Green stepped up to the plate, scoring a team-high 24 points while Nikola Jokic grabbed his 21st triple-double of the season.

The Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic lifted his team to a nailbiting 126-125 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, scoring a colossal 51 points to cap off a historic five-game run.

Doncic scored two rebounds and two free throws in the final 4.5 seconds, thereby handing Mavericks a last-minute comeback victory to further solidify their lead over the fifth-placed Sacramento Kings in the Eastern Conference standings.

“It’s incredible,” Mavericks center Christian Wood said in response to Doncic’s dominant performance against the Spurs. “In my seven years in the league, I’ve never seen anybody do what he’s able to do. He’s on an incredible run. He’s playing like an MVP. Clearly one of the best players in the league.”

This is the third time that Doncic has scored 50 points or more in the last three games, including a 60 point haul during the Mavs’ overtime victory over the New York Knicks on Tuesday night. As a result, Doncic becomes the first player in NBA history to 250 points, 50 assists, and 50 rebounds in five consecutive games.

The Mavericks next play the Houston Rockets on Monday night.

The Dallas Mavericks have moved to sign veteran guard Kemba Walker in an attempt to boost the team’s backcourt. The team will waive reserve point guard Facundo Campazzo in order to open a spot on the roster for the 32-year-old player.

A four-time All-Star, Walker has been training in Florida this season while awaiting the opportunity to be signed by an NBA team. He has been a free agent since mid-October following a decision by the Detroit Pistons to waive his contract.

Walker was traded to the Pistons from the New York Knicks on draft night in a cost-cutting move for the franchise. He averaged 11.6 points and 3.5 assists in 37 games last season for the Knicks.

Currently, Luka Doncic is the Mavericks’ standout star this season and is leading the NBA overall with 33.1 points per game. This statistic, however, has made opponents wary of the 23-year-old player as they continue to trap and double-team him in order to minimize his impact.

This is not the first time that Dallas has targeted the 32-year-old player. Walker was previously offered a contract by the Mavericks in 2019, however, he opted to rather sign for the Boston Celtics.

Despite still being an active player in WNBA, All-Star guard Kristi Toliver is already thinking about the next step in her career.  According to multiple reports, Toliver will join the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff for the 2021-22 season in the role of an assistant.

Toliver is currently a member of WNBA team the Los Angeles Sparks and is under contract through the 2022 season. She will reportedly continue playing for the Sparks while holding the job with the Mavericks.

Coaching in NBA won’t be a new experience for Toliver. The 34-year-old player already served as an assistant coach with the Washington Wizards for two seasons during her time while being a member of the WNBA’s Washington Mystics.

Kristi Toliver started her WNBA career in 2009 after being selected third overall by the Chicago Sky. She was traded to the Sparks for a second-round pick after just one season. In LA, she emerged as one of the better point guards in the league, winning the WNBA Most Improved Player award and helping the team win a title in 2016.

In 2017, Toliver in free agency and signed with the Mystics. She won another WNBA Championship and received two All-Star nods before returning to the Sparks ahead of the 2020 season.

By adding Toliver, Mavericks are continuing the process of revamping their organization. Earlier in the offseason, the team replaced NBA Championship-winning coach Rick Carlisle with Hall of Famer Jason Kidd while bringing in Greg St. Jean and Igor Kokoskov as assistants. Dallas also made changes in the front office, hiring Nico Harrison to oversee basketball operations after long-time general manager Donnie Nelson left the franchise at the end of the 2020-21 NBA Season.

The Dallas Mavericks will join the growing list of NBA teams searching for a new head coach. Rick Carlisle, who coached the team for the previous 13 years, announced on Thursday that he won’t return to the Mavs for the 2021-22 NBA season.

Carlisle’s announcement comes just a few days after Mavs longtime president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson left the franchise.

“After a number of in-person conversations with Mark Cuban over the last week, today I informed him that I will not be returning as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks,” said Carlisle in a statement. “This was solely my decision. My family and I have had an amazing 13-year experience working with great people in a great city.”

Mavs later confirmed the news, thanking Carlisle for his contribution to the franchise in a series of social media posts.

Rick Carlisle joined the Mavericks in 2008 and managed to lead the team to their first NBA title just three years later. He followed that up with six more playoff trips but never managed to get out of the first round again. Carlisle compiled a 555-478 record with Dallas and will leave the team as the winningest head coach in the franchise’s history.

Given the NBA title on his resume, Carlisle is expected to receive significant interest from NBA teams with a head coaching vacancy. The list includes the Boston Celtics, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, and Portland Blazers.

The Mavericks, on the other hand, are first expected to hire a new president of basketball operations before embarking on a head-coaching search.

After dropping two games to open the 2020-21 NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks bounced back impressively to beat the LA Clippers 124-73 on Sunday.

Mavs delivered a historic first half against the Clippers that saw them enter the third quarter with a 50-point cushion. This was the biggest lead in NBA history at halftime, beating the previous mark set by the Golden State Warriors. In 1991, the Warriors had 47 points against the Sacramento Kings at the half.

The game became more even in the second half, but the Mavs remained dominant and finished the game with a 51-point advantage despite playing the back-end of their rotation for most of the fourth quarter.

Dallas was led by All-Star Luka Doncic, who finished the night with 24 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists despite playing just 26 minutes. Josh Richardson and Tim Hardaway Jr. added 21 and 18 points, respectively.

“We showed who we are,” said Doncic after the game. “People judged us off the first two games of the season. It’s a long season, but we’ve got to keep going like that. We’ve got to play defense. That’s our specialty from now on.”

It was also a historic night for Clippers, who were playing without Kawhi Leonard and Marcus Morris. Their loss was the biggest in franchise history, topping the 50-point loss to Seattle Supersonics in 1988.
