]]>Jackson joined Philly for the second time ahead of the 2019 NFL season in a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The veteran, however, never managed to make an expected impact.
During the past two seasons, Jackson struggled with injuries and only managed to play eight games in total. This resulted in 23 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns.
Besides his inability to stay on the field, Jackson’s release was also influenced by the Eagles’ financial situation. Philadelphia will save around $6 million with the move, giving them a badly-needed relief as they attempt to get under the projected salary cap.
The Eagles are expected to release several more players in the coming days, including veteran wide receiver Alshon Jeffery.
DeSean Jackson was drafted by Philadelphia with the second-round pick in 2008. He spent six seasons with the franchise in his first stint, earning three Pro Bowl selections and one All-Pro nod during that time.
Jackson left Philly in 2014 and went on to play for the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay before returning home. He has 612 career catches for 10,656 yards and 56 touchdowns.

]]>While many assumed Jackson aggravated his injury, it turns out that the Eagles were just cautious with the 32-year-old. According to coach Doug Pederson, the team expects him to be fully fit in Week 11. Philly is on a bye in Week 10.
“Leading up to the game, he had been in his rehab, running, and felt really good,” – said Pederson. “He had a great week of practice and preparation and we had looked at the Bears game as a possible date for him to return and play. He felt good. It was something we had a lot of collaboration on, not only with our doctors but with DeSean to play in this football game. He was going to be limited, we knew that going in. He wasn’t going to play the full game. Everybody was comfortable with that decision.”
“But I fully expect him to be good in a couple of weeks,” he added.
Before leaving the game against Bears, Jackson had one catch for eight yards. In Week 1 against Washington Redskins, he had eight receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns
