NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had remained silent for some time with regards to quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has found himself without a job in the league since the 2016 season.

The former Super Bowl quarterback, who spent seven seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, found himself at the center of a controversy related to civil rights issues. Many of his supporters claim that the league has “blackballed” him thanks to the controversy surrounding his actions.

Now, it appears, however, that Commissioner Goodell would like to see a team take a chance on signing the quarterback, who is still only 32 years old.

In a special on ESPN which aired on Monday night, the commissioner stated, “Well, listen, if he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it’s gonna take a team to make that decision. But I welcome that, support a club making that decision and encourage them to do that.”

He went on to say that in the event that a team doesn’t offer him a contract, “If his efforts are not on the field but continuing to work in this space, we welcome him to that table and to help us, guide us, help us make better decisions about the kinds of things that need to be done in the communities.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Kaepernick will get the chance to return to the league that he has long hoped for, but the commissioner’s green light seems to be a positive step towards that goal.

Florida State found itself with no other option than to fire head football coach Willie Taggart after one and a half disappointing seasons and a 27-10 loss to in-state rivals Miami on Saturday.

Taggart, who signed with the Seminoles after leaving Oregon following the 2017 season, lasted only 21 games with the team that committed to him by giving him a six-year contract worth over $30 million.

Florida State, who went 9-12 under Taggart’s tenure and missed out on a bowl game last season for the first time since 1981, had to raise $17 million dollars in order to pay the buyout on their former head coach’s contract in order to dismiss him.

After some help from private donations and the realization that the former Oregon, Western Kentucky, and South Florida head coach wasn’t cut out for the Noles job, the team pulled the plug on Taggart’s tenure on Sunday.

Florida State’s athletic department is now expected to embark upon a nation-wide search to find Taggart’s replacement. In the meantime, assistant coach Odell Haggins, a 26-year veteran on the team’s staff, will take over as interim head coach and look to lead the team to two more wins and a bowl game.

In an unexpected move on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals decided to cut bait with cornerback David Amerson, releasing him into the NFL’s free agent pool.

Not many people expected Arizona to make this move considering the team’s lack of depth in the secondary. Amerson was expected to be a starter in the Cardinals’ defense next season while Patrick Peterson serves a suspension for the first six games of the season.

Instead, the Cardinals decided that they preferred to release the veteran cornerback and clear way for younger players such as rookie Byron Williams to start during Peterson’s absence.

Robert Alford, who the Cardinals signed to a three-year deal in the offseason, is expected to start in the other cornerback slot next season.

Amerson will surely be a serviceable find for whichever team picks him up after his release. While he is not a superstar, the North Carolina State graduate had started 5 games for the Cardinals after they signed him in the middle of last season. He’s spent six seasons in the NFL, compiling a total of 234 tackles and 9 interceptions.

Now, Amerson will look to the free agent market for a new team and the Cardinals to look to their younger options at cornerback to take the veteran’s place.

The summer is always a busy time in the world of football, bringing news of new takeovers and transfers to millions of fans who are always interested in every detail of the next season.

The shareholding organization Qatar Sports Investments, which is the current owner of the French team Paris Saint-Germain F.C, shows interest to buy the British team Leeds from the Italian owner Andrea Radrizzani.

The reports say that the Italian businessman Radrizzani is going to meet the billionaire president of Qatar Sports Investments Nasser Al-Khelaifi in Doha for advanced talks about the possible purchase of the team that lost the Derby in the play-off semi-finals last year.

It is rumored that Leeds are in talks with as much as six other potential investors besides 45-year-old Al-Khelaifi, who bought PSG eight years ago in 2011 and became famous around the world for spending large amounts of money on star players.

A deal like this would give SGO owners a direct route into English football, something they’ve craved for a long time now. The French publication L’Equipe claims that the QSI has been in negotiations with Leeds for months now and that they have also set eyes on Nottingham Forest as another possible target.

After long and complex negotiations, the Seahawks and Russell Wilson have finally agreed to a deal.

Wilson has signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension with the team that makes him the highest-paid player in the NFL.

The contract also includes a $65 million signing bonus which Wilson will receive up front.

Wilson announced the news first-hand just before a self-imposed midnight deadline that he had set for a new deal with the team with a video posted to his Twitter account.

In addition to making him football’s top earner, his new contract guarantees that he will stay in Seattle through the 2023 season.

The 30-year-old was granted a no trade clause in his new deal.

Wilson has become one of the most elite quarterbacks in the league over the past several seasons.

He led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl trophy after leading them to Super Bowl XLIII.

Wilson had arguably his best season as a pro in 2018, passing for 3,448 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only 7 interceptions. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth time in his career.

Seattle and Wilson can sleep peacefully now, knowing that they’re both set for the future.

After nine years of dominating his position and re-defining the concept of the modern tight end, Rob Gronkowski has decided to call it quits.

The former Patriots tight end announced his retirement from football on Sunday at the age of 29.

Gronkowski made his decision public in a reflective and emotional Instagram post published on his account.

View this post on Instagram

It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far. I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010. My life experiences over the last 9 years have been amazing both on and off the field. The people I have meet, the relationships I have built, the championships I have been apart of, I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity I have been giving and learning the great values of life that I can apply to mine. Thank you to all of Pats Nation around the world for the incredible support since I have been apart of this 1st class organization. Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be. But now its time to move forward and move forward with a big smile knowing that the New England Patriots Organization, Pats Nation, and all my fans will be truly a big part of my heart for rest of my life. It was truly an incredible honor to play for such a great established organization and able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building success. To all my current and past teammates, thank you for making each team every year special to be apart of. I will truly miss you guys. Cheers to all who have been part of this journey, cheers to the past for the incredible memories, and a HUGE cheers to the uncertain of whats next.

A post shared by Rob Gronkowski (@gronk) on

Gronkowski will go down as one of the best players at his position in the history of the game. Since being drafted in the second round by the Patriots back in 2010, Gronkowski was named to five Pro Bowls and made four first-team All-Pro lists.

He finishes his career with 521 receptions, 7,861 receiving yards, and 79 receiving touchdowns. He even led the league in touchdown receptions one season, when he finished with 17 in 2011.

He also has three Super Bowl rings after winning the game with his team in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

The affable, fun-loving University of Arizona graduate had struggled with various injuries in recent years, possibly a factor that influenced his decision to call it quits. He suffered a thigh, hip, and lung injury in recent seasons.

Gronkowski might go down in history as the top tight end in the history of football. But now, that career has come to an end.

Max Unger dealt the New Orleans Saints a surprising blow Saturday after he unexpectedly retired from football.

Unger had a reputation as one of the NFL’s best centers, and was the leader of New Orleans’ excellent offensive line.

The University of Oregon alum played in the NFL for the past 10 seasons, making 3 Pro Bowls, including last season. He was also named a first-team NFL All Pro selection in the 2012 season.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Unger in the 2nd round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and he quickly established himself as a top center in the league. He played for Seattle for 6 seasons, winning Super Bowl XLVIII with the team.

The Seahawks then traded Unger to the Saints before the beginning of the 2015 season in exchange for a first round pick and tight end Jimmy Graham.

The Saints counted on Unger to anchor their offensive line, and he did well. Unger was a rock during his time with New Orleans, starting 67 of 68 games in four seasons.

The Saints now must look to fill Unger’s void at the center position via trade or free agency. By retiring, Unger will forfeit all of his $7 million salary for the 2019 season.

In what may end up being the most impactful and consequential move of the NFL offseason, one of the NFL’s top wide receivers is on the move.

The Cleveland Browns have acquired All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in a stunning trade with the New York Giants.

Beckham, who has been one of the NFL’s biggest stars since entering the league in 2014, joins a franchise on the rise that’s looking to do big things.

The Browns gave up a first-round draft pick, a third-round pick, and safety Jabril Peppers in exchange for Beckham.

Beckham signed a five-year, $95 million dollar contract extension with the Giants before the beginning of last season.

His list of accolades is impressive, having been named to the Pro Bowl three times and having won the NFL Rookie of the Year award in 2014.

Despite only playing in 12 games last season, Beckham caught 77 passes for 1,052 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Now, he’ll join an offensive attack led by quarterback Baker Mayfield and wide receiver Jarvis Landry that looks to be one of the strongest in the league.

The Cleveland Browns are a rejuvenated franchise now, and they look to be on the move to cement their position as one of the NFL’s top teams after years of irrelevance.
