The Bay Area will soon have another team that basketball fans can cheer for. According to Marcus Thompson of The Athletic, Golden State Warriors’ owners are finalizing a deal for a WNBA franchise.

Thompson reports that nothing is finalized yet, but there is an overwhelming optimism that the deal will be brought over the finishing line. If everything goes well, the official announcement is expected to be made at some point in October.

The Bay Area WNBA team would be located in Oakland, where the old Warriors practice facility is located.

However, they would play their home games at San Francisco’s Chase Center, just like the NBA team.

“We have had productive conversations with the WNBA and look forward to the possibility of being a part of the league’s expansion plans. However, it would be premature to assume any potential agreement has been finalized,” said the Warriors when reached out for comment by The Athletic.

Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob has deep ties with women’s basketball, having played a part in establishing American Basketball League as an owner of San Jose Lasers. However, the league only played two full seasons in 1996 and 1997 before folding midway through the 1998 season.

WNBA has been considering adding more teams to its 12-team league for a while now. The current plan is to get one or two new teams to join by 2025.

The Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is set to be re-evaluated on Saturday for his left shoulder subluxation. The Warriors are hoping that he will be able to return to action next Friday as the team gears up to face the San Antonio Spurs as part of a six-game road trip.

“He’s working out on the court, and the two-week mark to re-evaluate him this weekend,” Warriors general manager Bob Myers confirmed. “There have been no setbacks, so (Friday) would be a hope. That’s what we would be shooting for, something in that range when he could be back. He’s been, not contact, but out there doing all this stuff. He looks like the same guy. He’s got a sleeve on his shoulder and arm.”

Curry injured his shoulder during the Warriors’ 119-125 loss to the Indiana Pacers on December 14 when he bumped into the Pacers’ Jalen Smith in the third quarter.

Wednesday night’s 122-119 loss to the Detroit Pistons sees the Warriors go 6-5 without their star point guard. The team now finds itself within reach of a playoff spot. Ranked ninth in the Western Conference, the Warriors are tied with the eight-placed Phoenix Suns and are a game behind the sixth-placed Los Angeles Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr has expressed his desire to consider rotating his team in an effort to find the most effective lineup to help return the San Francisco-based team to winning ways.

Since lifting the NBA Championship five months ago, the Warriors’ performances have declined drastically, with the team sitting fourth from the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 3-6 record.

“We have to save us because nobody else is coming,” Kerr remarked following his team’s 130-129 loss to Orlando Magic on Thursday night. “We’ve had nine games now, so we’ve had a decent look at combinations. It’s time to try something different.”

The Warriors’ main issue appears to be the performance of their bench players. The five regular starters—Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevon Looney, and Andrew Wiggins—have a plus 24.1 net rating, making them the best of any starting lineup that has played at least 75 minutes together this season.

According to Green, the Warriors desperately need to change their defense. On the other hand, the player views the partnership between Thompson and Curry as the strongest aspect of the Warriors’ game. While Curry scored a game-high 39 points against Orlando, Thompson contributed 27 points with 10-of-24 shooting.

Kevin Durant stunned the basketball world at the beginning of this week when he announced that he was leaving the Golden State Warriors to sign with the Brooklyn Nets in free agency.

Despite his departure, the Warriors appear to harbor no bad feelings after announcing that they plan to retire his #35 jersey after playing only three seasons with the franchise.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob published a press release after learning of Durant’s decision, and the team’s head man had nothing but positive things to say about the veteran superstar. It’s not surprising that there isn’t any bad blood considering the things that Durant accomplished during his brief time in Oakland.

Durant arrived to the team in the summer of 2016 and immediately made an impact. In his first year with the Dubs, he was named an All-Star and also led the Warriors to the NBA title, being named Finals MVP in the process.

It was more of the same for the 30-year-old the next season when he partnered with Steph Curry to lead the team to its second consecutive title and gathered another Finals MVP trophy.

All in all, Durant averaged 25.9 points per game during his three years in the Bay Area and led the franchise to two NBA titles. He’ll be honored as a team legend after Monday’s decision, and rightfully so.

Not many people expected it going into the series, but the Western Conference semi-finals between the Warriors and Rockets is now tied up after 4 games.

Houston evened the series after a tight 112-108 win at home against the Golden State Warriors, showing that they have the mettle to push the back-to-back defending NBA Champions to their limits.

James Harden, once again, put his team on his back with a 38 point performance. The bearded slasher shot 17 three-pointers and made 6 of them. It wasn’t his most efficient performance, but it was a typical Harden. He scored in volume and got the job done.

Harden’s barrage was enough to withstand the Warriors’ two-pronged attack of Kevin Durant and Steph Curry. Durant, with 34 points, and Curry, with 30, kept things close all night, but ultimately couldn’t overcome Houston in the game’s final stretch.

Harden got help from Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker, who scored 20 and 17 points, respectively. Tucker also grabbed 10 rebounds, turning in a double-double performance.

Now, with the series tied at 2 apiece, this matchup could go either way.

The two teams will meet for a pivotal Game 5 showdown on Wednesday night in Oakland.

Will the Warriors finally meet their match?

When the final whistle blew at the Oracle Arena after Game 1 of the Western Conference semi-final matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets, the clash hadn’t ended.

Golden State defeated Houston by a 104-100 final score to win Game 1 of the series. However, in the post-game press conference, the Rockets were irate due to a perceived lack of fair officiating during the game.

Rockets star James Harden stated that he simply wanted a “fair chance” in the series. Houston coach Mike D’Antoni claimed that the referees admitted to having missed calls in the first half at the midway point of the game.

The Warriors had their fair share of complaints too, with Draymond Green claiming that he had been fouled during the game and that the refs hadn’t called anything.

In any case, the Warriors did enough to win Game 1, lousy refereeing or not. Golden State superstar Kevin Durant scored 35 points to lead the way for his team. All of the Warriors’ starting five finished with at least 13 points.

James Harden matched Durant’s total with 35, but it wasn’t enough to do the job for Houston in Game 1.

Game 2 will take place on Tuesday night in Oakland.

While few might’ve expected the Golden State Warriors-Los Angeles Clippers series to go to six games, Golden State took care of business, even if it took a little longer than expected.

The Warriors beat the Clippers 129-110 on Friday night to win Game 6 and advance to the next round of the playoffs.

The underdog Clippers gave the Warriors a harder challenge than they expected. After winning Game 5 at Oracle Arena, Golden State had to hit the road again to play in LA for Game 6.

Despite resistance, Kevin Durant and the Warriors were simply too much for the Clippers to handle. Their talent won out in the end.

Durant had one of the greatest performance of his career on Friday night, scoring 50 points in the Warriors’ win. No matter what defense LA tried against the forward, nothing worked. The total was Durant’s career-high for points in a playoff game.

Steph Curry added 24 points of his own and dished out 6 assists in the win.

Golden State now advances to the Western Conference semi-finals two square off against the Houston Rockets. There, two pairs of superstars will battle it out as Durant and Curry face off against James Harden and Chris Paul.

The top-seeded Golden State Warriors got off to a good start in their defense of the NBA title.

The back-to-back champions of the league took a 121-104 win over the Los Angeles Clippers in the opening game of their first-round matchup against the West’s #8 seed.

While Golden State won comfortably in the series opener at Oracle Arena, things got testy late after Warriors forward Kevin Durant and Clippers guard Patrick Beverly were ejected in the 4th quarter.

After a hard foul on Durant, the Warriors forward reacted by shoving Beverly. The referee decided to take control of the situation by dismissing both players from the game.

Durant scored 23 points before his ejection.

Steph Curry led the high-octane Golden State offense with a masterful 38 point performance. He hit 8 of 12 three-point attempts and also collected 15 rebounds and 7 assists.

Despite starting on the bench, the top performer of the day for the underdog Clippers was Montrezl Harrell. The bench forward scored 25 points and collected 9 rebounds.

The Warriors are heavy favorites to advance past Los Angeles and into the next round, where they would face the winner of the series between the Rockets and Jazz.

The two top teams in the NBA’s Western Conference standings showed off in a must-watch game on Friday night at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Golden State dispatched the Denver Nuggets by a 122-105 final score, cementing their status as the team to beat come playoff time in the West.

In addition to the psychological message sent by their win, the victory also increases the Warriors’ chance for the number one seed in the playoffs.

They now own a 2 game lead over Denver for the top spot in the conference with only 17 games left in the season.

The key to Golden State’s victory was undoubtedly guard Klay Thompson’s performance.

Thompson, who had missed the Warriors’ two previous games with knee soreness, returned to make 9 three-pointers and score 39 points despite Denver’s best efforts to slow him down.

Kevin Durant turned in a big and ultra-efficient performance of his own, shooting 10-15 from the field and scoring 27 points.

While the West race isn’t over yet, the Dubs’ win increases their odds to finish the season as the conference’s top seed.

The two-time reigning champions have had a turbulent season at times this campaign, but their win on Friday reminded rivals that any route to a championship will go through them.
