Tom Brady, the most accomplished player in NFL history, confirmed his decision to retire from professional football after 22 seasons in the league. Brady made the announcement on Tuesday via a statement posted on his official social media.

“This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,” Brady, who spent the past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, wrote on Instagram. “I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”

ESPN reported the news about Brady’s retirement late last week, but the Buccaneers and those close to the legendary quarterback insisted that he still hasn’t made the final decision. The 44-year-old followed this up by saying that he’ll reveal his plans for the future “when the time’s right” while making an appearance on the “Let’s Go!” podcast. The time ended up being right less than 24 hours later.

“I’ve done a lot of reflecting the past week and have asked myself difficult questions,” Brady added. “And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it’s best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes.”

Tom Brady entered the league as the New England Patriots’ sixth-round pick in 2000. He went on to win six Super Bowl rings with the franchise while winning three NFL MVP honors as well. Brady then left New England in 2020 to sign with the Bucs and managed to lead the franchise to a Super Bowl win in his first season in Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers were eliminated in the NFC’s divisional round this postseason.

Brady is widely viewed as the greatest quarterback in NFL history and holds almost every passing record there is. He retires with 84,520 passing yards, 624 passing touchdowns, and a career completion percentage of 64.2.

Anyone who’s followed the NFL at all over the last couple of decades knows that Tom Brady’s performance takes on a new meaning during the postseason. And this is now proving to be true regardless of the team that he suits up for.

After leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs this season, and ending a 13-year franchise playoff drought in the process, Brady led them to a 31-23 victory over the Washington Football Team on Saturday.

This postseason win marks Brady’s 31st throughout his career. Years ago, he broke the record for most career playoff wins when he passed San Francisco 49ers quarterback legend Joe Montana who had 16. Now, Brady has nearly doubled that total.

But Brady’s postseason success is more than just the amount of playoff wins he’s racked up. After defeating Washington this weekend, they became the 17th franchise that Brady has ousted in the playoffs. In other words, not only has Brady nearly doubled Montana’s career playoff wins—the number of different teams he’s beaten in the playoffs has surpassed Montana’s total playoff wins!

This is not a knock on Montana in the slightest. He simply serves as a 2nd place marker to show how legendary Brady’s accomplishments are. If that’s how much better Brady is than Montana, think about how lopsided Brady’s accolades look next to other great quarterbacks.

Tom Brady is by far the greatest quarterback of all time, and probably the greatest NFL player we’ve seen as well.

Thanks to various impressive achievements during his NFL career, including six Super Bowl rings with New England Patriots, Tom Brady is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback that ever played the game. However, not everyone agrees with this statement.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ great and current NFL analyst Terry Bradshaw recently talked about Brady during his appearance on 97.3 the Fan and questioned his “GOAT” title.

“I don’t think he’s the greatest quarterback of all time,” said Bradshaw .”It’s hard to say. He may be the best quarterback we’ve had in the last 30 years. Is he better than [Roger] Staubach? No. Is he better than Dan Fouts? No. Dan Marino? No. I’m talking talent-wise when you’re putting all of it together.”

However, Bradshaw doesn’t have a problem with calling Brady “the best” in terms of accomplishments.

“Does he have more Super Bowls than anybody? Yes,” he added. “Therefore, he’s the best. I absolutely have no problem saying it.”

Terry Bradshaw was accomplished quarterback in his own regard, winning four Super Bowls with Pittsburgh Steelers between 1970 and 1983. He was two times Super Bowl MVP and has won the NFL Most Valuable Player award in 1978. Bradshaw currently works as a television sports analyst for Fox and hosts the network’s Fox NFL Sunday show.
