]]>Jackson will take over from Broderick Fobbs, who was fired back in November after disappointing results in 2021 that saw the team finish with a 3-7 record. Fobbs previously oversaw two consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference titles in 2016 and 2017.
Grambling State’s decision to get Hue Jackson as their new head coach should work well for the team, considering his experience that includes working 20 years in NFL on various positions. Jackson, on the other hand, joins an increasing number of football coaches who are perceiving college jobs as more attractive than those on the professional level.
Jackson is best known for his time as the head coach of the Browns, where he spent two and a half seasons before being fired in mid-2018. He left Cleveland with a 3-36-1 record with his stint, including the second winless season in NFL history following the 2008’s Detroit Lions.
After parting ways with the Browns, Jackson briefly joined the Cincinnati Bengals in an unspecified role. He spent the 2021 season with Tennessee State Tigers, working as an offensive coordinator.

]]>But, despite the fact that his reputation took a big hit after an unsuccessful stint with the Browns, Jackson told Pro Football Talk on Wednesday that he still “believes” there is a future for him as an offensive coordinator and head coach in the NFL.
“Oh, yeah, I mean I think I can,” Jackson said when asked whether he thinks he can be a head coach again. “I mean, just because the situation in Cleveland [didn’t work out] doesn’t mean that you can’t coach. There’s a lot of great coaches who came before me that coached there and went on and did great things. Sometimes, the situation is different. I think if people dig in and really take the time to look at the overall situation there, maybe they would understand it more.”
“To go back and be a coordinator again or be a head coach, I do believe it’s in my future. I’ve just got to go work through the process and see where it goes.” – he added.
Hue Jackson was fired as Cleveland Browns’ head coach in October following a 2–5–1 start of the season. Shortly after, he joined Cincinnati Bengals to serve as an assistant under head coach Marvin Lewis. After Lewis was fired at the end of the season, Jackson also left the franchise.

]]>“There is a certain way that the Cleveland Browns have to play, and we are going to earn our stripes,” said Jackson on Tuesday after Browns’ OTA practice. “The guys that put them on their helmets and get the chance to wear them, it is going to be because they demonstrate the characteristics that we are looking for in Cleveland Browns players. That is the way that they are going to play. That is how we are going to conduct ourselves and go out and win football games.”
The process of earning helmet stripes is rather simple. Player will earn them by making the team according to Jackson.
“Obviously, if you are on the team, you are going to have them,” – he said. “That is for sure. If you are not, you won’t. It is that simple. It is pretty simple. Kind of cut and dry.”
It looks like Hue Jackson intends to use every ace in his sleeve in order to make a well-respected NFL team out of Browns. He failed to do so in the last two seasons, winning only one game and losing 31 of them since joining the organization in 2016.
Cleveland Browns are wearing two brown and one white stripe on their helmets since 1960.
