The Indianapolis Colts confirmed that they will assess Zack Moss’s suitability to play in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints during the team’s warmups. The running back was listed as questionable ahead of the game due to a sore foot and an elbow setback.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the team will assess how Moss feels when he puts pressure on it pregame. Only then will they decide on his status.

Moss has proved himself to be a key part of the Colts’ lineup, becoming their lead rusher with 523 yards in six games on 114 carries. During the team’s narrow 39-38 loss to the Cleveland Browns, Moss made 57 yards while backup Jonathan Taylor made 75 yards.

All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor has reportedly requested a trade from the Indianapolis Colts. Taylor’s request comes after he didn’t receive a contract extension this offseason.

Taylor currently has one year left on his rookie deal that will pay him $4.3 million in base salary this upcoming season. He was hoping to land a lucrative new deal before the 2023 campaign starts, but the Colts never actually made him an offer.

Despite Taylor wanting out, that doesn’t seem like it will happen anytime soon. Colts’ owner Jim Irsay told the reporters that the team doesn’t intend to move the 24-year-old player.

“We’re not trading Jonathan… end of discussion. Not now and not in October!” said Irsay, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Jonathan Taylor emerged as one of the best running backs in the league in 2021. He led the league in rushing yards (1,811 yards) and rushing touchdowns (18) en route to receiving Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro honors.

However, Taylor failed to replicate his success last season, managing only 861 rushing yards and four rushing TDs. Part of this was his struggles with injuries, as he missed six games with ankle issues. Also, he averaged just 4.5 yards per carry compared to 5.0 yards per carry in his rookie season and 5.5 yards per carry as a sophomore.

Retired Pro Bowl quarterback Andrew Luck said on multiple occasions that he has no interest in returning to the NFL. However, that doesn’t seem to discourage teams from trying to change their mind.

The interest in Luck seems to be so strong that Jim Irsay, the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, with whom the player spent all of his seven seasons in the league, was prompted to issue a hands-off warning. Irsay recently went on Twitter to warn teams that inquiring about Luck represents a “clear Violation of the League’s Tampering Policy.”

Luck retired ahead of the 2019 NFL season with three years left on his six-year, $140 million contract with the Colts. This means that Indianapolis still holds Luck’s rights, so even if a team convinces him to return to professional football, they would have to work out a trade.

Irsay’s warning comes after reports that the Washington Commanders were trying to gauge Luck’s interest in returning to NFL. The Commanders reportedly contacted individuals close to the former player in 2022 but received a negative response.

It is worth noting that the Colts also tried to get Luck back on the field in the past, only for the 33-year-old player to reiterate that he’s done with football.

Luck made 86 starts with the Colts between 2012 and 2018, leading the franchise to a 53-33 regular season record. He was named to four Pro Bowls and won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award in 2018.

The Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard is set to be placed on injured reserve as his road to recovery from an offseason back injury suffered another setback. As a result, Leonard will miss at least four of the Colts’ remaining games.

Leonard stated that something “felt different” with his back and nerve-related issues during Wednesday’s workout, thereby prompting the player to end his session early. Interim head coach Jeff Saturday expanded on this, stating that the medical staff has performed scans on him and has evaluated him further to determine the root of the problem.

Several months ago, doctors confined that Leonard has been suffering from an impinged nerve in his back, thereby resulting in lower back pain for the linebacker. Prior to the latest development, Leonard felt as if he had been making smooth progress in his recovery.

“Each week I’ve felt better, starting from my first week of practice, not being able to move and being stiff,” Leonard stated. “In the past two games, I see myself moving around better. But we’re still not there. The nerve still isn’t firing in my calf.”

The Indianapolis Colts made a surprising decision to bench their starting quarterback Matt Ryan. According to the Colts head coach Frank Reich, the team will proceed with second-year signal-caller Sam Ehlinger playing under center for the remainder of the season.

Ryan suffered a shoulder separation in Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, but this hasn’t been the sole reason why the veteran is being sent to the sidelines. The 37-year-old player struggled mightily in his first season with the Colts, throwing league-leading nine interceptions and having 11 fumbles.

Speaking about his decision, Reich said that the team felt they needed to make a change in order to get out of the offensive rut. Indy’s 16.1 points scored per game is currently 29th in the NFL.

“Extremely difficult decision given the respect and admiration that we have for Matt Ryan, given what he’s brought here,” Reich said Monday. “He is a pro’s pro. This guy is special. We all know at the quarterback position that our poor production on offense is not on one person.”

Ryan, who was named NFL MVP in 2016, arrived in Indy this offseason from the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a third-round selection. He completed 68.4% of his passes throughout the first seven weeks with the Colts while throwing for 2,008 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Colts now hope that Ehlinger, a sixth-round pick in 2021, can provide them with a desperately-needed spark. The Texas Longhorns product had never attempted a pass during a regular season since coming into NFL but had a strong showing this postseason and was reportedly impressive during practices.

Ehlinger will make his first NFL start on Sunday against the Washington Commanders. Veteran Nick Foles will serve as his backup.

Any game with Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson, two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks, on opposing sides can’t be bad, right? Well, it turns out it can.

Ryan and Wilson both struggled in the Thursday Night Football clash between the Indianapolis Colts and the Denver Broncos, with neither signal-caller managing to score a touchdown. Not only that, but there were no TDs in the game, which the Colts won 12-9 in overtime.

Kickers instead took the spotlight. The Colts’ fourth-year kicker Chase McLaughlin made all four of his field goal attempts, including two 50+ yarders in regular time and a 48-yard field goal in overtime to get Indy the win. On the other hand, Denver’s veteran Brandon McManus made three FGs and had one field goal from 34 yards blocked.

Wilson had the best chance to get a TD score, leading his offense 70 yards down the field after McLaughlin kicked the field goal for the Colts’ lead in overtime. However, facing 4&1 on Indy’s 5-yard line, Wilson had his endzone pass to Courtland Sutton batted down by Stephon Gilmore.

In the end, both Ryan and Wilson had a game they want to forget. Ryan finished the game with 251 passing yards and two interceptions. Wilson was picked two times as well while throwing for 274 yards.

The win allowed the Colts to improve to a 2-2-1 record and remain in the race for the AFC South title. The Broncos are now 2-3 and sit third in the AFC West.

The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback room looks a lot more formidable in 2022 than last season. After trading for former MVP Matt Ryan to be their new starter earlier in the offseason, the Colts added a former Super Bowl MVP to serve as his backup.

The Colts announced on Monday that they had signed signal-caller Nick Foles. The veteran, who was released by the Chicago Bears earlier this month, inked a two-year agreement. The financial terms of the deal remained undisclosed.

The move will reunite Foles with the Colts’ head coach Frank Reich. The duo previously worked together in Philadelphia, where Reich was an offensive coordinator, and Foles quarterbacked the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII win. The chance to work again with Reich was probably determining factor in Foles’ decision to sign with Indy as he had multiple other suitors in recent weeks, including the Eagles.

Nick Foles arrives in Indianapolis after several seasons in which he struggled to perform at a high level consistently. Since leaving Philly after the 2018 NFL season, Foles suited up for Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears. The 33-year-old player started 12 games altogether for the Jags and the Bears, going 3-9 and throwing just 13 touchdowns compared to 10 interceptions. He failed to make a single appearance in 2022.

The injuries continue to be the story of the 2021 NFL season for the Indianapolis Colts. The team is forced to overcome the loss of another key player after starting safety Julian Blackmon tore his Achilles and will be out for the year.

Colts confirmed the news on social media, revealing that Blackmon suffered the injury during Wednesday’s practice.

Blackmon, the Colts’ third-round pick in 2020, had a promising start to his sophomore season. In six starts, he totaled 34 tackles while adding one pass defended and one forced fumble. He had two interceptions, six passes defended, and 42 tackles in 14 starts as a rookie.

After losing Blackmon, the Colts are now expected to get on the market and address the lack of secondary depth. The team currently only has three safeties on the active roster in third-year player Khari Willis, special teamer George Odum, and veteran Andrew Sendejo. The latter one isn’t a lock to play in Week 7 due to concussion.

Indianapolis struggled to stay healthy in 2021, having around 20 players spending some time on the injured reserve list since the training camp kicked off. The list of the players that are currently missing for Colts besides Blackmon includes veteran wideout T.Y. Hilton, linebacker Darius Leonard, and tight end Braden Smith.

The Indianapolis Colts still haven’t found a trade partner for running back Marlon Mack, but that might be just a matter of time. Mack is reportedly attracting interest from multiple teams lately, with the Kansas City Chiefs being one of them, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Mack recently requested a trade from the Colts as he isn’t happy with his role on the team. Indianapolis reportedly wants to do right by the 25-year-old player but still hasn’t found a deal that they like.

The Chiefs seem like a natural landing spot for Mack, considering they just lost their starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire and need depth on the running back position. They do have veterans Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon as options, but neither has a resume that matches Mack’s.

Marlon Mack enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Colts back in 2019, when he rushed for 1,091 yards and eight touchdowns. He was set to be the franchise’s back of the future at that point, but a torn Achilles in the 2020 opener changed the trajectory of his career. With Mack out, Indianapolis turned to Jonathan Taylor and never looked back.

Upon his return in 2021, Mack found that he isn’t even a primary backup as the Colts believe Nyheim Hines is better suited for the no.2 role due to his abilities in the passing game.

The Indianapolis Colts and their reliable running back Nyheim Hines managed to come to an agreement about a new extension. Hines got three more years added to his deal that now locks him with the franchise through the 2024 NFL season.

The Colts still haven’t made the official announcement about the deal, but Hines’ agents Jeremy Appledorf and Ed Wasielewski confirmed the agreement to ESPN’s Field Yates. Reportedly, the 24-year-old NC State product will earn $18.6 million from the deal that comes with $12 million guaranteed.

Hines’ annual salary of $6.2 million will move him in the top 10 highest-paid running backs in the league. He will also be the highest earner in NFL among backups on his position, considering that Jonathan Taylor is untouchable as a starter on Indianapolis’ depth chart.

Nyheim Hines entered the NFL as the Colts’ fourth-round pick in 2018. He played every game since then, with eight starts, and managed to rush for 893 yards and seven touchdowns. While these are not eye-popping numbers, Hines is also valuable for Indianapolis in the passing game.

Since becoming a pro, Hines racked up 170 receptions for 1,227 yards and six TDs. His 170 catches is six-most among all running backs in the past three years.
