Reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid continues to enter his name in the Philadelphia 76ers’ history books. Embiid scored 70 points in Monday night’s 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs and set a new franchise record.

The 76ers’ single-game points record was previously held by late Hall of Famer Wilt Chamberlain for more than 56 years. Chamberlain scored 68 points in 143-123 win over the Chicago Bulls in December 1967.

Embiid finished the night with 70 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists. According to ESPN, no player has ever had this type of statline in the history of the league.

“Obviously, Wilt accomplished … everything [in] the history of this league, and basketball in general,” Embiid said after the game. “So to be in the same conversation, that’s pretty cool.”

“It was just a great night,” he added. “I had it going. I mentioned a few times, a lot of teammates are extremely unselfish and they just kept giving me the ball, and I just finished it.”

Joel Embiid is once again one of the favorites for the NBA MVP award. Embiid is currently averaging league-leading 36.1 points per game while adding 11.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.9 blocks, and 1.2 steals.

Thanks to Embiid, the 76ers are currently third in Eastern Conference with 29-13 record and 4.0 games behind the leaders, Boston Celtics.

The Philadelphia 76ers might have to start their second-round series against the Boston Celtics without their superstar center Joel Embiid. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the knee injury that Embiid has been dealing with for the past two weeks turned out to be more serious than the 76ers expected.

Embiid got hurt in Game 3 of the first-round series versus the Brooklyn Nets and was originally diagnosed with a Grade 1 LCL sprain. However, further tests have shown that his knee is in worse condition and could keep him out of Game 1 of the Celtics series.

As Charania points out, Embiid has a history of playing through injuries, so there is still a chance that he could push to play versus Boston, considering how important every game is expected to be.

Speaking with reporters last week, Philly’s head coach Doc Rivers also hinted that Embiid wouldn’t be on the court for Game 1.

“I’ll say this, but if I was a betting man, I would probably say doubtful for at least Game 1. But we’ll see,” said Rivers.

Embiid is the favorite to walk away with the NBA MVP award after averaging 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists during the regular season. He had a slow start to the postseason but still managed to do enough to help the 76ers sweep the Nets in the first round.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid failed to extend his underrated winning streak against the Chicago Bulls. While Embiid put together another big performance with 37 points and 16 rebounds versus the Bulls on Monday night, it was still not enough for the 76ers to avoid a 109-105 double-overtime loss.

Embiid entered the game having never lost to the Bulls in his NBA career. He faced the famed franchise 12 times before and got a win each time. However, his supporting cast had an off-night, with fellow superstar James Harden shooting 2-14 and managing only five points. Embiid, who has now scored 30+ points in 10 straight games, fouled out in the second overtime.

The Bulls, on the other hand, were carried by their star trio of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic. They became the first trio of teammates in the 2022-23 season to have 20+ points and 3+ steals apiece, and the first trio to do it for Chicago since 1977-78.

The loss has ended the 76ers’ eight-game winning streak and prevented them from jumping over the Boston Celtics on the Eastern Conference standings. Philly remained the third seed, trailing the Celtics by half a game and the leading Milwaukee Bucks by three games.

The Bulls, on the other hand, solidified their spot in the Play-In tournament. They remain at No. 10 but now have two games in hand over the Washington Wizards at No. 11.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ big man Joel Embiid is looking like one of the best players in the league for the third straight season. But it seems that this is not enough to please the 76ers fans, at least according to Embiid himself.

Speaking with Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Embiid said that he believes fans in Philly want him to be traded.

“I don’t know,” Embiid told Fischer. “Sixers fans, they want to trade me.”

Fischer asked him whether he actually believed that, and Embiid surprisingly stood by his opinion.

“I do believe that,” he reiterated. “They want to trade me.”

Now, there are probably some 76ers fans who are somewhat disappointed in Joel Embiid, considering his lack of playoff success. However, the majority of the supporters most likely want to see him in Philadelphia for a long time.

Also, Embiid is known for his trolling tendencies, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is just messing with a demanding fanbase. After all, this isn’t the first time he mentions something similar.

“They probably wanted me to be traded, and the whole team sent down to the G League,” said Embiid after Philly started the season 0-3.

To his credit, Embiid is playing at a high level in 2022-23. In 19 games he played this season, he is averaging career-high 33.3 points and 4.7 assists while adding 9.7 boards.

76ers star Joel Embiid scored a career-best 59 points as he lifted his side to a 121-109 victory over the Atlanta Hawks at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night. In addition, Embiid racked up 11 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 blocks in 36 minutes of play.

“This is not about me,” Embiid said when interviewed about his achievement, continuing to explain that it is the team that helped him to score his highest-ever tally and ultimately secure the win. “I thought we had great spacing around everything we were doing. … Like I said, all the credit goes to my teammates,” Embiid continued.

As a result of his performance, Embiid became the first player since Tracy McGrady in 2006 to outscore both teams during the fourth quarter.

Embiid’s performance helped the 76ers return to winning ways after losing 95-104 to the Hawks in the reverse fixture. More importantly, it ensured that Philadelphia improved its record to 6-7, thereby keeping the team in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Philadelphia 76ers star center Joel Embiid has a ligament tear in his thumb and will require surgery to fix the issue. However, Embiid plans to play through injury and will delay the procedure until after the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

Embiid injured his thumb in Game 3 of Philly’s first-round matchup against the Toronto Raptors. The injury was first characterized as a sprain, but an MRI test showed a ligament tear.

The 76ers’ head coach Doc Rivers confirmed the nature of the injury while speaking with reporters but said that this changes nothing for Embiid.

“Treatment is the same. There literally will be no change,” said Rivers. “It’s just, we knew we thought what it was, and it was, so you just keep moving on.”

Embiid was on the floor for the Game 4 of the Raptors series and scored 21 points in the 110-104 loss. However, he failed to be dominant on the glass, grabbing just eight rebounds. The 28-year-old player himself later admitted that the injured thumb impacted his ability to get boards and affected his passing and free throw routine.

“I don’t know how to explain, but it’s whatever,” he added. “But the bigger story is that we lost the game, we weren’t able to close it out. And we got to do a better job.”

Joel Embiid is one of the finalists for the NBA’s MVP award this season. He led the league in scoring with 30.6 points per game during the regular season while also adding 11.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists on average.

This year’s NBA Most Valuable Player race is tighter than ever, but the Philadelphia 76ers’ superstar James Harden believes there is one player more deserving of the award than others. According to Harden, this season’s MVP is unquestionably his new teammate Joel Embiid.

During a recent chat with the reporters, Harden said that Embiid deserved the MVP honors with his winning “mindset” and performances on the floor.

“He deserves it, man,” Harden said. “I’ve only been here for a few weeks, but I already see his mindset. He wants to win. Some guys just want numbers, but he has both. He has the mentality of winning, and he scores the ball at a high level. I think he’s prepared himself, especially coming off last year, for this year to be one of his best years.”

Embiid was in the MVP conversation last season as well, but the award went to Denver Nuggets’ big man Nikola Jokic. However, instead of getting discouraged, the 28-year-old managed to add another level to his game.

In 59 games he played in 2021-22, Embiid is averaging league-leading 29.8 points per game to go with 11.3 rebounds and career-high 4.3 assists. He is also showing up on the other side of the ball, being recognized as one of the NBA’s best defenders.

Thanks to Joel Embiid’s performances, the Philadelphia 76ers remain in the chase for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They are third with a 45-27 record but trail only 1.5 games behind the top-seeded Miami Heat.

All-Star center Joel Embiid won’t be leaving Philadelphia anytime soon. Embiid agreed to a new supermax extension with the 76ers that will keep him with the franchise through the 2026-27 NBA season.

According to reports, Embiid’s new deal is for four years, and $196 million. It is fully guaranteed and includes a player option for the final year. The 27-year-old player still has two years remaining on the five-year, $148 million rookie extension he signed back in 2017.

The 76ers confirmed the agreement on social media but opted not to disclose the details of the contract.

Embiid became eligible for the supermax extension this summer after finishing second in the MVP voting for the 2020-21 NBA season and being selected to the All-NBA Second Team for the third time in his career. The past season was his best from a statistical standpoint, as he averaged a career-high 28.5 points. He also added 10.6 rebounds and 2.8 boards per contest.

Embiid also had a strong outing in the playoffs, averaging 28.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game despite playing with a meniscus tear. But this wasn’t enough for the 76ers to make a deep postseason run, as they got eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks in seven games in the Eastern Conference Semis.

After locking their franchise cornerstone, the Philadelphia 76ers will most likely turn their focus to All-Star point guard Ben Simmons. But it will be for another reason.

Philly is reportedly looking to trade Simmons after his poor playoff performances and has been actively shopping the 25-year-old guard. Several teams are reportedly interested in dealing with the 76ers but haven’t yet been ready to pay the asked price, believed to be a combination of picks and star players.

Philadelphia 76ers returned to a winning track on Tuesday night by claiming a massive 137-134 overtime win over Miami Heat.

The 76ers entered Tuesday on a three-game losing streak, struggling to cope with the absence of important players due to COVID-19. They faced the same problem against the Heat, but it didn’t matter at the end as Joel Embiid put Philly on his shoulder and delivered a monster performance to get his team the W.

Embiid was a scary matchup on both ends of the floor for Heat, putting up 45 points and 16 rebounds while also adding five steals and one block. He was especially productive in the third quarter when he scored 20 points and helped the 76ers erase a 13-point deficit.

Embiid also scored the tying basket to force the overtime and then continued to dominate down the stretch.

“There was no chance we were going down and losing four in a row,” said Embiid after the game. “So whatever, I had to do, whatever my teammates had to do, we did it, and we got the win.”

Embiid’s performance impressed basketball fans around the world but also his head coach Doc Rivers: “I thought, just his will, he willed this game for us tonight and so did other guys,” said the Philly head coach.

With this big win, the 76ers are now 8-4 and sit at No. 2 in the Eastern Conference, one game behind the Boston Celtics. The Heat, on the other hand, fell to 4-5 and are No. 8 on the standings.
