The post 49ers Give New Deals to QB Josh Rosen and RB Austin Walter appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Rosen landed with the 49ers late in 2020 after the team experienced multiple issues at the QB position during the regular season. The 23-year-old player didn’t get playing time last year but could get a more expansive role in 2021 if he continues to progress well.
Rosen, who was the No. 10 pick in 2018, suited up for the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins in the past. He is 3-13 as a starter and has thrown for 2,845 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions in his pro career.
Walter, on the other hand, spent most of 2020 on the practice squad. He saw limited action on offense and finished the season with just one rushing attempt. However, the 24-year-old player had 43 snaps on special teams and had five kick returns for 93 yards.
With these new contracts, look for both of these players to come back next season with a desire to prove themselves.

]]>Rosen started the offseason with the Miami Dolphins but couldn’t earn his place on the roster and was waived by the team in early September. The 23-year-old QB was eventually picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who then added him to their practice squad.
Meanwhile, the 49ers struggled with injuries at the quarterback position for the better part of the season, with starter Jimmy Garoppolo being out for a while with an ankle injury. To make matters worse, backup Nick Mullens suffered an elbow injury last week.
The team now finds themselves with third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard as the only viable option ahead for their game against the Cardinals on Sunday. Perhaps that’s why they elected to give Rosen a chance.
Rosen is expected to be a backup in the Cardinals game, but the former UCLA star could easily get a chance to play if Beathard struggles.
After a promising college career, Josh Rosen was projected to be one of the best quarterbacks in a draft class that also had Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson. But while all three others went on to become starters for their teams, Rosen struggled to show that he belongs in this league.
Rosen had a forgettable rookie campaign, struggling behind an atrocious offensive line. He finished the season with a 3-10 record while completing 55.2 percent of his passes for 2,278 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
The Cardinals decided to trade Rosen to the Miami Dolphins the following year, but he failed to do any better. In six games (three starts) in 2019 with Miami, Rosen threw for justĀ 567 yards and one TD while having five interceptions.
