The post Panthers Clear QB Room By Releasing Cam Newton and Trading Kyle Allen appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>Panthers’ have allowed Newton to seek a trade last week, but no NFL team was willing to give anything substantial for the 2015’s NFL MVP. Moving Allen proved to be a lot easier, as they received a fifth-round pick from the Redskins for the 24-year-old.
By moving Newton and Allen, the Panthers are now left with a clear quarterback situation. Teddy Bridgewater, who recently signed as a free agent, will be team’s starter for 2020, while last year’s third-round pick Will Grier will back him up.
Cam Newton should have plenty of suitors now that he’s a free agent, but only if he proves he’s healthy. Newton missed 16 games in the past two seasons, struggling with shoulder and foot injuries. This was one of the reasons why the team was not willing to surrender significant assets to get him.
When healthy, however, Newton is a game-changing quarterback. He is known for his mobility and has even improved as a passer in recent years. If he manages to land in the right kind of situation, with New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers being among options, there is no doubt that the 30-year-old can get his career back on track.
Kyle Allen, on the other hand, will get reunited with former Panthers’ head coach Ron Rivera in Washington. Allen is expected to fight for the starting spot with the 2019’s first-round pick Dwayne Haskins.

]]>This move comes after Allen mightily struggled in the past weeks, which caused the Panthers to lose any chances they had to make the postseason. This is why Panthers can experiment with a lineup in their next game against Indianapolis Colts.
Allen stepped in for injured Cam Newton in Week 3 and got to an impressive start. He won his first four games and even sparked a debate on whether he should be Carolina’s QB of the future. Since then, however, his production dropped and he stopped taking care of the ball. In the last eight games, the 23-year-old threw 15 interceptions compared to 12 touchdowns while the Panthers recorded only one win and seven defeats.
With all of their playoff hopes gone now, Carolina Panthers probably want to use the final two weeks of the season to evaluate Will Grier, whom they took in the third round of 2019 NFL Draft. Grier last played in the preseason, where he didn’t perform at his best. He completed 55.7 percent of his passes while throwing two TDs and three interceptions.
