It looks like firing head coach Ron Rivera won’t be the last of major moves made by Carolina Panthers in 2019. According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers have decided to bench quarterback Kyle Allen and give rookie Will Grier a chance in the last two games.

This move comes after Allen mightily struggled in the past weeks, which caused the Panthers to lose any chances they had to make the postseason. This is why Panthers can experiment with a lineup in their next game against Indianapolis Colts.

Allen stepped in for injured Cam Newton in Week 3 and got to an impressive start. He won his first four games and even sparked a debate on whether he should be Carolina’s QB of the future. Since then, however, his production dropped and he stopped taking care of the ball. In the last eight games, the 23-year-old threw 15 interceptions compared to 12 touchdowns while the Panthers recorded only one win and seven defeats.

With all of their playoff hopes gone now, Carolina Panthers probably want to use the final two weeks of the season to evaluate Will Grier, whom they took in the third round of 2019 NFL Draft. Grier last played in the preseason, where he didn’t perform at his best. He completed 55.7 percent of his passes while throwing two TDs and three interceptions.
