The Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is recovering well from his left shoulder setback, the player himself revealed. This confirms a report from ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry that Herbert is hopeful to begin throwing again “in the next couple of weeks” as he continues his recovery process.

When questioned on Thursday, Herbert revealed that he believes that he is now “getting closer to 75 percent” recovered after undergoing surgery in January on his non-throwing left shoulder to repair a torn labrum.

“It’s a pretty long process,” Herbert remarked at the Chargers’ draft party. “Kind of expecting it to be a five- or six-month recovery and being on the lead shoulder, it’s kind of tough throwing and golfing and doing all those things that are kind of explosive movements.”

Herbert’s update was not the only major news concerning the Chargers on Thursday. The team selected TCU wideout Quentin Johnston as their first-round pick on Thursday night. Selected 21st overall, Johnston expressed his joy at joining the Chargers and his excitement to play alongside Herbert.

The Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler may resort to remaining with the Chargers for another season as he struggles to find a new team that will commit to him beyond a single season.

Upon requesting a trade three weeks ago, Ekeler has been searching for a new team yet has been unable to find a suitable destination.

“When it comes down to what’s going on with the whole trade and all that stuff, really, look, we’re trying to find a long-term partner,” Ekeler stated during an interview on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. “That’s what we want. We want someone who wants to sign us for a few years and sees us not just in the immediate future, but a couple of years out.”

Ekeler added that once his career with the Chargers hit a slump, he began his search for a new team in order to advance his career.

He insisted that he does not hold any ill feelings towards the Chargers organization, however, and that he would be willing to stay at the Chargers another year if need be, becoming a free agent afterward.

The Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill is set to leave the team to join the Miami Dolphins. There, he will reunite with fellow defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Fangio confirmed Hill’s appointment on Monday, however, his role in the team remains unspecified.

“First and foremost, Renaldo’s a good coach,” Fangio stated during his public address. “Really, a talented coach with a bright future in the NFL. He worked with us for two years in Denver, so his familiarity with me and the system and what we do was important to me. But regardless of that, just his ability to be a great coach is what attracted me to him.”

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley allowed Hill to leave for the Dolphins out of respect for both Hill and Fangio. Staley served as an assistant under Fangio from 2017 until 2019, coaching at both the Chicago Bears and the Denver Broncos.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, Hill played 10 seasons in the NFL as a defensive back. Having played for the Dolphins from 2006 to 2008, Hill became Miami’s assistant defensive backs coach in 2018.

The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams will be out for two to three weeks after suffering a small, nonsurgical fracture in his back, sources reported on Friday. This could bring an end to Williams’ season should the Chargers not progress in the playoffs.

After being injured in the Chargers’ regular-season finale against the Denver Broncos, Williams has undergone an X-ray and an MRI scan, both of which produced negative results. After experiencing a lack of progress over the coming days, Williams underwent an additional MRI, whereupon he received a fracture diagnosis.

Williams has a history of back issues, having missed the first five games of his rookie season in 2017 due to a back injury.

Facing criticism, Chargers coach Brandon Staley defended his decision to play his starters against the Broncos, explaining, “It’s difficult to decide who plays and who doesn’t and who is more valuable than the rest. What you are trying to do is set a standard for your program about how you do things. That is what I believe in, and I didn’t want anybody to get hurt in [the game], regardless of their status, because everybody is important.”

The Los Angeles Chargers are not planning to rest any starting players as they prepare to face the Denver Broncos on Sunday in their final regular season game. This comes after the Chargers’ 31-10 blowout victory over the defending Super Bowl champion Rams.

“Our approach is definitely going to be to try to win this ball game and play as well as we can play heading into the playoffs,” coach Brandon Staley confirmed on Monday. The team will look to start their best players so as to secure the number 5 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Although Staley acknowledged the possibility that some players may not be available for selection due to injury concerns, he remained adamant in his intention to play his best starting lineup against the Broncos.

Los Angeles reported that edge rusher Joey Bosa is feeling healthy and ready to play after playing his first game since Week 3 following groin surgery. Derwin James Jr. remains unavailable as he remains in concussion protocol.

Despite ranking among the league’s worst defenses, the Chargers have managed to average 25.8 points per game to rank second in the AFC West.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen has suffered a setback in his recovery from a left hamstring injury, thereby bringing his ability to play in Week 9 of the season into question.

While the player sat out of five games before marking his return in the Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Allen remains adamant that he did not strain his injury during the game. Furthermore, he stated that he “felt great” on the field despite only playing the first half.

“I don’t think it was a restrain or anything,” Allen said of his injury. “It is just some more scar tissue that is trying to break off and whenever it is ready to heal, just got to let it do its own thing.” Allen was absent from team training on both Monday and Wednesday.

Should Allen be unavailable for the Falcons game on Saturday, the team will be without its top three receivers. Mike Williams is struggling with a right high ankle sprain while wide receiver Joshua Palmer will not return to action yet despite clearing concussion protocol.

The Los Angeles Chargers’ injury woes have continued to worsen following the news that cornerback J.C. Jackson will be ruled out for the remainder of the 2022 NFL season.

The Chargers coach Brandon Staley confirmed that Jackson ruptured the patella tendon on his right knee during the team’s 37-23 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

To add to the Chargers’ injury concerns, wide receiver Mike Williams has also fallen foul of injury, suffering a right high ankle sprain. According to the team, Williams is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Los Angeles is also without left tackle Rashawn Slater and edge rusher Joey Bosa, both of whom remained on injured reserve since being placed there during Week 3.

This lengthy list of injured players is a major concern for the Chargers, who have won four games and lost three since the start of the season, putting them in second place behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West.

While Staley remains uncertain as to whether the ongoing injury crisis will ramp up the team’s trade activities leading up to the November 1 deadline, the team’s bye in Week 8 will be a welcome sight as they attempt to assess their current predicament.

After pulling off a blockbuster trade for star quarterback Russell Wilson, the Denver Broncos believed they were one of the Super Bowl contenders entering the 2022 NFL season. But six games into the campaign, the Broncos look even worse than they did in previous years.

The Los Angeles Chargers were the latest team to stump on the Broncos’ championship hopes by handing them a 16-19 overtime loss on Monday Night Football.

After struggling to put together some meaningful offense in the past several weeks, the Broncos actually had a great start against the Chargers. They got to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, highlighted by Wilson’s 39-yard pass to tight end Greg Dulcich.

Unfortunately for Denver, they couldn’t continue in the same rhythm moving forward. This allowed the Chargers to get back in the game and do enough to force overtime. During the extra period, both teams were without any real idea how to move the ball, and the game had tie written all over it.

The Broncos’ special teams made sure this won’t be the case by muffing a punt catch and giving the ball away at their own 28-yard-line. This set up a 39-yarder for the Chargers kicker Dustin Hopkins, who drilled the ball through the uprights to give his team the win.

The Chargers now comfortably sit in second place in AFC West with a 4-2 record. On the other hand, the Broncos suffered their third straight loss and are now sitting at 2-4 and facing long odds to make the playoffs.

“We have to answer the call,” said Wilson after the game. “Adversity is definitely challenging us right now, but the only way I know to get through it is to continue to work hard and to believe.”

Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley stated on Wednesday that quarterback Justin Herbert is now considered day-to-day after exhibiting a gradual recovery from a rib injury incurred six days prior.

Herbert suffered a fracture to his rib cartilage during the Chargers’ 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday after being hit hard by Chiefs defensive end Mike Danna. After a brief injury interval, Herbert returned to action, missing just one play. He was subsequently hurt when sandwiched between Chiefs pass-rushers Frank Clark and George Karlaftis. While choosing to remain in the game, Herbert’s injury began to flare up once play was concluded.

Staley revealed that Herbert has recovered significantly since his injury, explaining that the decision for Herbert to play in Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars will rest firmly on the quarterback’s shoulders.

Herbert participated partially in training on Wednesday. While he did not throw any passes in the portion of the training session that was open to reporters, he was involved in handling balls off to running backs. Currently, Herbert remains listed as a limited participant on the Chargers’ injury report.

The 2021 NFL regular season officially wrapped up on Sunday with one of the most thrilling finishes in recent memory. This was primarily thanks to the Sunday Night Football game between Las Vegas Riders and Los Angeles Chargers that determined the last two playoff slots in AFC.

The Raiders and the Chargers both had chances to make the postseason if they played a tie. However, a win for one team would mean that the other team will stay home, and the Pittsburgh Steelers would get the last spot. The Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens earlier in the day to improve to a 9-7-1 record.

Las Vegas, gunning for their first playoff appearance since 2016, were a much better team for the majority of the game and it seemed that they had the game locked up early in the fourth. They opened the period with a touchdown and a field goal to go up 29-14 while the Chargers looked helpless and unable to get their offense going.

However, just as the Steelers were preparing to celebrate, the Chargers found a way back into the game. Second-year quarterback Justin Herbert first led his team 75 yards down the field and threw a touchdown pass to wideout Joshua Palmer. He then found running back Austin Ekeler in the endzone to make a successful two-point conversion.

After the Chargers’ defense managed to get the ball back, Herbert once again embarked on a lengthy drive that was capped with a TD pass to Mike Williams as the clock was reaching zero.

The Raiders got the ball first in overtime and moved the ball well enough to set up a 40-yard field goal for Daniel Carlson that put them in the lead. The Chargers responded with a field goal of their own to get the score even again.

At this point, it seemed that the most improbable outcome will end up happening and that the two teams will play a tie, which will leave the Steelers out of the postseason. But the Raiders got the ball once again and were not in the charity mood. They advanced to the Chargers’ territory and gave their kicker a chance to win the whole thing from 46 yards as the time was expiring. Carlson came through to leave Chargers empty-handed and launch celebrations in Las Vegas and Pittsburgh.
