The contract negotiations between the Baltimore Ravens and their quarterback Lamar Jackson have turned into a real standoff. While both sides claim they want to get a long-term deal done, multiple reporters indicate that they are nowhere near it.

The Ravens’ general manager Eric DeCosta once again said the right things during his recent chat with the reporters at the NFL scouting combine.

“We want Lamar here,” DeCosta said when asked about his signal-caller.

If the two sides don’t manage to strike a deal soon, the Ravens are expected to place a franchise tag on Jackson in order to ensure they don’t lose him for nothing. However, DeCosta said that the organization hopes this won’t be necessary.

“We’re hopeful to get a deal done with Lamar before that happens,” DeCosta said. “But sure, they’re big numbers. We’ve known they’re big numbers. We’re prepared for that.

It was previously reported that the main issue in negotiations between the Ravens and Jackson is the player’s request to have his entire contract guaranteed. Baltimore is standing firm that this won’t happen, although it is reportedly willing to make Jackson the highest-paid player in the league in average salary.

Since being taken with the final pick of the first round in 2018, Jackson established himself as arguably the best dual-threat quarterback in the history of the league. He made two Pro Bowls, won the MVP honors in 2019, and led the Ravens to playoffs in four out of his five seasons.

The Baltimore Ravens quarterback situation is turning from bad to worse. After having to put star signal-caller Lamar Jackson on the COVID-19/Reserve list, the Ravens have now also lost their backup quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Friday that the Ravens placed Griffin on the Injured Reserve list, ruling him out for at least three weeks. This move came after the veteran injured his hamstring in Wednesday’s 19-14 loss to division rivals Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ravens are now left with third-stringer Trace McSorley, who has only 10 career snaps in the NFL, as the only active quarterback on their roster. McSorley replaced Griffin against the Steelers, completing two passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. He also added 16 rushing yards from three attempts.

The Ravens now hope that Jackson can get cleared in time to suit up for next week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The 23-year-old tested positive for COVID-19 on Thanksgiving and will soon complete the mandatory 10-day quarantine.

If Jackson gets multiple negative tests after the quarantine, he’ll be able to face the Cowboys. If not, it will be up to McSorley to take responsibility.

“He’s feeling well,” Ravens left tackle Orlando Brown told the media on Friday. “He wants to be out there playing. I know Lamar is looking forward to getting out there.”

Ravens are in danger of not making the postseason, due to their three-game losing streak. This caused them to fell to a 6-5 record and third place in AFC North. Nevertheless, the battle for a playoff bid looks to be a close one.

Baltimore Ravens’ signal-caller Lamar Jackson is the best player in football at the moment. This is at least what his fellow players think as he was selected No.1 on the NFL’s Top 100 list.

This was Jackson’s first entry on the list and comes after an MVP season in 2019. He finished the year leading NFL in passing touchdowns while setting several records, including most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback.

NFL presents its Top 100 list, which features the best players in the league in the past year, on an annual basis since 2011. The list is based on a poll organized by the NFL in the offseason with players voting on their peers.

The No.2 on this year’s Top 100 was Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Russell Wilson, making a big jump from the 2019’s No.25 position, while LA Rams’ defensive tackle Aaron Donald rounds the top three. They are followed by Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes and New Orleans Saints’ wideout Michael Thomas.

The top 10 on the list is dominated by offensive players with just Donald and New England Patriots’ corner Stephon Gilmore being the only players from the other side of the ball.

It looks like Baltimore Ravens’ second-year quarterback Lamar Jackson is the most beloved player by NFL fans this year. The league announced on Monday that Jackson received the most votes for the 2020 Pro Bowl in a fan voting that wrapped up on December 12th.

According to final results, Jackson had a total of 704,699 votes, which is 164,000+ votes more than second-placed Seattle Seahawks’ QB Russell Wilson got (539,768). The top five is rounded up by Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes (468,838), Minnesota Vikings’ running back Dalvin Cook (431,748), and Carolina Panthers’ RB Christian McCaffrey (406,477).

It shouldn’t be surprising that Lamar Jackson has such popularity as he is currently having a season for the ages. He led the Ravens to league-best 12-2 record while establishing himself as the frontrunner for the MVP award. Jackson also broke several records in 2019, including Michael Vick’s single-season rushing yards record by a QB.

The 2020 Pro Bowl will take place on January 26th at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

Baltimore Ravens are facing with some serious issues ahead of their game against Cincinnati Bengals, with their starting quarterback Joe Flacco still not cleared to play due to a hip injury. In case that Flacco doesn’t recover in time, Ravens will be forced to give the first career to their rookie QB Lamar Jackson on Sunday.

However, this might not turn out to be such a big of a deal, since Jackson will be “very prepared” if he ends up starting the game.

“I feel like I’d be very prepared,” – the 21-year-old said. “I’m trying to sponge everything in. Whatever happens, will happen.”

While Lamar Jackson would immediately jump on the opportunity to start his first NFL games, the decision isn’t up to him but Ravens’ coach John Harbaugh. And, as it turns out, even Harbaugh doesn’t know who will be his starting QB as he refused to comment the topic when talking with reporters on Wednesday.

“I don’t feel like we owe anybody any answers,” – said Harbaugh.

Lamar Jackson had the opportunity to play several times this season as a relief to Flacco, but he was also used in some trick plays. Jackson completed seven out of 12 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 139 yards in 28 attempts and managed to score a touchdown.
