The Los Angeles Clippers are getting a much-needed boost as they attempt to avoid sliding down the Western Conference standings. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers veteran guard Russell Westbrook is set to return to action next week after previously being sidelined due to hand surgery.

Westbrook suffered a hand fracture in a 140-115 win over the Washington Wizards on March 1. He underwent surgery the next day and was initially expected to four weeks. But it appears that the former NBA MVP recovered earlier than expected and could be back on the court as soon as Monday when the Clippers face the Indiana Pacers.

Westbrook has been one of the key bench contributors for the Clippers this season. In 58 games before the injury, he averaged 11.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while playing just 22.6 minutes per contest.

In 11 games without Westbrook, the Clippers have been playing hot and cold and went 6-5. They were also hit with a number of other injuries, with Norman Powell, another important bench player, currently being out with a lower leg issue.

After flirting with the No. 1 seed in the West earlier this season, the Clippers have now dropped to the fourth place in the standings. They are currently sitting at a 44-25 record with just 1.5 games in front of the fifth-placed New Orleans Pelicans.

The 10-time All-Star guard is set to play alongside Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, along with Russell Westbrook, who played with Harden at the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets.

Harden is “ecstatic” about his move, sources have claimed. He had been looking to depart Philadelphia since June when he opted in his $35.6 million player option for the 2023-24 season. This comes after he and 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey had a fallout.

The Los Angeles Clippers surrendered a big package in February to reunite with guard Eric Gordon. However, the reunion turned out to be short-lived as the team will reportedly move on from the veteran and make him a free agent.

Gordon had one year left on his contract with a base salary of $20.9 million. But there was no guaranteed money left on the deal, so the Clippers were able to let him go and get some badly-needed financial flexibility.

Gordon started his career with the Clippers as the franchise’s seventh overall pick in 2008. After three seasons in LA, he embarked on stints with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Houston Rockets. The Clippers acquired him midway through the 2022-23 season in a trade with the Rockets that saw them give up Luke Kennard, John Wall, and swap rights. The Clippers ended up with the No. 30 pick instead of the No. 20 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft as a result of the trade.

Gordon was solid with the Clippers last season, averaging 11.0 points and 2.1 assists per game. He also brought the team reliable shooting behind the arc (42.3%) while contributing on the defensive end and filling various injury-related gaps in the lineup.

Despite this, the Clippers likely felt that they couldn’t afford to commit more than $20 million to a player that might not even start next season. Also, moving Gordon will give the Clippers ability to allocate his minutes to younger players.

The beef between Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, two former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates, have been well documented. But there doesn’t seem to be much bad blood left between the two since Durant just publicly came to Westbrook’s defense over the criticism he has been facing in recent seasons.

Following an unsuccessful stint with the Los Angeles Lakers, Westbrook endured heavy criticism, with some even going as far as saying he doesn’t belong in the league anymore. However, after leaving the Lakers, Westbrook found his groove with the LA Clippers and is once again playing at a high level.

Speaking with reporters on Saturday, after his Phoenix Suns got a 112-100 win over Westbrook’s Clippers in Game 4 of the first-round series, Durant took issue with past criticism of Westbrook and praised him for being “resilient.”

“People going to always criticize when you’re successful and doing your thing for this long,” Durant said. “Russ has been resilient his whole life. He comes to work, and doesn’t say much. Just come hoop.”

Durant explained that people would only realize how good Westbrook was once he retires.

“When he retires, people are going to really tell the truth about his game,” he added. “Right now, the fun thing to do is to make a joke out of Russ. But the way he’s been playing since he got with the Clippers is showing everybody who he really is.”

Durant has been able to witness up close that Westbrook can still ball out. Despite playing without his co-stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who are out due to injuries, Westbrook has kept the Clippers competitive against a star-studded Phoenix Suns team. He has been averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game while being a menace on the defense.

However, despite Wesbtrook’s best efforts, the Clippers find themselves on the brink of elimination. The Suns have a 3-1 lead in the series and will look to finish the job in Game 5 in Phoenix on Tuesday.

The 2017’s NBA MVP Russell Westbrook will remain in Los Angeles. According to his agent Jeff Schwartz, Westbrook intends to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers after finalizing his contract buyout with the Utah Jazz.

Westbrook started the 2022-23 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers but ended up being traded to the Jazz ahead of the NBA trade deadline.

Westbrook joined the Lakers in the summer of 2021, looking to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis in an attempt to compete for an NBA title. But the move turned out to be disastrous for all sides involved, as the Lakers underperformed in 2021-22, and Westbrook ended up shouldering the majority of the blame for the team’s bad performances.

Entering the 2022-23 season, Westbrook made the biggest adjustment of his career and moved to the bench in hopes of resolving some of the concerns surrounding his fit with James and Davis. But despite being productive in his new role, averaging 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game, Westbrook was still shipped out to Jazz as the Lakers looked to create a more balanced roster.

The Jazz never intended to have Russell Westbrook suit up for them, giving the player permission to talk with other teams and see if there is a destination for him in case of the buyout. Westbrook considered the Washington Wizards and the Chicago Bulls, among other teams but eventually settled on the Clippers. By staying in LA, he will have a chance to be part of a championship contender while reuniting with his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Paul George.

Westbrook has nine All-Star nods and nine All-NBA honors since entering the league as a fourth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He averaged a triple-double in four of his 15 seasons as a pro and has the most triple-doubles in the history of the league.

LA Clippers coach Ty Lue confirmed that his team will be without key players Kawhi Leonard and Paul George for their home game against the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The pair were also absent from the Clippers’ 107-124 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

For George, the Warriors’ defeat was the second straight game that he missed out on since straining a right hamstring tendon. He picked up the injury during the first half of the Clippers’ 97-119 victory over the San Antonio Spurs last Saturday.

Leonard was injured during the Clippers’ 114-121 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday. He rolled his ankle late in the fourth quarter after he attempted to block a shot and landed badly.

According to a report released by ESPN, both George and Leonard have been working out and the pair underwent treatment for their respective injuries in Los Angles on Wednesday. Leonard is expected to be reevaluated in the next few days.

The Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard will not feature in the team’s upcoming game against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, the team confirmed.

Leonard sprained his right ankle during the Clippers’ 114-121 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday night, He landed awkwardly after attempting to block a shot during the fourth quarter of the game.

According to Leonard, the injury is not of a severe nature. “Just rolled my ankle, But I should be fine,” he stated following Monday’s game.

This injury comes shortly after Leonard returned to action following a long-term knee injury. The win over Utah was Leonard’s third game since returning from a 12-week absence.

Leonard first started experiencing stiffness in his surgically repaired right knee on October 25. Before that, he appeared in two of the Clippers’ first three games of the season. Terance Mann has turned his outstanding outing in the 2020-21 playoffs into a new deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. Mann inked a two-year extension that is reportedly worth $22 million with the franchise.

The Clippers confirmed the news via media release, although the financial details of the detail remained undisclosed. The new contract will keep Mann with the franchise through the 2024-25 season as he still has two years left on his old deal.

Mann entered the league in 2019 as the Clippers’ second-round draft pick. He didn’t make a remarkable impression in his rookie year, but his sophomore season was better than anyone expected.

The Florida State product first performed well in the regular season, averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, before emerging as an unlikely hero for the Clippers in the postseason. Mann gave the team a big lift when Kawhi Leonard went down with an injury while delivering a 39-point performance in a Game 6 win against the Utah Jazz that secured the Los Angeles team a spot in the Western Conference Finals.

“I want to thank the front office for this opportunity to remain a part of the Clipper Nation,” said Mann in a statement. “I would also like to thank my coaches and teammates for believing me and allowing me to grow both on and off the court.”

The Los Angeles Clippers will have to wait a while before seeing what they have in their rookie guard Jason Preston. According to multiple reports, Preston will miss a significant portion of the new NBA season after undergoing right foot surgery on Thursday.

Preston needed the procedure after getting injured during one of the workouts ahead of the training camp.

The Clippers selected Preston in the early second round of the 2021 NBA Draft out of Ohio University. He played three years of college basketball with the Bobcats, averaging 12.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.

Reportedly, the Clippers were excited about Preston and planned to give him a more prominent role after he impressed the coaching staff during the offseason. The team’s president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank even publicly praised the 22-year-old guard, saying that the rookie “made terrific progress.”

Preston’s minutes could possibly go to the Clippers’ other rookie guard Brandon Boston Jr., whom they also selected in the second round. Boston had a solid preseason so far, averaging 15 points and 5.5 rebounds in the first two games.

It turns out the LA Clippers were serious about getting their own place and leaving the Staples Center in the sole possession of the Los Angeles Lakers. The franchise detailed the plans for building their own arena on Friday, revealing that their new home will be called the Intuit Dome.

The name of the arena reflects the partnership of the team and technology company Inuit. The two sides also agreed to a 23-year strategic partnership as part of the deal.

The arena will be located in Inglewood, California, and is expected to be finished by 2024. This would allow the Clippers to play the 2024-25 NBA season in the Intuit Dome.

According to the Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, the team’s new home, which will cost around $2 billion, will allow the franchise to connect with their fan base and build their own identity.

“We’re good now, and we’re going to be a good year in and year out,” Ballmer told ESPN. “We’re going to build our own building, more of our own identity, more of our own personality. And I think some of the fans on the other side if you will, it’s like, ‘What? You dare to question our supremacy?’ No, we do.”

The Clippers moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and initially played in Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Due to bad conditions, the franchise considered moving to Anaheim but settled to join the Lakers and the LA Kings in the Staples Center in 1999.

Since moving to Staples, the Clippers had 11 winning seasons and made the playoffs 10 times with six Western Conference Semifinals appearances.
