With the city of New Orleans refusing to allow Saints to open their stadium for fans amid the coronavirus pandemic, the team started looking into other options to avoid playing home games in front of empty stands. One of them is moving to Louisiana State University’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

According to Saints’ senior vice president of communications and broadcasting Greg Basel, the organization already met with LSU officials on Tuesday to discuss this possibility.

“LSU has been gracious and enthusiastic regarding hosting our future games, and we very much appreciate their partnership,” Bensel told ESPN. “We have also discussed the possibility of moving our home games to LSU with the NFL, and they are aware of our exploring this option.”

This wouldn’t be the first time that Saints play at Tiger Stadium, as they hosted four games there during the 2005 NLF seasons when Hurricane Katarina forced them out of New Orleans. Also, they played a handful of preseasons games in Baton Rouge during the franchise’s early years.

Both NFL and Saints have been trying to get approval from New Orleans’ Mayor LaToya Cantrell to allow fans in Mercedes-Benz Superdome at limited capacity but got rejected. The ban for “large gatherings” is still in place in New Orleans, and according to Cantrell, having 20K fans in a closed stadium “presents significant public health concerns.”

Baton Rouge, on the other hand, gave an exception to LSU Tigers for their home games, with Tiger Stadium operating at 25% capacity.

So far, 15 NFL teams have opened their stadiums to fans in a limited capacity while several other organizations plan the same move in the coming weeks.

The LSU Tigers, the reigning national champions of college football, have dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25 after yet another surprise defeat on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.

The Tigers, who began their season with a surprising loss at the hands of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, rebounded last week with a 41-7 win against Vanderbilt.

Their worst flaws were once again exposed on Saturday, however, losing to their previously-winless SEC West opponents in a game that they were favored heavily in.

The Tigers allowed a total of 586 yards to Missouri, making it impossible for their offense to propel them to victory despite quarterback Myles Brennan’s huge day, throwing for 430 yards and 4 touchdowns. LSU’s defense has taken a huge step back this season, shocking many who expected them to keep up their strong form after their incredible 2019 campaign.

The loss meant that LSU dropped from 17th to unranked in the AP Poll, the first time that they haven’t been voted as one of the top 25 teams in college football since November 5th, 2017, ending a streak of 42 weeks being ranked.

The 1-2 Tigers will look to get back on the right track at Florida next weekend.

LSU’s offense just suffered a tough blow ahead of the start of the 2020 college season. The Tigers’ wideout Ja’Marr Chase, one of the nation’s top prospects, announced on Monday that he decided not to play football this year and will instead focus on entering the 2021 NFL Draft.

Chase announced his decision via a statement posted on Twitter, writing that “during this time with so much going on, this is what’s best for my family.”

” I cannot ignore what I feel in my heart, and this ultimately is the best decision for me. I’ll look forward to returning to the field in 2021,” he added.

Ja’Marr Chase had a breakthrough sophomore season with LSU in 2019, helping the team to win the national championship. Chase finished the year with 84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns en route to winning Biletnikoff Award as the best college wideout.

Chase is described as a complete receiver by many scouts and will most likely be on top of draft boards for many teams despite sitting out. Currently, he is considered to be among the top five best players in his class.

Besides Chase, LSU also saw defensive end Neil Farrell and cornerback Kary Vincent opting out due to coronavirus pandemic concerns.

Clemson entered the CFP national championship game against Louisiana State University on the longest winning streak in the nation, having won 29 games in past 741 days. However, this streak ended unceremoniously on Monday night with LSU claiming an impressive 42-25 win.

Clemson opened the game strong, scoring a touchdown on their first possession and then claiming 17-7 lead in the early second quarter. But LSU, fueled by their Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow, didn’t intend to give up without a fight. They rallied to score 20 unanswered points by halftime and managed to safely navigate to the program’s fourth national title.

LSU, however, couldn’t really relax until the very end of the fourth quarter. Clemson had a shot to cut into Louisiana’s lead with 10 minutes left in the contest, but Tee Higgins’ touchdown was voided due to offensive pass interference. Clemson tried to get back into the game once again, but their QB Trevor Lawrence fumbled the ball with four minutes left and allowed the LSU to run out the clock.

LSU’s win was highlighted by Burrow’s electric performance, who threw for 463 yards and four touchdowns while also running for one. The four passing TDs allowed him to set a single-season record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 60.

“You know, I think what we did tonight can’t be taken away from us,” said Burrow after the game. “I don’t know about the whole hero thing, but I know this national championship will be remembered for a long time in Louisiana. To do it in New Orleans is even more special. This is going to be remembered for a long time.”

After writing his name in college football and LSU history books, Burrow turns to NFL. He will enter the 2020 NFL Draft, where he is expected to be the first overall pick.
