]]>Modric led his team to a 2-1 victory over Morocco in the 2022 World Cup third-place playoff, thereby walking away from the competition with a bronze medal. This means that Modric and Croatia have won medals at two consecutive World Cups, having lost the final of the 2018 competition to France.
“This medal is very important for us, for me, for Croatia as a national team, as a country,” Modric said following Saturday’s victory. We confirm with this medal that Croatia is playing an important role in the world of football and we are leaving Qatar as winners.”
Head coach Zlatko Dalic is of the opinion that Modric will continue to play for his country at Euro 2024 should the team qualify for the tournament. Still, the Real Madrid legend prefers to focus on the Nations League competition first.
Scheduled for June 2023, the UEFA Nations League finals will see Croatia come up against Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands in a knockout format. The semifinal draw is scheduled to take place on January 25.

]]>Dalic insisted following his team’s World Cup exit that Modric has at least one more tournament in him, namely Euro 2024. While in the twilight years of his career, the 37-year-old coach has not yet officially retired from the international stage.
“Perhaps this is the end of the generation of the World Cups, a couple have reached an age and have to see what happens in 2026,” Dalic stated. “We have had a great team and this generation will finish off their career at Euro 2024. We have the Nations League and an excellent generation who reached two semifinals.”
Regarding his own position as Croatia’s coach, Dalic confirmed that he has every intention to continue to lead the Croatian national team. Dalic explained that he not only wants to lead Croatia to UEFA National League glory in six months but also ensure that his team qualifies for Euro 2024.

]]>Modric has been an integral part of Real’s success for the better part of the decade, but it appeared that the club was ready to move on from him in an attempt to rejuvenate their midfield. The 34-year-old midfielder was linked with moves to several high-profile clubs in the past 12 months, with Seria A giant Inter being the most frequently mentioned destination.
However, if it’s up to him, the 2018’s Ballon d’Or winner would like to stay still.
“I’m sure I can play at a high level for two more years, then we’ll see. I would like to end my career at Real, but it will also depend on the club,” said Modric.
Luka Modric hasn’t been prolific this season as we got used from him, but he still played a big part in keeping Real Madrid in La Liga title race. He played 23 games in the league, scoring three goals and dishing five assists so far.
Modric arrived in Madrid back in 2012 from Tottenham Hotspur and has played 334 games in all competitions with the Spanish club. During that time, he helped Real win four UEFA Champions League trophies and one La Liga title, among other accomplishments.
