Croatia manager Zlatko Dalic expressed his hope that captain Luka Modric will continue to represent the national team following their 3-0 semifinal loss to Argentina at the World Cup. Dalic suggested that Saturday’s third-place playoff against either France or Morocco does not necessarily have to be Modric’s last international appearance.

Dalic insisted following his team’s World Cup exit that Modric has at least one more tournament in him, namely Euro 2024. While in the twilight years of his career, the 37-year-old coach has not yet officially retired from the international stage.

“Perhaps this is the end of the generation of the World Cups, a couple have reached an age and have to see what happens in 2026,” Dalic stated. “We have had a great team and this generation will finish off their career at Euro 2024. We have the Nations League and an excellent generation who reached two semifinals.”

Regarding his own position as Croatia’s coach, Dalic confirmed that he has every intention to continue to lead the Croatian national team. Dalic explained that he not only wants to lead Croatia to UEFA National League glory in six months but also ensure that his team qualifies for Euro 2024.
