Milwaukee Brewers infielder Luis Urias was placed on his team’s 10-day injured list on Saturday, prior to the Brewers’ 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Brewers head coach Craig Counsell confirmed that Urias is dealing with a left hamstring strain which could become serious if not treated properly.

“It’s a solid hamstring strain, six to eight weeks, probably closer to eight, so it is significant,” Counsell confirmed on Saturday. “It’s unfortunate, but we will have to fill in around him, get him back in hopefully late May or early June.”

Urias picked up the injury on the opening day of the season when he went 0-for-4. While outfielder Joey Wiemer has been called up from Triple-A Nashville to fill the vacancy, it is Owen Miller, who has been spending time both as an infielder and an outfielder, who is expected to fill in for Urias as the team’s infielder. Wiemer made his major league debut on Saturday, slated to play at center and bat ninth.

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed infielder Owen Miller from the Cleveland Indians, sources confirmed on Thursday. In exchange, the Brewers will send a player yet to be named and cash in Cleveland’s direction.

Last season, Miller batted .243 with six home runs and 51 RBIs in 130 games. The 26-year-old player played in his primary position of first base while also filling in at second and third base on occasion.

“Owen is someone we are happy to add to our infield mix,” Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said as he welcomed the 26-year-old to Milwaukee.

“He brings a combination of athleticism and versatility that helps enhance our depth across the diamond. And bringing home a hometown product is always a nice bonus.”

Following the exit of utilityman Jace Peterson, the Brewers were in need of a versatile replacement who is capable of filling in multiple infield positions. Peterson agreed to a $9.5 million, two-year deal with the Oakland Athletics earlier this week.

Miller’s trade to the Brewers is largely viewed as a homecoming for the player, who was born in the suburb of Mequon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Atlanta Braves are in the National League Championship Series for the second straight year after a comeback 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. And they have the first baseman Freddie Freeman to thank for that.

The Braves were twice behind but responded each time and managed to make it 4-4 by the bottom of the fifth. After a scoreless two innings, Freeman took the stage and hit a solo homer off a pitch from the Brewers’ All-Star Josh Hader in the bottom of the eighth.

With a 5-4 lead in hand, Atlanta sent out closer Will Smith to finish the job, and the celebration could start.

As ESPN points out, Freeman’s homer was the first in the Braves’ history that came in the eighth inning or later and secured a win in a postseason series. It was also the first time that Hader allowed a home run in the playoffs.

“I’ve had a lot of cool moments in my career, but so far I think that’s going to top them right there,” Freeman told reporters after the game. “But hopefully that’s not the last cool one.”

The Braves now get a do-over after they were eliminated in 2020’s NLCS by the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games. They will face the Dodgers again on Saturday night.

The Brewers, on the other hand, end their postseason run earlier than they have envisioned after winning NL Central with 95 wins.

The 2011 NL MVP Ryan Braun will remain a one-club man after all. Braun, who spent all of his 14 years in MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers, announced his retirement from professional baseball on Tuesday.

Braun opted to retire from baseball after not playing at all during the 2021 MLB season. The 37-year-old star was a free agent since the end of the 2020 campaign following Milwaukee’s decision not to offer him a contract extension.

In a statement shared on the Brewers’ official website, Braun said that he “weighed this decision for many months” before coming to terms that “the time is right for me to retire from my playing days.”

Braun, who is the franchise’s all-time leader in home runs, also recorded a video message for the Brewers fans that the team shared on their social media.

“I will forever appreciate the best fans in the game and the countless people who came out to the ballpark night after night, making Milwaukee the greatest city to play the game,” said Braun in the clip.

The Milwaukee Brewers also shared that they will honor Ryan Braun, his career, and contributions to the franchise on September 26th, when they play their last home game of the regular season against the New York Mets.

During his time as a pro, Braun made 1,766 MLB appearances in a Brewers jersey. He has 352 career homers with a .296 batting average and 1,154 RBIs. On top of the NL MVP award, he also earned six All-Star nods and received five Silver Slugger awards.

Ryan Braun is still deciding whether or not he’ll return to the MLB next season. Signs are showing that he might retire, but he’s also left the door open for possibly staying. As Braun told ESPN, “I’m strongly leaning in the direction of being done as an active player.”

He originally entered the league in 2007, debuting for the Milwaukee Brewers. He quickly established himself as one of the greater hitters in the league, and went on to stay with the Brewers throughout the entirety of his career.

At 37 years old, Braun declined the $15 million option that he has on his contract. However, he sees a possibility that he might change his mind.

“I think you can always push that decision back. I’m still young enough, still working out, still in shape,” the 2011 NL MVP explained. “If something were to change, I might as well leave that door open as long as possible.”

Throughout his career, Braun played 1766 games with Milwaukee. Over that time, he put up a franchise-record 352 home runs to go with 1154 RBIs, on a solid .296 batting average. He’s been an All-Star six times, an MVP once, and a Silver Slugger five times.

However, his 2020 season was less than his usual standard, having dealt with a back injury that sidelined him for up to 21 games. His hitting also wasn’t great, only putting up a .233 batting average.

Both the Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers should be happy about their top picks in the last MLB draft because both players have been named 2020 Rookies of the Year.

Another thing that the two have in common is that they both suffered serious injuries that they had to overcome in their rookie seasons.

Mariners center fielder Kyle Lewis was the unanimous pick in the American League, despite missing a good part of the season with a serious knee injury.

The National League winner, Brewers pitcher Devin Williams, faced a serious elbow injury that forced him to change from being a starting pitcher to a reliever.

Known for his devastating change-up, the so-called “Airbender,” Williams was also named the NL Reliever of the Year. Relievers don’t usually win ROY honors, so Williams wasn’t a unanimous pick for the NL, but he did beat out Philadelphia Phillie’s third baseman Alec Bohm with a total of 14 first-place votes compared to Bohm’s nine.

Lewis became the first player since Mark McGwire in 1987 to lead his team in batting average, home runs, runs, and walks as a rookie. He was just as dynamic in the field, adding some incredible homer run robberies to his rookie season highlight reel.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are headed to the National League Division Series after a two-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series.

Game 2 saw yet another dominant performance by Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, who was practically unhittable all night. Kershaw struck out 13 batters and pitched eight shutout innings in the 3-0 win. Kershaw allowed just four guys to get on base off three singles and a walk.

Los Angeles scored all three of the team’s runs in the fifth inning. Austin Barnes had an RBI single and Mookie Betts added a two-RBI double. It was a slow night on offense for both teams, with Betts getting the only extra-base hit of the night.

However, three runs were more than enough for Kershaw, who put together an absolute masterpiece, constantly confusing Milwaukee batters with his deadly breaking ball.

How good was Kershaw? He struck out Avisail Garcia, Christian Yelich, and Jedd Gyorko—the Brewers top three batters—a combined seven times last night. Only two Milwaukee players were able to reach second base all night.

The Dodgers will face the winner of the St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres series in the NLDS, in which Los Angeles will be playing for the eighth straight season.

After seeing Yasmani Grandal depart for Chicago last month, Milwaukee Brewers found themselves in need of a catcher. And while it was believed they will explore the free-agent market for Grandal’s replacement, the team went on and acquired Omar Narvaez from Seattle Mariners instead.

The Brewers officially confirmed the trade on Thursday. According to the official statement, Mariners received minor league pitcher Adam Hill and a 2020 Competitive Balance Round B selection.

“Omar has established himself as one of the best offensive catchers in the game,” said Brewers general manager David Stearns in a statement. “We believe his bat will give us an impactful left-handed presence in our lineup.”

Omar Narvaez arrives in Milwaukee after he had one of his best seasons as a pro in 2019. He played 132 games in this past season, having a batting average of .278 while hitting 22 home runs and adding 55 RBIs.

Narvaez will most likely share catching duties with Manny Pina, whom the Brewers have under contract through 2020.

Mariners, on the other hand, will turn to Tom Murphy, who will be backed up by Austin Nola and potentially a top catching prospect Cal Raleigh.

The Washington Nationals completed an improbable eighth inning comeback against the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2019 NL Wild Card Game to start off this season’s MLB playoffs with a bang.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the eighth inning against All-Star Brewers closer Josh Hader, Washington plated three runs in the penultimate inning of the game to take a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.

The Nationals found themselves in an early hole after Brewers catcher Yasmani Grandal hit a first inning two-run home run off of starting pitcher Max Scherzer.

Milwaukee, who miraculously made the playoffs despite an injury to star player Christian Yelich, added another run the next inning to go up 3-0 after Eric Thames crushed another home run off of Scherzer, who pitched 5 innings and gave up three runs.

Washington got a run back when shortstop Trea Turner hit a solo run off of Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff, the only run he allowed in four innings.

Milwaukee turned to Hader after getting scoreless outings from Brent Suter and Drew Pomeranz, and the floodgates opened. A Michael A. Taylor hit by pitch, a Ryan Zimmerman single, and an Anthony Rendon walk loaded the bases for Juan Soto, who came up with a clutch three-run single aided by a Trent Grisham error in right field to send Nationals Park into pandemonium after they took a 4-3 lead.

Daniel Hudson locked down the ninth inning save, and the Washington Nationals will live to fight against the powerhouse Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, starting on Thursday night.

At the end of the 5 hour 40-minute game, both teams were exhausted, had used up their entire bullpens, and the scoreboard looked like an NFL game. The Brewers managed to win 15-14 in a 14 inning marathon that featured 38 hits and two of the best closers in the game blowing leads in the 9th inning.

Although Brewers slugger Eric Thames played the hero, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the 14th, there were plenty of players from both sides who had clutch hits to keep their teams alive. Christian Yelich went 5-for-6 with two home runs to tie for the MLB lead and added 4 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.

The crazy 9th inning featured Brewers star reliever Josh Hader letting up the tying run and loading the bases with nobody out. It seemed like the game would be over, but he proceeded to strike out the Nationals 1-3 hitters threw swinging strikeouts, causing the game to go into extras. Milwaukee went up again in the 13th, but the Nats tied it in the bottom half. After Thames homer in the top of the 14th, the Nationals came close to coming back again, but ended the game on a strikeout, sending the tired Washington fans home.

Scores that high always make for an exciting game, and with both teams in the thick of the NL Wild Card race, nobody was going to give up despite the exhausting game. With an early game time start Sunday afternoon, the tired players have a few hours to sleep before heading back to the field to do it all over again.
