Picking out the best mixed-martial-arts fighters in the history of the sport is such a tough job that even UFC President Dana White struggled with during his recent appearance on The Schmozone Podcast. Still, after giving it some thought, White came up with four names that he believes should be on the “Mount Rushmore” of MMA.

According to White, UFC Hall of Famer and UFC 1 champion Royce Gracie alongside current UFC bantamweight and featherweight champion Amanda Nunes are indisputable when it comes to best and most influential MMA fighters in history.

“I mean if you talk about a Mount Rushmore, where their heads are carved in stone forever, you have to go Royce Gracie, no brainer, you have to do that. Amanda Nunes, it has to be Amanda Nunes the greatest female fighter ever,” said White.

White admitted that the other two names are “tough,” before choosing the two-time undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones.

“I would have to go with Jon Jones. The guys have never been beaten,” explained White.

White was conflicted between UFC Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin for the fourth spot, before going with Liddell.

“I guess you have to go with Chuck Liddell. At the point in time, he was the biggest star ever,” he added.

Rogers Palace in Edmonton, Alberta was the host of an exciting fight this weekend for the UFC 145lb title. Two great names clashed in the ring – the champion Max Holloway and the former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. The fight provided a stunning experience for the viewers watching Max Holloway show his brilliance in the octagon once more.

The fight ended with a score of 50-45 49-46 48-47 bringing Holloway a unanimous victory. Frankie Edgar is considered to be one of the fiercest fighters in the category and he started pretty well in the battle, but Holloway quickly gained initiative and started dominating the match. The 27-year-old Holloway was pretty successful in landing hard and precise strikes, being especially devastating with his uppercuts.

Earlier this year, the champion tried to go up a weight class in an attempt for the lightweight title but this made him lose his first fight in six years. Because of this, the skilled fighter had to go back to his former category where he managed to defend the title this weekend.

After the fight, he said that his goal was to prove a point because everyone said that he wouldn’t be able to keep up with Edgar’s pace.

The spectators in New York witnessed a spectacular knockout in the first round during the battle for the WBC world heavyweight title.

Deontay Wilder knocked out Dominic Breazeale and held his title as the world heavyweight champion.

33 years old Wilder knocked out his rival in the first round and rose his record to one draw and 41 wins in 42 fights, which is a really impressive score. He outmaneuvered his opponent with an accurate right-hand jab followed by a left-hand jab. The stunning victory surprised even the biggest Wilder fans.

When the fight was over, Luis Ortiz approached Wilder in the ring and when asked about fights with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury he said that no doors were closed and that fights like that were in discussion.

Wilders also said that all of the involved parties were talking and that there were too many people and opinions involved. Finally, he stated that the teams have to sit down and handle things so they could get it done for the fans.

Dominic Brazeale left the fight without giving a statement for the media.

Conor McGregor, known for his enigmatic social media personality, announced his retirement in a tweet on Monday.

No one is sure what to make of McGregor, who is only 30 years old, and his announcement.

The superstar MMA fighter has been known to use social media for the promotion of his fights in the past. He also announced his “retirement” on Twitter before re-joining the UFC back in 2016.

His announcement came shortly after stating on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that he wanted to return to fight in the Octagon.

McGregor last fought on October 6, 2018. He lost to Russian fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas in a bout for the UFC Lightweight Title.

The Irish fighter is one of the most well-known and decorated fighters in the history of the sport. He owns a 21-4 career record in the Octagon. The southpaw was named the MMA fighter of the year in 2015 and 2016, and also once held the UFC Lightweight and Featherweight titles.

It wouldn’t be a complete surprise if this were McGregor’s official retirement. He also currently is a businessman, selling his Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey in stores throughout the world. His net worth is estimated at over $100 million.

Fans will probably just have to wait and see if McGregor is truly calling it quits.
