The Golden State Warriors reportedly tried to make a big swing before the NBA trade deadline and explored the possibility of trading for Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James. However, both the Lakers and James were unwilling to entertain that option.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors’ owner, Joe Lacob, personally reached out to Lakers’ owner Jeanie Buss in order to ask about James’ availability. James has previously expressed frustration over the state of the Lakers’ roster, prompting rumors about him wanting to leave the franchise.

Buss reportedly told Lacob that the Lakers weren’t interested in trading James but still referred him to James and his agent, Rich Paul. If James wanted out, it is believed that she wouldn’t stand in the way.

However, Paul ended up delivering the same answer: James doesn’t want to move and is happy to remain with the Lakers.

Wojnarowski and Shelburne add that Warriors’ forward Draymond Green played a significant role in the attempt to bring James to Golden State. Green was the one who encouraged Lacob to make the call while also trying to get Paul, who is also his agent, to help him recruit James to the Lakers.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the Warriors come knocking on James’ doors in the offseason. The 39-year-old player will become a free agent in the summer, and although he has a player option, he could entertain offers from other teams if the Lakers’ season ends in a disappointment.

Both the Warriors and the Lakers ended up staying pat during the trade deadline. The Warriors are currently sitting at No. 10 in the Western Conference with a 26-25 record. The Lakers are one spot ahead with a 29-26 record.

When he made his trade request to the Portland Trail Blazers in July, superstar guard Damian Lillard made it clear that he wanted to go to the Miami Heat. However, a move to Florida doesn’t seem to be on the cards for a seven-time All-Star.

According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, the Toronto Raptors and not the Heat are currently the favorites to land Lillard. The talks between the Raptors and Portland have intensified in recent days, and the two sides are getting closer to an agreement.

The Heat tried to make a deal with the Blazers, but their offer, which centered on shooting guard Tyler Herro and several first-round picks, has been deemed underwhelming by Portland’s front office. The Raptors’ offer, on the other hand, is regarded as much more attractive.

Toronto has several players that are interesting to the Blazers, including All-Star forward Pascal Siakam, former Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes, and 2023’s steals leader O.G. Anunoby. It is believed that the Raptors can seal the deal if they offer two of the previously mentioned players alongside a couple of first-rounders.

There are several other suitors for Lillard who could make a late attempt, including the Milwaukee Bucks, the Boston Celtics, and the Philadelphia 76ers. The Blazers reportedly would like to have a deal in place by the end of the month, which would ensure a controversy-free training camp.

Indiana Pacers have traded shooting guard Caris LeVert to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In exchange for LeVert, the Pacers received point guard Ricky Rubio, a lottery-protected first-round pick in 2022, and two second-rounders.

Indiana confirmed the news on their social media on Monday via post in which they’ve wished LeVert “all the best in Cleveland.”

The Pacers have been looking to reshuffle their roster for a while, so trading LeVert isn’t shocking. Indiana receives healthy draft compensation while also getting some money off their books next season with Rubio’s expiring contract. The team is expected to remain active ahead of the NBA trade deadline and has already shown willingness to entertain offers for All-Star Domantas Sabonis and talented big Myles Turner.

The Cavs, on the other hand, add another talented player to their young core. Caris LeVert played well when taking the floor for the Pacers this season and is currently averaging 18.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game in 2021-22. Cleveland expects LeVert to give them a scoring boost moving forward and help them continue their postseason push. The franchise also has long-term plans for the 27-year-old and reportedly plans to sign him to an extension in the offseason.

The Cleveland Cavaliers has been performing above all expectations this season and is currently fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 33-21 record. The Cavaliers are also just one game behind the top-seeded Miami Heat.

It wasn’t long ago when dynamic point guard De’Aaron Fox was the only member of the Sacramento Kings unavailable in trade talks. This has now changed according to recent reports, which indicate that the Kings are now ready to listen to offers for Fox.

ESPN’s NBA insiders Tim MacMahon and Brian Windhorst recently discussed Fox during their The Hoop Collective podcast, and MacMahon mentioned that his sources are telling him that Sacramento could be open to trading the 24-year-old.

“It was widely reported going into the season: De’Aaron Fox is off the table,” MacMahon said. “I’ve heard a lot of smoke that might not be the case at this point.”

The Kings moving on from Fox certainly wouldn’t be so shocking now as it could have been just several months ago. The Kentucky product struggled with injuries in 2021-22 while also seeing his numbers dip across the board. He is averaging 21.3 points per game compared to 25.2 points last season, and 5.0 assists per contest are the lowest he has had since his rookie year. Fox has been shooting poorly from the deep as well, making just 26.3 percent of his three-pointers.

De’Aaron Fox’s poor performances are especially worrying for the Kings, considering they handed him a five-year, $163 million deal last season. Trading him would get what is now perceived more and more as a bad contract off their books while also netting them necessary draft capital and players to continue their rebuild. Another thing working for the franchise, in this case, is that they have proper cover for Fox, having drafted talented guards Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell in the last two drafts.

The Brooklyn Nets have repeatedly said they don’t intend to trade their star guard Kyrie Irving. Also, Irving himself reportedly told people close to him he would rather retire than play somewhere else. But that still didn’t discourage the Dallas Mavericks from trying.

According to SNY’s NBA insider Ian Begley, the Mavs have recently reached out to the Nets to propose a trade for Irving. As Begley points out, it is unclear whether the talks between the two teams progressed any further than the initial inquiry, but the sources say that big man Kristaps Porzingis was mentioned as part of Dallas’ proposed package.

Irving hasn’t played at all in 2021-22 after not getting vaccinated against COVID-19. His vaccination status prohibits him from playing home games due to New York City’s mandates, although he could have played road games in cities that don’t have similar regulations. Despite the latter, the Nets and the player agreed he should remain sidelined until circumstances change.

It isn’t surprising to see Dallas pursuing Kyrie Irving as the franchise has been looking to get another playmaker and ball handler to complement their All-Star Luka Doncic. Irving would fit the role perfectly while giving the Mavs arguably the best backcourt in basketball.

The Nets, on the other hand, should be interested in Porzingis despite his dip in production in recent years. The center position has been an issue for the franchise ever since they’ve traded Jarrett Allen, and the Latvian would be a huge upgrade to their current options.

The Houston Rockets are currently focused on getting point guard John Wall and his massive contract out of town. But he isn’t the only one who believes his time with the franchise is over.

According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, Rockets veteran guard Eric Gordon isn’t so high on being part of the rebuild and is reportedly open to the idea of “moving to a more favorable situation”. Houston, on the other hand, would like to keep the 32-year-old star as they consider him a valuable mentor for their younger players.

Gordon still hasn’t asked the Rockets to trade him but doesn’t hide that he would like to play more meaningful basketball.

“As an NBA player, that’s what you play for—to win. Not to be on the team just to be the man,” Gordon told Iko. “It’s more fun to play to win on a team that’s contending; Everybody goes through that phase for sure.”

Gordon currently has two years left on his deal and is scheduled to earn $37.7 million in the following two seasons. This, in combination with his recent injury history, could limit his market, but there is no doubt that his defense and scoring ability will be enough to entice a team or two.

Gordon is coming off a productive but short 2020-21 season. He averaged 17.8 points and 2.6 assists per game during the campaign but ended up playing just 27 games.

The Detroit Pistons are heading towards a complete rebuild, which makes their star forward Blake Griffin an odd man out. This is why the two sides have recently started exploring options for Griffin’s future, including trade and contract buyout scenarios, according to the Pistons general manager Troy Weaver.

Speaking with ESPN on Monday, Weaver said that the franchise will prioritize finding a trade partner for Griffin. If that isn’t an option, the two sides might engage in buyout talks.

“We respect all the effort Blake has put forth in Detroit and his career and will work to achieve a positive outcome for all involved,” said Weaver.

While waiting for a resolution, Griffin will be out of the lineup, which means that he played his last game for the Pistons. The 31-year-old veteran has averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in the 20 games he played this season.

“I am grateful to the Pistons for understanding what I want to accomplish in my career and for working together on the best path forward,” said Griffin in a statement.

Trading Griffin will be a tough task for the Pistons. He has been in decline in recent seasons, meaning that teams will be reluctant to take on his contract, which pays him $36.6 million in 2020-21 and $39 million in 2021-22.

The most likely scenario is that Griffin agrees to a contract buyout while leaving some money on the table. This would allow him to pick his new destination and join a contender.

Blake Griffin joined the Detroit Pistons as a five-time All-Star in 2018 in a blockbuster trade from the LA Clippers. Griffin was supposed to be the face of the franchise and the player who would bring the Pistons back to contention, but things didn’t exactly work out that way.

During his time in Detroit, Griffin often dealt with injuries that limited his production and time on the court. He did deliver an All-Star campaign in 2018-19, leading the Pistons to the playoffs and averaging a career-high 24.5 points per game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly decided that center Andre Drummond will no longer play for the team as they actively look to trade him before the league’s March 25th trade deadline.

Drummond, who was acquired by Cleveland in a trade last February, is in the last year of a five-year contract and does not figure into Cleveland’s plans as they move forward in 2021.

The former Pistons star has been productive this season, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game on 47% shooting for the 10-18 Cavs. As the team looks to make an unlikely playoff run, they have decided that they prefer to deal him away to acquire future assets.

The decision not to play Drummond has to do with the team’s acquisition of Jarrett Allen earlier this season. Since they view him as their starting center of the future, they’ve decided that they prefer to give him playing time as they work to ship Drummond out.

Trade rumors have placed the Toronto Raptors as a possible destination for the 27-year-old big man, but the team will have more than a month left to find the best possible deal for the two-time All-Star as they continue to look to rebuild.

The New York Knicks were needy at the point guard spot before, but the position is now getting pretty crowded following the arrival of Derrick Rose. Multiple reports say this will result in several exits, and Elfrid Payton might be the first one to go.

SNY’s Ian Begley recently recapped the Knicks’ recent activity on the trade market and said that sources close to the organization told him that Payton is receiving serious interest. According to Begley, at least one playoff team already reached out to explore the availability for the 26-year-old guard.

Payton is enjoying a solid season in his second year in a Knicks jersey, starting 25 games and averaging 11.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. However, he is expected to drop down the pecking order in favor of Rose and standout rookie Immanuel Quickley, so the Knicks should act while he’s in demand.

It is unclear what New York could get back in return for Payton, especially since he is on an expiring contract. But a team in a playoff hunt looking for a defensive-minded playmaker could easily give up a second-rounder or two, which should be enough for the Knicks to let him go.

Elfrid Payton entered the league in 2014 as the Philadelphia 76ers’ No. 10 pick but ended up being traded to the Orlando Magic on draft night. He spent four years with the Magic and also played with Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans before coming to New York.

As the trade deadline approaches, the time has come for front offices to wheel and deal, looking to improve their franchises for the long stretch and the playoffs.

The New Orleans Pelicans are the latest team to come up in trade rumors, with two names in particular popping up: JJ Redick and Lonzo Ball. According to the Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Pelicans are open to trading either of them if the right deal came along.

Ball is no stranger to being in the center of trade talks. Two years ago, when he was on the Los Angeles Lakers, he and his teammates all came up in trade discussions. This was back when the Lakers were trying to acquire Anthony Davis, who was on the Pelicans at the time.

Then, during that 2019 summer, all of that speculation turned into reality, with Ball getting traded to New Orleans for Davis. In addition to Ball, the Lakers also sent Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart to the Pelicans.

But although Ingram has thrived in a Pelicans uniform, even becoming an All-Star during his first year with them, Ball has failed to find himself an ideal niche. This season, Ball has only averaged 12 points per game, to go with 3.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He’s also been shooting a woeful 29.1% from behind the three-point arc.

JJ Redick has always been a well-respected player around the league, thriving in his role as a three-point sniper. However, he too has only averaged 8.1 points a game this season.

It will be interesting to see if Redick or Ball will get traded. And more importantly, who New Orleans might be able to get in return.
