The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII to claim back-to-back Super Bowl championships. They are the first team to win two Super Bowls in a row since the New England Patriots did it in 2004 and 2005.

This is the fourth Super Bowl title for the Chiefs in franchise history. They have now made four Super Bowl trips and hoisted three Vince Lombardi trophies in the past five years.

The Chiefs needed some magic from their quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was named the Super Bowl LVIII MVP, to get to the promised land.

After the game went to overtime, being tied 19-19 through the first four quarters, the 49ers managed to get a field goal on the board to claim a 19-22 lead. Mahomes then orchestrated a 13-play drive, which included a fourth-down conversion, that was capped off with a 3-yard touchdown pass to wideout Mecole Hardman as the time expired.

“Our mindset was: Go win the game right here,” Mahomes said. “Once we got that ball — we fell short in regulation, we’re not going to do that again. We’re going to go out there and win the game.”

Mahomes completed 34 out of 46 passes while throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 66 yards on nine carries. Tight end Travis Kelce had nine catches for 97 yards, while kicker Harrison Butker went 4-of-4 on field goal attempts, including a 57-yarder.

For the 49ers, this marks another crushing defeat in the Super Bowl. They also faced the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV, had a lead for most of the game, and still lost.

Despite an up-and-down regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs showed once again that they are at their best when it matters the most. The Chiefs got a 17-10 win over the favored Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday to clinch their fourth Super Bowl appearance in five years.

The Chiefs opened the game by scoring touchdowns on their first two possessions and followed that up with a field goal to end the first half with a 17-7 lead.

The Chiefs’ defense took the driving seat in the second half, making key plays to keep the Ravens in check. Corner L’Jarius Sneed first saved a touchdown by punching out the ball from the hands of Baltimore’s wideout Zay Flowers as he was about to reach the endzone.

Veteran safety Deon Bush followed that up by intercepting Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson in the red zone to keep the Chiefs with a two-possession advantage with less than seven minutes left on the clock.

The Ravens managed to score a field goal late in the game but never got the ball back as the Chiefs ran down the clock and launched a huge celebration.

“You don’t take it for granted,” said Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes after the game. “You never know how many you’re going to get to or if you’re going to get to any. So it truly is special just to do it with these guys after what we’ve been through all season long. Guys coming together, it really is special. But I told them, ‘The job’s not done.’ Our job now is to prepare ourselves to play a good football team in the Super Bowl and try to get that ring.”

The Kansas City Chiefs will now face the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl LVIII. It marks the rematch of the Super Bowl LIV, which the Chiefs won 31–20 to claim their first title in five decades.

The Kansas City Chiefs veteran quarterback Chad Henne announced his decision to retire from the NFL following his team’s 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl LVII on Sunday night.

Henne did not appear in the game, however, it seemed as if he may receive an opportunity to come onto the pitch when first-choice quarterback Patrick Mahomes aggravated his right ankle injury late in the first half.

“Calling it a career. Capping it off with @budlight and another ring,” Henne wrote on Instagram, thereby confirming his retirement decision.

The 37-year-old player has been with Kansas City for four seasons, also winning Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. Despite mostly playing backup to Mahomes, Henne did play a major role in the Chiefs’ Divisional Round victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, leading a 98-yard touchdown drive.

Henne was introduced to the NFL in 2008 when he was selected as a second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins. He played four seasons with the Dolphins and five with the Jaguars before signing for the Chiefs in 2018.

On Sunday night, the Los Angeles Rams were crowned Super Bowl champions after beating the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. This was the second Super Bowl win for the Rams in franchise history and first since 2000 and “The Greatest Show on Turf.” On the other hand, the Bengals have now played in three Super Bowls and lost all three.

The Rams were the favorites to win it all, but they had to work hard to get there. Despite holding a 13-3 lead at one point, the LA team found itself behind halfway through the fourth quarter. Still, thanks to clutch catches by wideout Cooper Kupp, who is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, the Rams managed to turn things around and secure a 23-20 win.

Kupp finished the contest with eight catches for 92 yards and two TDs and was named the Super Bowl LVI MVP.

“I’ve said it all year, whatever is asked of me whatever my job is gonna be, I just want to execute to the best of my abilities,” said Kupp after the game. “I trust as the game goes on, I’ll have opportunities as well, and I just want to stay ready for those things stay locked in.”

Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford also had a fine game despite having two interceptions. Stafford, who was playing his first season in LA, threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns. Odell Beckham Jr. had two catches for 52 yards and a score before leaving the game due to an injury, while defensive end Aaron Donald and outside linebacker Von Miller had two sacks each.

The Bengals were led by quarterback Joe Burrow, who had 263 yards passing and one touchdown. Running back Joe Mixon added 72 rushing yards while also having a touchdown pass on a trick play.

“I was disappointed in my performance overall,” said Burrow. “That’s going to propel us into next year … we’re not satisfied with what we did this year.”

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are officially the NFL champions, after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 in Super Bowl LV on Sunday night.

The fact that they won wasn’t a shock, considering they were led by legendary quarterback Tom Brady. What was surprising, however, was the manner in which they did it.

As good as Brady is, no one expected Tampa Bay to blow out Kansas City in such an embarrassing fashion. Many expected it to go down to the wire, and most people favored the Chiefs to win.

After all, the Chiefs were not only the defending champions, but also the clear best team in the league throughout the entire season, sporting a league-best 14-2 record. Led by MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes, they ran a tight ship, one so dominant that even Brady should’ve had his hands full with.

The result Sunday night was quite different, with Brady picking apart the Kansas City defense like it was nothing. He ended the game with 21 pass completions out of 29 attempts, along with 201 passing yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdowns were to tight end Rob Gronkowski, who he’d already had much experience playing with during their time on the New England Patriots.

However, a lot of credit must be given to the Tampa Bay defense, who essentially neutralized Patrick Mahomes like no one had ever seen before, sacking him three times and intercepting him twice. Indeed, this Super Bowl game was the first time in Mahomes’ entire career that he had lost by double-digits, a shocking statistic. Even more shocking was the fact that the Chiefs didn’t score one touchdown the entire game.

“They took away our deep stuff,” said Mahomes. “They took away the sidelines, and they did a good job of rallying to the football and making tackles.”

However, Mahomes is still 25 years old and should have plenty of new opportunities to add more Super Bowls to his resume. Meanwhile, the 43-year-old Tom Brady clearly wanted to show everyone why he’s the greatest football player of all time. After winning his 7th Super Bowl in convincing fashion, you’d be hard put to find someone who disagrees.

In a 38-24 win against the rowdy Buffalo Bills last weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs were able to advance to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row. If they manage to win it like they did last year, they’ll be the first team to win back-to-back since the New England Patriots did it in 2004 and 2005.

However, the Chiefs had to really claw their way to victory. The game didn’t start off well for them when they went down 0-9 in the first quarter. But it didn’t take long for them to clap back with full force, scoring 21 points before the first half was up.

By the time the fourth quarter came around, the Chiefs were looking as confident as ever. By the time quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce connected for a touchdown, they had increased their dominant lead to 23 points.

The Bills managed to scrape nine points together towards the end of the game, but the game was pretty much over by that point.

But the Chiefs still have plenty of work to do if they want to win the Super Bowl this year. With Tom Brady and his Tampa Buccaneers looming closer, Kansas City will really have to earn that trophy.

The National Football League has announced that down judge Sarah Thomas will be part of the officiating crew for this year’s Super Bowl, making her the first woman to ever officiate the Big Game.

In a statement announcing the officiating crew for this year’s Super Bowl, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent Sr. said that Thomas’ “elite performance and commitment to excellence has earned her the right to officiate the Super Bowl.”

Thomas (47) was the first woman to ever officiate in the NFL and has been a permanent fixture in the league since getting her start in 2015. She also became the first woman to officiate a playoff game during the 2018 season, calling the game between the New England Patriots and Tennesee Titans, and has since officiated three other playoff matches.

Thomas also spent time as an official in college football and in the United Football League.

Super Bowl LV is scheduled to take place on February 7th in Tampa Bay, Florida, and will feature the winner of the NFC Champion Game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers facing off against the winner of the AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs.

Anyone who’s followed the NFL at all over the last couple of decades knows that Tom Brady’s performance takes on a new meaning during the postseason. And this is now proving to be true regardless of the team that he suits up for.

After leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the playoffs this season, and ending a 13-year franchise playoff drought in the process, Brady led them to a 31-23 victory over the Washington Football Team on Saturday.

This postseason win marks Brady’s 31st throughout his career. Years ago, he broke the record for most career playoff wins when he passed San Francisco 49ers quarterback legend Joe Montana who had 16. Now, Brady has nearly doubled that total.

But Brady’s postseason success is more than just the amount of playoff wins he’s racked up. After defeating Washington this weekend, they became the 17th franchise that Brady has ousted in the playoffs. In other words, not only has Brady nearly doubled Montana’s career playoff wins—the number of different teams he’s beaten in the playoffs has surpassed Montana’s total playoff wins!

This is not a knock on Montana in the slightest. He simply serves as a 2nd place marker to show how legendary Brady’s accomplishments are. If that’s how much better Brady is than Montana, think about how lopsided Brady’s accolades look next to other great quarterbacks.

Tom Brady is by far the greatest quarterback of all time, and probably the greatest NFL player we’ve seen as well.

Thanks to the Los Angeles Rams’ impeccable defense, no one can really count them out of the running for a title. Even though they stumbled into the playoffs without the greatest record, they were still able to oust the higher-ranked Seattle Seahawks and prove that they belonged.

Rams running back Cam Akers especially shined in the 30-20 victory, rushing for 131 yards to go with a touchdown as well. But as we just mentioned, the main punch that the Rams brought was on defense.

Due to LA’s stifling defensive line, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson wasn’t looking like his usual self. All-Pro tackle Aaron Donald had two sacks, Leonard Floyd chipped in with another two, and the whole team had five in total. Even when they weren’t getting sacks, they put intense pressure on Wilson and didn’t let him get comfortable.

But one of the biggest highlights of the Rams’ defense on Saturday’s game took place when Darious Williams intercepted a pass by Wilson and then ran 42 yards for a touchdown. This ended up being the spark that the Rams never looked back from.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff solidified the victory by finding Robert Woods in the endzone with nearly five minutes left in regulation.

With a long list of cancelations and postponements of major events, 2020 wasn’t really a great year for sports. But that didn’t stop it from giving us several history-defining moments—including these five.

The Super Bowl

As the biggest sporting and television event in the United States, the Super Bowl was always going to make this list, but what makes this year’s game so historic was the Chiefs’ epic win that came after a 50-year championship drought.

The Olympics Postponement

More sporting events than we can count were canceled or held at empty stadiums throughout 2020. One delay that got everyone talking was the postponement of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, now scheduled to take place in the summer of 2021. It wasn’t exactly a highlight of the year—but people will forever be talking about it.

The Lakers’ Playoff Bubble Dominance

The Lakers faced a tough year: not just from the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the unexpected passing of Laker legend Kobe Bryant. In his honor, they dedicated the season to him and won themselves another NBA Championship.

The Dodgers Winning The World Series

This year’s World Series was shortened to 60 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t stop the Los Angeles Dodgers from coming out victorious for the first time since 1988. Oh yeah, and they did it in the same month that the Lakers won their title, making it an all-around victory for Los Angeles.

Naomi Osaka’s US Open Win

Naomi Osaka became the reigning champion of the US Open for the second time this year. Her performance at this tournament was truly impressive, and certainly was a shining moment of 2020.
