The Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is set to undergo further testing on his injured right shoulder on Monday, thereby throwing doubt over his eligibility to play in the Jags’ critical game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

“It’s bothering me,” Lawrence said of his injured shoulder following the Jaguars’ 30-12 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccanneers on Sunday. “Hopefully nothing major but, yeah, it’s bugging me right now.” The quarterback’s shoulder was injured when he was shoved by Bucs linebacker Yaya Diaby as he stretched and dove during a fourth-and-1 play late in the third quarter. Lawrence landed on his right shoulder out of bounds.

While the Jaguars remain top of the AFC South, they’ll be desperate to end a four-game losing streak and putting some daylight between them and the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. Currently, all three teams are tied at 8-7, however, the Jags remain on top by virtue of tiebreakers against their two division rivals.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ ugly 20-game losing streak has finally ended thanks to a 23-20 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. It was their first win since Week 1 of the 2020 season, and it’s safe to say it didn’t come easy.

The Jags found themselves down 13-3 late in the first half but managed to turn the game around by scoring two touchdowns. The first one was especially impressive, with rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence connecting with Marvin Jones Jr. for a 28-yard score.

The Dolphins went ahead again in the fourth quarter after QB Tua Tagovailoa, playing in his first game since Week 2, led a quick 91-yard drive that ended with him throwing a TD pass to rookie Jaylen Waddle.

After the two teams exchanged punts, Jacksonville tied the game 20-20 with a 54-yarder from Matthew Wright. This was the longest field goal for Wright at both collegiate and professional levels.

Miami took possession of the ball once again with less than four minutes left in regulation and managed to get to their own 46-yard line before facing a 4th&1. The Dolphins decided to go for it, but the Jags’ defense came up big and made the stop to force a turnover on downs.

The Jaguars managed to make it hard for themselves as a false start penalty and a sack pushed them all the way to their own 44 yards. Facing a 3rd&20, Lawrence completed a 12-yard pass for wideout Laviska Shenault, but it was still not enough for a realistic field goal attempt.

At that point, the Jags let the clock get down to five seconds, and it seemed they would be attempting a Hail Mary pass. But instead, Lawrence once again found Shenault for a 9-yard gain and a new set of first downs. Jacksonville called a timeout to stop the clock at 0:01 and give Wright a chance to end the game with a 53-yard attempt.

The UCF product once again came through and sent the ball between the uprights to make it 23:20 and kickstart a huge celebration on the Jags’ sidelines.

“Obviously, there’s still so much more work to do, but it feels good to get a win,” said Lawrence after the game. “I wasn’t a part of the other 15 [losses], but I was a part of the first five here. We hate losing. It’s been tough… So to get a win and especially in that fashion, I mean, it’s just crazy, so it feels good.”

After the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Clemsons signal-caller Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, everyone assumed that he’d be the team’s starting quarterback for this season. But it appears that the Jags’ new head coach Urban Meyer isn’t ready to make this commitment just yet.

Speaking with reporters on Friday, Meyer said that the starting QB job is still up for grabs between Lawrence and last year’s starter Gardner Minshew. While the competition is ongoing, the duo will continue to receive equal first-team offense snaps on practices.

According to Meyer, he will make the final decision in consultation with his coaching staff and hopes to reach it before Jacksonville’s third and final preseason game.

“I do [have a timeline] in my own mind, but once again, it’s conversation that the three people are having daily,” said Meyer referring to offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and passing-game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Lawrence, who comes to NFL after an accomplished college career in which he was the uncontested starter, said that he doesn’t mind competing for the job.

“It doesn’t bother me,” Lawrence explained. “I think that’s the way to run a team, honestly. The best player has to play, and you’ve got to compete.”

Lawrence had a solid outing in the first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, completing six passes out of nine attempted and throwing for 71 yards. He managed to showcase his arm and accuracy in the process, completing a 35 yards pass to veteran wideout Marvin Jones on a third-and-10 late in the first quarter.

Minshew, on the other hand, completed four passes for 47 yards against the Browns and while also throwing an interception.

Trevor Lawrence has officially been selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars as the first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The quarterback phenom from Clemson was the favorite to be selected number one, given that he’s one of the biggest prospects we’ve seen in years. We’re all expecting great things from him. But how will he fit in with the Jaguars’ offense?

Every offense, NFL or otherwise, has a very specific DNA. Lawrence thrived in Clemson’s highly scripted offense, going through their predetermined routes and reads effectively and effortlessly. He was a coach’s dream, because not only could he be relied upon to run the offensive routes correctly, but he did it with such precision that he translated it into success on the field.

With Jacksonville, Lawrence will be under the helm of offensive coordinator Darrel Bevell, and passing game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Will they be able to help Lawrence grow as a player?

According to Urban Meyer, Bevell was able to do just that with a young Russell Wilson when he had just entered the league: “His ability to get Russell Wilson in the NFL and performing at a high level rather quickly was a big reason why he’s here,” said Meyer.

If Bevell can do the same with Lawrence, we might see him rise in the league quicker than some would normally expect.

And yet, although it’s highly likely that Lawrence will be the starting QB come Week 1, nothing’s set in stone. Meyer had this to say on the matter: “The most important thing for Trevor is to learn the offense, it’s not to sell billboards around the state of Florida.”

Rookies need to be nurtured, and the question is whether or not Jacksonville and Lawrence will be a good fit. Then again, Lawrence might be so darn talented that it won’t even matter. Whether he’s selling billboards or not, we’ll be as ready as anyone to see how he performs in the trenches.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, underwent a successful labrum shoulder surgery on Tuesday. The issue was reportedly on his non-throwing (left) shoulder.

Following the procedure, Lawrence shared a story on social media, writing: “Surgery went great. Excited to rehab.”

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lawrence will spend five to six months recovering and should be ready for training camp. He is expected to be able to throw the football in six weeks.

The surgery forced Lawrence to have his pro day last week, which is a month earlier than originally scheduled. 17 NFL teams had their representatives present at Clemson’s indoor facility, where the 21-year-old signal-caller showed off his arsenal and threw around 60 passes.

“Obviously it wasn’t necessarily the ideal situation and circumstances, but I think we did a great job of just kind of maneuvering and navigating through all that,” said Lawrence.

The surgery shouldn’t affect Trevor Lawrence’s draft stocks at all. After throwing for 10,098 yards and 90 touchdowns during his time at Clemson, Lawrence is expected to be the first overall pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in this year’s draft.
