]]>Giannis and his Bucks have wavered slightly this regular season, but that doesn’t mean you should sleep on them. They might be ranked lower than the Nets and the Sixers, but the Greek Freak is one superstar who doesn’t like to be underestimated. We expect him to come out strong in the playoffs, and perhaps even defeat Brooklyn when the time comes.
The Clippers are yet another team that were embarrassed pretty badly in last year’s playoffs, and we expect them to bounce back hard. Kawhi Leonard is only biding his time, and we’re a lot more confident in them than the higher-seeded Suns and Jazz.
It’s not exactly a hot take to say that the Lakers are still a contender even as they sit at the bottom of the standings. And yet, many NBA watchers have lost faith in them, and we’re here to predict boldly that they will ultimately prevail in the end. As long as LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both healthy, they’ll win the NBA Championship for the second year in a row.

]]>In a game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday, the Lakers lost 110-106, with LeBron missing a three-pointer that would’ve clinched the victory for them. On Sunday night, the Lakers lost yet again—this time to the Toronto Raptors, and James also left the game towards the end with a sore ankle.
To be fair, James hasn’t been feeling 100%, as he stated after their weekend loss against the Kings: “I know getting back to 100% is impossible. I’ll never get back to 100% in my career. But I felt comfortable where I knew I could get on the floor and help my team win.”
Clearly, James still feels very capable of getting the Lakers up and running, a sentiment echoed by head coach Frank Vogel after the Sacramento game: “I thought he looked great. I was very encouraged with how he looked.”
Unfortunately, James doesn’t have the luxury of time to “shake of the rust”, as they say. The Lakers are currently neck in neck with both Portland and Dallas for a highly coveted sixth seed, whereas if they slip any lower they’ll be forced to compete in a play-in tournament for the NBA playoffs.

]]>Their most recent victory, against the Minnesota Twins, was won in dramatic fashion. By all accounts, they should not have won. But when things are going your way, almost everything goes your way.
The A’s and the Twins had taken things to extra innings, and then Minnesota took a 12-11 lead in the top of the 10th. Fast-forward to the bottom of the 10th, and Ramon Laureano is at the plate with two outs, bases loaded, behind the count at 1-2, and his team down by one.
Laureano then hit a sharp grounder down the third base line. This wasn’t an easy play for Minnesota third baseman Luis Arraez to make, but he was able to scoop up the ball and throw it… wildly off target.
Arraez’s throw went beyond the first baseman’s hands, and Oakland was able to score two runs to win the game, extending their win streak to 11 games.
If this dramatic ending is any indication of how things have been going for the A’s lately, it’ll be quite interesting to see how long this win-streak will go on. In the meantime, we’ll just enjoy the ride with them.

]]>Give the Reds credit for coming out of the gate strong and winning five out of six home games. Currently sitting atop the NL Central Division with a 6-3 record, they’ve earned their spot on this list. But it’ll take work for them to maintain it.
Although they’ve been shaky, the fact of the matter is that the Twins have an excellent team this year. One highlight so far for them this season has been the 40-year-old Nelson Cruz, who’s hit four homers and gotten a hit in every game so far.
The Yankees have also had a slow start, but the sheer talent on their roster is more than enough for them to crack the top three of this list. If Aaron Judge and company are the players we think they are, they’ll rise to the top of the American League soon enough.
We were already excited about the Padres before the season started. Then Joe Musgrove threw the first no-hitter in franchise history, and we couldn’t help but feel giddy about their potential this season.
Far and away the most talented roster in the league, the Dodgers seem well-equipped to defend their title this season. They’re off to an incredible start as well, leading the league with an 8-2 record.

]]>The injury took place after Hawks forward Solomon Hill dove for a ball and ended up landing on James’ foot. The aftermath saw James limping but seemingly okay, since he went on to sink a three-pointer not long after. However, it became soon clear that he needed to leave the game to be evaluated further.
“Nothing angers and saddens me more than not being available to and for my teammates! I’m hurt inside and out right now,” said the Lakers superstar on Twitter. “The road back from recovery begins now. Back soon like I never left.”
The Lakers had already been dealing with another major injury on their squad even before James got hurt. Their other major superstar, center Anthony Davis, hasn’t been able to take the court for months.
Although they’ve struggled as a result, James has been the glue that’s helped them stay afloat. With both James and Davis out, it’ll be that much harder for the Lakers to keep their status in the upper echelon of the Western Conference elite.

]]>Although he’ll only be missing two weeks, this isn’t ideal for those hoping for an Embiid MVP. He’s been having his best season yet, averaging a career-high 29.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.4 blocks per game. On top of all that, his stellar play has helped the Sixers hold the crown for best record in the Eastern Conference.
Indeed, many sports analysts have heavily considered Embiid to be a real candidate for this year’s Most Valuable Player. But with him out for two weeks, his chances may a dip a tad.
On the flip side, this could ultimately be good for the Sixers’ playoff hopes. The regular season is long, and a few weeks off will give Embiid’s legs some much-needed rest to prepare for the postseason.
Philadelphia’s record may waver a tad with him out, but expect them to continue to put up a solid front. Center Dwight Howard will likely replace Embiid in the starting spot, and he’s proven that he’s got what it takes to step up when he’s needed.

]]>The six-time All-Star power forward had been fielding offers from a few different teams, but opted to sign with Brooklyn, where he felt he had the best chance of winning a championship. Griffin reportedly signed a deal for the veteran minimum, meaning that he took a huge pay cut in hopes that he’ll get a ring.
The Nets have been slowly but surely turning themselves into one of the biggest juggernauts we’ve seen in a while. Sure, they’re still a relatively new team, and need to prove themselves in the playoffs. But if you judge it by their accolades on paper, they have one of the most stacked rosters of all time.
Griffin joins Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving in hopes that they’ll manage to band together into something cohesive come playoff time. The crazy thing is, none of these superstars were even on the Nets two years ago. Irving and Durant both signed with them last season, and Harden was acquired via trade a few months ago.
Nothing is guaranteed in the NBA, and they’ll certainly have their work cut out for them. The Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, and some other teams are contenders as well. But look out NBA, because Brooklyn is coming.

]]>With a few weeks of separation since the Super Bowl, a particular NFL legend has weighed in on his opinion about Brady being the GOAT. San Francisco 49er legend Joe Montana spoke on ESPN’s First Take, and here’s what he had to say on the matter:
“I think Tom has taken his place on the top up there a long time ago. He’s had a tremendous career, he’s fun to watch. Everybody always contests over that, but I think if you look at what Tom has been able to accomplish in his time that he’s played, I think it puts him definitely up there at the top of the list.”
This is beautiful praise, especially considering the fact that Montana himself used to be considered a potential candidate for Greatest of All Time as well.
Montana has recognized Brady’s dominance and excellent career: one that includes seven Super Bowl titles, three MVPs, five Super Bowl MVPs, and an all-time high 14 Pro Bowl selections.

]]>The world first received this information when Watt himself posted a picture of himself on Twitter with a Cardinals T-shirt. Not long after, the Cardinals themselves posted a Twitter picture of Watt exiting a plane, with the caption: “Home sweet home. Welcome to the team.”
Watt joining Arizona may be a little bit surprising to some, considering the circumstances of which he decided to leave the Houston Texans.
After ten years as a Texan, it seemed that Watt was leaving because he wanted to play for a real contender. By joining the Cardinals, he doesn’t exactly hit the nail on the head in that regard.
To be fair, Arizona is a solid team, and will certainly improve with Watt on their squad. But there are arguably three better teams in their division alone: the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and San Francisco 49ers.
Nevertheless, Watt seems excited and ready to go, as was clear in his statement upon arrival: “I’m excited to get started. Very excited to get started, get to work, get to know the people of Arizona.”

]]>When stars receive awards, they usually thank their parents, their siblings, their romantic partners, their managers… you get the idea. So when actress Jodie Foster brought Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers into her speech, the crowd was speechless and dumbfounded.
She had just risen to the podium after winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in the film The Mauritanian. In her speech, she outright thanked Aaron Rodgers and didn’t explain why.
However, after doing some proper research, fans eventually started to piece it all together.
In Aaron Rodgers’ MVP acceptance speech earlier this month, he had actually thanked Jodie Foster as well. What made this even weirder was the fact that apparently the two reportedly barely even know each other. For this reason, Foster was shocked when she was thanked by Rodgers. For this reason, she said that if she won the Golden Globe, she would “thank” Rodgers in return.
However, there is another layer to this story that is significant. Foster’s co-star in The Mauritanian is none other than Shailene Woodley, the very same actress that Rodgers recently announced his engagement to. Did Foster give Rodgers some form of advice in relation to his courtship of Woodley, causing Rodgers to thank her in the first place? That much is unclear, but nevertheless, the interaction between the two of them has been funny for the rest of us to observe.
