LeBron James’ MVP campaign may have just run into a ditch. In a game against the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron James suffered a sprained ankle injury, and he’ll be unable to play for the foreseeable future.

The injury took place after Hawks forward Solomon Hill dove for a ball and ended up landing on James’ foot. The aftermath saw James limping but seemingly okay, since he went on to sink a three-pointer not long after. However, it became soon clear that he needed to leave the game to be evaluated further.

“Nothing angers and saddens me more than not being available to and for my teammates! I’m hurt inside and out right now,” said the Lakers superstar on Twitter. “The road back from recovery begins now. Back soon like I never left.”

The Lakers had already been dealing with another major injury on their squad even before James got hurt. Their other major superstar, center Anthony Davis, hasn’t been able to take the court for months.

Although they’ve struggled as a result, James has been the glue that’s helped them stay afloat. With both James and Davis out, it’ll be that much harder for the Lakers to keep their status in the upper echelon of the Western Conference elite.
