The post NBA And NBPA Agree On New Collective Bargaining Agreement appeared first on yoursportspot.com.
]]>The deal, which would effectively enable labor peace for the rest of the decade, is set to be ratified by the league governors and players in the coming weeks.
Concluded early Saturday morning, the new deal comes after both sides decided to opt out of the final year of the previous collective bargaining agreement. NBA commissioner Adam Silver, NBPA executive director Tamika Tremaglio, and negotiators including the NBA’s Dan Rube and the union’s Ron Klempner filled out the last details of the deal on Saturday, sources confirmed.
Some of the key elements of the new deal include the NBA preventing the highest-spending teams from boosting salary and luxury tax spending while simultaneously adding more talent to their rosters. Eligibility for NBA awards will also be set at a minimum of 65 games played in order to accommodate players who miss time due to injuries and other personal reasons.

]]>After Harden made it known that he wanted out, Houston’s front office certainly didn’t buckle to his will—but they started listening to offers all the same.
The most popular potential deal that arose involved the Nets, where it was reported that Harden wanted to join fellow superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, Houston wanted them to cough up more than they were willing to.
However, if a disgruntled Harden is what Houston will get this upcoming season, they may try to shop him elsewhere if the price is right.
As it turns out, a handful of playoff-caliber teams have expressed interest in trading some valuable assets in exchange for the defending scoring champion, reports ESPN.
It is yet to be revealed which teams have come forward, but it still sparks a handful of intrigue—mainly because whichever mystery team lands Harden will certainly see their NBA title stock rising exponentially this season.
The Rockets offered their former MVP guard a substantial two-year contract extension worth $103 million, and he still requested a trade. Clearly, they’d love to keep him, but not if he’s going to be unhappy.
Don’t be surprised if the trade deadline comes with James Harden rocking a jersey that doesn’t read Houston, Brooklyn, or Philadelphia.

]]>Players have been presented with a large and detailed set of rules which they are to follow in order to try to prevent any possible spread of COVID-19 while the season is finished under exceptional circumstances.
DeRozan’s frustration highlights some of the key reasons why some players have a hard time accepting that many activities that they see as a part of normal day-to-day life will not be permitted inside the NBA’s bubble.
When asked about the league’s prohibition of ping pong as a leisure activity, DeRozan responded, “Guys can’t do this, but we can do this and battle over each other? That part just don’t make no sense to me. I got through 10 lines of the handbook and just put it down because it became so frustrating and overwhelming at times, because you just never thought you’d be in a situation of something like this. So it’s hard to process at times.”
DeRozan, who is averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game this season, also expressed concerns about how the toll of confinement will affect the mental health of players who participate in the 2020 season restart.
The former Raptors guard is expected to be a key part of the Spurs’ push for playoff success this season.

]]>Drummond, who was traded from the Detroit Pistons to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a February trade, held an option for one more season at a rate of $28.75 million for next season which he could have declined to go to free agency.
The 26-year-old center, the 9th overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft, has twice been named an All-Star and has won the NBA rebounding title three times, including the past two seasons.
While Drummond found success during his tenure in Detroit, he only has played in the playoffs twice. In both instances, his team was eliminated in the first round. Some might be surprised that he is going to spend another year of his prime with a non-competitive team like Cleveland, but the big payday was enough to get him to say yes to his player option.
Drummond, whose Cavs will not participate in the NBA’s final stage this summer, will instead report to training camp next all looking to put up big numbers and cash in for a big contract in summer 2021.

]]>Beilein and the Cavs both wanted to find a way to get the 67-year-old coach out of the five-year contract he signed last summer, as both the team and the coach saw that he was unable to connect with professional players and succeed as a leader of the team.
The New York native had trouble establishing authority and finding the correct coaching style in the NBA. Coming from college basketball, an environment in which coaches have more control over their players, Beilein reportedly found it difficult to loosen up his authoritative nature while dealing with professional players.
Players have accused Beilein of treating them “like a dictator” and “like children” during his tenure as head coach, according to team sources.
This, in combination with the Cavaliers’ last-place standing in the NBA’s Eastern Conference at 14-40, made the situation in Cleveland unsustainable.
Assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff, formerly the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and one of Beilein’s former assistants, will take over as interim head coach.

]]>During the interview with Marc J. Spears from The Undefeated, the four-time NBA champion announced his plans, saying that he is ready to retire and adding that if he can’t be “a Tony Parker anymore” and can’t play for a championship, he wouldn’t want to play basketball anymore.
Parker was drafted 28th by the San Antonio Spurs in 2001 and won the title with them in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014, before joining the Charlotte Hornets for one season.
From 2015, he held a two-year record as the all-time leading scorer in the EuroBasket. The Undefeated also reported that Parker plans to live in San Antonio but he will regularly travel to France since he is the owner and president of ASVEL, the most successful club in French basketball history.
The 37-year-old player, who has been the team’s vice-president has been stocking ASVEL with some of the most promising young talents from both sexes in France for years now, and he’s really proud of this project.

]]>This score gives the Raptors a huge 1-0 lead in the Finals, and put them in a position to make life tough on the back-to-back champions.
Despite the single-digit margin of victory, Toronto led for nearly the entirety of the game and never had their victory in doubt. The Raptors controlled the game and played like a mature, veteran squad despite their inexperience in the Finals.
Even more amazingly, the Raptors’ win was buoyed by an excellent performance by unheralded center Pascal Siakam. The 25-year-old Cameroonian center recorded a career-high total of 32 points on 14-17 shooting from the field. The Warriors had no answer for Siakam, who finished with 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks, in the paint.
The Raptors were also led by Kawhi Leonard, who scored 23 points and grabbed 8 boards. Marc Gasol also lent a hand with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
Golden State was unavailable to capitalize on a strong performance from Steph Curry, who scored 34 points. The Warriors appeared to miss Kevin Durant’s scoring output sorely.
The Warriors will have to react quickly in Game 2 on Sunday night if they want to avoid falling into a 2-0 series hole.
