]]>The game itself was a nerve-wracking contest that saw both sides having periods of domination on the pitch. PSG especially had good chances via attackers Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, who got their shots stopped by in-form Manuel Neuer. Still, neither team managed to get an edge in the first half, which ended with an unpopular 0-0 result.
The second period also saw back-and-forth game, but this time Bayern managed to capitalize. Midfielder Joshua Kimmich delivered a cross from the top of the box, finding Kingsley Coman on the back post. Coman, who spent his early career with PSG, struck a well-placed header and got the ball into the net to give his team a lead in 59th minute.
PSG tried to get an equalizer, with manager Thomas Tuchel making several attacking-minded substitutions and inserting Julian Draxler and Maxim Choupo-Moting instead of Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria. Still, Bayern took over the control of the match at that point, and limited the opponent’s attack with high pressing and great coverage.
The French powerhouse had one last life-line in the added time thanks to the two-man game by Mbappe and Neymar in the penalty box, but the Brazilian striker sent the ball wide past goal.
Besides lifting their sixth UCL trophy, and first since 2013, Bayern Munich also made the history of the competition by getting all wins in the process. The achievement was especially significant, considering that the team also won domestic Bundesliga and German Cup, rounding up the fabled “treble.”
“I am proud of this team,” said manager Hansi Flick after the game. “When I started in November I read the headlines: ‘No need to fear or respect Bayern Munich anymore’, ‘The team is awful.’ But the development of my team since then has been sensational. We made maximum use of everything. It is not easy to win three titles. It was hard work.”

]]>The reason why the quarterfinals matchups havenβt been finalized is that there are four second-leg games left to be played in round-of-16. However, as these remaining games will be played shortly before the next stage, UEFA decided to go on with the draw as it is.
The first matchup will see the winner of Real Madrid vs. Manchester City (1-2) play against the winner of Juventus vs. Lyon (0-1) while the winners of Napoli vs. Barcelona (1-1) and Chelsea vs. Bayern Munich (0-3) will meet in the second matchup.
The rest of the quarterfinals pairs are made from teams that have secured their place in the next phase of the competition. RB Leipzig will play against Atletico Madrid while Atlanta will face Paris Saint-Germain.
UEFA previously decided that the remaining round-of-16 matches will be played at the previously scheduled locations on August 7th and August 8th. Then, all the teams will head to Lisbon, where they’ll play quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.
The remaining stages of Champions League are scheduled to take place from August 12th to August 19th and will include single-elimination games.

]]>The wave of suspension first hit the United States, with NBA, NHL, and MLS getting suspended on Wednesday. On Thursday, the trend was carried over to Europe, with English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Seria A, and French League 1 being on the list of the leagues that halted their activities. European competitions like UEFA Champions League and Europa League also won’t be played in the foreseeable future.
There is no clear indication when the activities of the leagues might resume, but it is expected that things will go back in normal once coronavirus pandemic gets under control. English Premier League, where Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea’s winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive on coronavirus, announced that the suspension would last at least until April 3rd.
German Bundesliga, on the other hand, intended to continue with competitive matches at first. The league announced on Thursday that the matches would be played as scheduled, but without the audience. However, the decision was changed the next day, and this competition was also suspended.
