The problems keep on mounting for the Chicago Bears. Besides starting the season 0-3, the team now also has to deal with an unhappy player in wideout Chase Claypool.

Claypool has been struggling to make an impact in the first three weeks, making only four catches for 51 yards. However, it appears that the 25-year-old believes he isn’t alone to blame for this.

Speaking with ESPN on Friday, Claypool was asked whether he thinks the Bears have put him in the best position “to showcase the best of what you can do?”

“No,” Claypool responded after thinking about it for a few seconds.

Claypool went on to add that he intends to continue with hard work and get the best out of the situation he is in.

“Sometimes the things around you either elevate you or you have to adapt to allow you to elevate with them,” he explained. “So I’ve just been adapting to the new system and my new role in the system and trying to make the most out of it.”

Claypool already has a fractured relationship with the franchise, having been the subject of criticism by the head coach Matt Eberflus after Week 1. Eberflus criticized Claypool for lack of effort, especially in run blocking department. The player later apologized and might need to do it again after his recent comments if he wants to stay with the organization.

The Chicago Bears announced on Sunday that they have released veteran quarterback PJ Walker. The team made several other roster moves, including waiving offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood.

Walker signed with the Bears on a two-year, $4.15 million deal in March after a promising spell with the Carolina Panthers. He was projected to be the backup for starter Justin Fields, but preseason struggles caused him to slip down the depth chart. The 28-year-old only played in Chicago’s first two preseason games, completing 11 out of 23 attempted passes and throwing for 96 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

With Walker out, the Bears will likely move forward with rookie Tyson Bagent or veteran Nathan Peterman as their backup. Bagent, who was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd, now seems to have the upper hand for the job thanks to good performances in training camp and preseason.

The Bears also opted to move on from Leatherwood, who was the former first-round pick in 2021 by the Las Vegas Raiders. The 24-year-old played four games with Chicago in 2022 but failed to make a case for him to remain on the roster this preseason.

Releasing Walker will cost the Bears around $2 million, while they will also have to pay $4.59 million to Leatherwood, considering it’s unlikely that a team will pick him up off waivers.

The Chicago Bears will trade their number one overall draft pick for the 2023 draft to the Carolina Panthers in what will be a bulk package deal, sources reported to ESPN on Friday. In exchange for the number one draft pick, the Bears will receive four other draft picks and wide receiver DJ Moore.

Chicago will receive Carolina’s first-round selection at No. 9, the number 61 second-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round selection.

Since last week’s scouting combine, an array of NFL teams have expressed an interest in reaching a deal with the Bears to get their hands on this season’s number-one draft pick. While the Houston Texans were vocal about their intent, it was the Panthers who made the first move, reaching out to the Bears during the combine in order to find out about the chances of a trade.

According to one source, the Panthers were eager to secure the prime draft pick after identifying two quarterbacks whom they wanted to get their hands on.

It seems like the Chicago Bears are not interested in being first on the clock in the 2023 NFL Draft. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears are “leaning toward” trading the first overall pick before the draft.

The sources close to the franchise told Schefter that the Bears had been approached by multiple teams in recent weeks, and it is becoming more likely they will trade the pick.

The Bears being willing to part ways with the valuable pick doesn’t come as a surprise. They are likely not interested in taking one of the highly-rated quarterbacks in the 2023 class, believing Justin Fields is the future of their franchise. By moving down, they can get more assets from teams that need a quarterback and still get one of the best prospects on other positions.

Alabama’s signal-caller Bryce Young is considered the favorite to No. 1 if another team acquires the pick. Georgia’s defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Alabama’s edge Will Anderson Jr. are considered the best non-QB players in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The list of quarterback-needy teams that might be interested in making a deal with the Chicago Bears includes the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. While both franchises have high picks, No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, they could be enticed to get the first pick in order to ensure they don’t miss out on their preferred selection.

The Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields picked up a shoulder injury during his side’s 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Fields injured his non-throwing shoulder when he landed out of bounds after being on the receiving end of a hard tackle during the Bears’ last drive of the game. Although slow to get up, he continued playing until he was hit again in the same area.

The team reported that Fields underwent medical evaluation following the game. They revealed that Fields received both an X-ray and IV treatment in the Bears’ locker room.

“We will have an update on Wednesday,” coach Matt Eberflus stated during the post-match conference. “We don’t know what exactly it is, that’s why we are going to take a look at it.”

This is not Fields’ first issue with his left shoulder. The quarterback was also struggling with a shoulder injury last month, however, he clarified that this issue is different from the one he previously experienced.

Although he was not wearing a sling following his injury, Fields remains unsure as to the extent of the problem and whether or not he will have to miss games.

The Chicago Bears are set to trade pass-rusher Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, both teams announced on Wednesday afternoon. Confirmation of the deal is pending on Quinn passing a physical.

“Obviously, part of the tough thing with this job and the position are the tough decisions you have to make,” Bears general manager Ryan Poles said of the trade involving the veteran defensive end. He added that while this is a highly emotional transaction, it makes business sense for the organization as it looks to build for the future.

Quinn, a three-time Pro Bowl defensive end, had been on the field for 67.86% of all defensive snaps since signed for the Bears in 2020, leading all of Chicago’s defensive linesmen.

This marks the third occasion on which Quinn has been traded in his career, having previously played for both the St. Louis Rams and the Miami Dolphins before signing a five-year, $70 million deal with the Bears.

Eagles management has expressed excitement at the pending arrival of Quinn, with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts commenting that Quinn is the addition of yet “another great player” to the team.

There is a strong chance that veteran defensive end Robert Quinn won’t see out the end of the 2022 NFL season with the Chicago Bears. According to multiple reports, the Bears are shopping Quinn around the league and would like to move on from the three-time Pro Bowler before the upcoming NFL trade deadline.

The Bears’ actions are not surprising, considering that the team will endure another disappointing season after going 2-4 in the first six weeks. Their rebuild process is far from over and would have better use of draft picks than a player in the third year of a five-year, $70 million contract.

Quinn was extremely productive last season, having 18.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 16 en route to Second-team All-Pro selection. However, his numbers are quite disappointing in 2022, as he only has one sack in the first six games of the season. This will likely make it a challenging affair for the Bears to actually move him out of Chicago.

Playoff contenders are expected to do their due diligence on Quinn, but the Bears will most likely have to take responsibility for much of his $12.8 million salary. Also, Chicago should be content if they manage to get a late-round pick in exchange.

Robert Quinn previously also played with the LA Rams, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Miami Dolphins. He played 159 NFL games and managed 102.0 sacks and 32 forced fumbles. His resume includes three Pro Bowl nods, two All-Pro selections, and NFL forced fumbles co-leader title in 2014.

The Chicago Bears’ struggling passing game will get a significant boost for the upcoming Thursday Night Football game against the Washington Commanders. The team announced on social media that offseason acquisition, wideout N’Keal Harry, returned to full practice on Wednesday and is expected to make his Bears debut this week.

Harry joined the Bears from the New England Patriots during the summer but hasn’t been able to show his new team what he’s capable of due to an ankle injury. However, now that he’s healthy, the 24-year-old player should become a big part of the team’s offensive plan.

“It’s been hard just sitting here watching, especially once I started going to the games and standing on the sidelines,” Harry told reporters. “It just brings you so much closer to the actual game. So I’m excited. I’m ecstatic.”

The Bears have struggled to get their passing game going in 2022, with their offense only managing to put together 679 yards through the air. Chicago, currently sitting third in NFC North with a 2-3 record, also has only three passing touchdowns.

N’Keal Harry entered the league in 2019 as a first-round pick for the New England Patriots but never managed to justify the high pick spent on him. In his three seasons in New England, Harry caught 57 passes for 598 yards and four TDs. It now remains to be seen whether a change of scenery will allow Harry to finally realize his potential.

The Chicago Bears’ offseason just got a lot more eventful. Their All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith is unhappy with the fact that he still hasn’t received an extension and has publicly asked the team to trade him.

Smith made his trade request via a lengthy statement published on social media. In the statement, the Georgia product says that the new Bears’ front office, helmed by first-year general manager Ryan Poles, doesn’t value him and that the negotiations about his contract so far haven’t been in “good faith.”

“I wanted to be a Bear for my entire career, help this team bring a (Super Bowl) back to our city,” said Smith. “However, they have left me no choice than to request a trade that allows me to play for an organization that truly values what I bring to the table.”

Smith also added that he believes the McCaskey family, who own the Bears, are the only ones who could salvage this situation.

Roquan Smith is currently in the final year of his rookie deal, which will pay him $9.7 million in base salary in 2022. The Bears reportedly made him several offers so far but were not willing to go as far as making him the highest-paid linebacker in football, something that the 25-year-old player is looking to become. Also, the offer featured several de-escalators that are not common in contracts given to star players.

It remains unclear what the Bears’ path forward will be. Poles already told the media that his primary goal is to keep Smith in Chicago. However, considering the Bears’ struggles in recent years, trading him for draft assets that would speed up the team’s rebuild should also seem like a good option.

Smith has 524 tackles, 14.0 sacks, 17 pass deflections, five interceptions, and one defensive touchdown since entering the league as an eighth overall pick in 2018. He made the Second-Team All-Pro twice in his career.

The injuries have forced the Chicago Bears to turn to veteran Nick Foles at the quarterback position. Foles, who hasn’t played at all in 2021, is set to start under center for the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks. The news was confirmed by the Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy during a press conference on Friday.

Chicago lost their starter Justin Fields on Monday after the rookie suffered an ankle injury in a 17-9 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. They also can’t count on Andy Dalton, who was their Week 1 starter, since the veteran is still recovering from a recent groin injury.

The Bears also have rookie QB Ryan Willis on their roster, signing the Virginia Tech product to their practice squad earlier this month. Willis could get the job to back up Foles, but that will only be the case if Fields doesn’t recover enough to fill that role, according to Nagy.

“It would probably be more of an emergency situation, and we just have to see where Justin’s at percentage-wise, where it doesn’t risk his health but he’s able to help us,” said Nagy “If that’s not the best thing to do, trust me, we’re going to go ahead and go with Ryan.”

Nick Foles joined the Bears in 2020 in a trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first season with the franchise, Foles started seven games, throwing for 1,852 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Chicago went 2-5 in that period.
